Probs with new video card.. :(

Can't stand it any longer... I was finally able to play last weekend with shadows turned off... F-bombing awesome!!

So I stopped off at Best Buy and grabbed a brand new card, hoping to fly with shadows this weekend..

It's an Nvidia 560ti..

Brought it home, installed it with latest drivers, annnnd...

I can't play at all, the landscape and cockpit are totally pschychedelic colors...
Sky is fine..
Plane flies without stutters..

Any ideas or similar maladies.. ?

BTW, I love this sim.. It IS gonna rock in about a year..

Sounds weird... How about clearing the cache? That voodoo doc medicine works in some cases here so it's worth a try...

Delete all files in:

C:\Users\<your user name>\Documents\1C SoftClub\il-2 sturmovik cliffs of dover\cache

mazex 04-29-2011 11:35 PM

And while your in that directory - check the conf.ini file so it has this row inside:

Render=D3D10_0

As your 560ti is a Dx10 (11) card and your old card was maybe not?

capt vertigo 04-30-2011 12:32 AM

Tried cache.. no good

Config ini listed Render=R3D9

So I changed to =R3d10_0

And game doesn't load..

Thanx Mazex, this might be the prob, but 'm not sure what to try next..

Uninstall/reinstall the game..?

JG14_Jagr 04-30-2011 12:41 AM

Does everything else run ok (other games I mean?)

capt vertigo 04-30-2011 12:47 AM

Yeah, IL2 1946 runs like a dream..

Portal runs great..

Rest of the game, ie: menus, music, etc runs fine..

But in an actually mission it flashes crazy colors.. especially water and highlights in cockpit..

Really weird...:(

danjama 04-30-2011 12:57 AM

Did you remove the old drivers and install new ones?

Space Communist 04-30-2011 01:37 AM

That's the same video card I have and it runs great. If emptying the cache didn't work I would try re-installing. Also make sure you have up-to-date drivers (270.61)

Macka 04-30-2011 02:05 AM

"So I changed to =R3d10_0"

I assume this was just a typo in this thread. If not it should be Render=D3D10_0. I am also using the NV 270 version drivers as mentioned above, with no major probs. Also the 267 drivers had better shadows for me.

There are many people who are running your card with no problems, so it is something to do with your install or setup.

Make sure you use one of the driver remove programs to delete your old drivers.

Then install one of the new 270 series drivers.

capt vertigo 04-30-2011 03:47 AM

mannn, I have a flickering mess on my hands..

maybe I screwed sumthin up..

All I did was follow instructions in the box...
It said remove old card from pci slot, replace with new card, install drivers..

I didn't uninstall the drivers from my 8800gt first tho, is that a problem u think..?

Heliocon 04-30-2011 04:04 AM

You should of uninstalled the old drivers first and then plugged in the card and installed new drivers. With new drivers switching is not a prob but with older ones it could of messed something up.

That being said if you are getting lines/color flashes and freezes OUTSIDE of the game, its a Vram problem and you will to RMA it.

Take a look at this program:

http://www.guru3d.com/category/driversweeper/

It will remove any drivers you have on your system, then you can re-install new drivers, make sure you use the 270 series from Nvidia.

First all, we dont know what Os are you running

But here is the process to what to do :

- uninstall your nVidia graphics driver, it will command you Restart probably but dont do that, click Restart later and shut down your PC normally.

- Open your PC unplug your card and plug in again, sometimes is not correctly plugged.

- Start your PC and install the last graphics driver package, download the correct driver for your Os and card from here :

http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us

- Restart your PC even if the driver installation dont command you to do that.

Time to start the game :

- Disable Steam Cloud in steam configuration.

- Go to your ... \Documents\1C SoftClub\il-2 sturmovik cliffs of dover and remove the conf.ini to your desktop, to backup it, then go to cache/shaders and delete all files.

- Start the game, it will create a new conf.ini in the process, and new shader files in the first loaded map.

If the problem persist open the new conf.ini to be sure that is using DX10.

Ok. I think I see a problem.
Each time I start up machine the "new hardware found" window opens asking to load software for "Other pci Bridge Device"

Then in says unable to "Install This Hardware"

I have screwed up something.

Btw. I am on Windows XP

You cant use DX10 in XP, so the card is runing in DX9 only.

Dont panic, just do what I wrote step by step.

capt vertigo 04-30-2011 01:13 PM

Followed directions

Uninstalled nvidia drivers via add/remove programs

It asked for restart, I hit cancel, then shut down.

Physically removed card from slot and replaced.

Started machine.

Hardware wizard pops up. Wants to install software for: PCI device

???

Should I just run the driver installer for the 270's I downloaded...?

Ignore the wizard, just close the window.

You should install the downloaded driver now.

Derinahon 04-30-2011 01:31 PM

If none of the above works, just start from scratch. Delete the game directory, backup the 1csoftclub folder or just save your controller config and then do a clean installation of the game.

I had to do this after trying an early beta patch as performance went down the toilet and steams integrity check or deleting cache etc. would not fix it.

Edit: Ooops completely missed the second page, well if it's not a driver issue then try reinstalling the game

capt vertigo 04-30-2011 01:36 PM

Thx Buchon, for your help..

I followed directions but in game is a flickering mess..

Everything else runs fine...

Dunno.

Reinstall game?
Doesn't seem like a likely fix, tho..

Actually, I think I'll try reinstall. I had Tried the beta myself. Could be sum thing quirky I suppose.

The game in DX9 is just a mess.

The game runs fast and looks better in DX10 than in DX9, the shadows that you can see in the videos, and the graphic quality, is done under DX10.

You should put that card under DX10, but is only available in Windows 7, and Vista but avoid it

I suggest you upgrade to Windows 7 64-bits as soon is possible to unleash the power of that card.

capt vertigo 04-30-2011 01:59 PM

Might be time for a new rig then..

I am gonna try a reinstall. DL ing now.

As I stated earlier. I got a taste of the game last weekend with shadows off. It was wicked cool IMO.
Cant wait til it's all up an running.

Buchon 04-30-2011 02:16 PM

I dont think that you need upgrade your system to install Windows 7.

Im running it just now with my dual core and 4 GB of RAM.

This game need DX10, I forced the game to use DX9 in my system, to see if runs fast but contrary as how should be it is slower

I guess the DX9 mode is not optimized.

You will gain FPS just upgrading to Windows 7, and it will looks better.

Watch this thread for example :

capt vertigo 04-30-2011 02:41 PM

We actually have similar specs. I have duo core. 4 gb ram. (I think..)

I'll try Win 7.

Thx brutha

This is your problem. The game runs like cr*p on XP.

You should upgrade to Windows 7 ASAP.

capt vertigo 05-01-2011 04:41 PM

Well I upgraded to Win 7 and the GeForce GTX 560 and I can now enjoy this game with shadows. Thanks for the help everybody!
