Reflected's skins

Hi all,

I'm opening this thread for the skins I'll create in the future. Every time there's a new one available I'll update this first post. All skins were created by me, based on the wonderful template kindly provided by Kristorf.

All comments are welcome!

Thanks Reflected

Very good job

I was going to request Bader's Spit...and you've already done it !!

Just need Bader's 242 Sqd Hurri now...hint..hint..;)

I'm hoping that there will be a central place soon for COD skins... at M4T or Flying Legends?

322Sqn_Dusty 04-17-2011 05:23 PM

Very nice. I like the sqn l insignia under the pit. Keep them coming.

Zorin 04-17-2011 05:42 PM

Very nice work.

Btw, has anyone found the skin files related to the Bf 108?

SoldaatvanOranje 04-17-2011 07:51 PM

Agreed! New for me as well and I've finally got to to smooth flying so now I'd like my own custom 'tigerprint' spit!

reflected 04-23-2011 01:34 PM

Spitfire Mk.Ia X4102 DW-K flown by D.M.C.L Gray, 610 sqn, August 1940

I put them in the paintschemes/skins/spitfire folder of the 1cSoftClub folder.
I didn't know which version of the Spit they were for, so I put them in all three Spitfire folders. I tested them in the FMB and they're perfect. Sorry, I haven't tried them in other mission types yet.

Thanks Reflected, these skins are fantastic. Outstanding work.

LcSummers 04-23-2011 03:32 PM

Awesome skin, thanks reflected :-P

Skins work online?

One comment if I may; I built a model of the DW-K Spitfire (610, County of Chester Squadron) as an Airfix kit as a teenager. I seem to recall that the serial number for DW-K should be N3029....??

Edit: I was right... see here:-

http://www.610squadron.com/about.php?cmd=about_aircraft

There was a later aircraft given DW-K with serial number X4067, but I think that your serial number is incorrect.....

Hi,

Thanks for the info, I made this skin based on this:
http://www.markstyling.com/spitfiresmkl_ll_10.htm

Looks like the profile is wrong then.

I'll correct it to N3029. Who was it flown by?

reflected 04-24-2011 09:40 AM

OK, updated the first post. Based on 617's link I made a 610 sqn skinpact that contains 6 skins, plus there's another new one:

Alan Wright, 92 sqn "QJ-S"

timholt 04-24-2011 12:12 PM

OK I give in, where do I find the "1cSoftClub folder"? It does not come up on my machine.
I put the skins in the CoD paint schemes folder but it just overlays them on top of the default skins??????

617Squadron 04-24-2011 12:28 PM

Some more information and a correction on my part.

It appears that Airfix got it wrong, in that N3029 was originally with 66 Squadron and eventually was attached to No. 61 OTU Squadron. It may have been a simple typo error that it ended up as 610.

DW-K was attached to several airframes as below.

DW-K serial number N3289 and was flown by P/O John Kerr Wilson when 610 Squadron was based at Biggin Hill, and DW-K was shot down and the pilot killed in N3289 on 25.9.1940 over Dunkirk.

DW-K, serial number X4067 piloted by Sgt S.J. Arnfield served at Biggin Hill and destroyed one aircraft before the Battle of Britain and two Bf 109Es on 18th of August 1940. On 24th August 1940, at 08:50hrs, Arnfield was shot down by a Bf109 of JG51 off Ramsgate.

Spitfire DW-K P9495 was written off after damage sustained in a fight with a ME 109 on 12th August 1940. I'm not sure who was the pilot of P9495.

Spitfire X4102 DW-K was flown by P/O D.M. Gray...August 24, 1940. It was shot down on this day and the pilot was wounded.

It gets confusing, as the squadron insignia DW-K was attached to more than one airframe. The ground crews must have been busy with the paint!!

If you look here,

C:\Users\Paul\Documents\1C SoftClub

Select paint schemes\skins

and away you go.
Remember to substitute "Paul" for your "name/whatever in the C:\Users\ ........ \ Documents

What program do you need to modify skins?

Friendly_flyer 04-24-2011 05:42 PM

Any graphic program will do, reallly. Even MS paint. Photoshop is a mainstay for skinners, but there's a free one called GIMP wich has all the relevant functions.

No.

And they don't work offline in quick missions or single missions either.

Honestly I don't know why they even have a selection for them as they cannot be used.

The GUI is a masterpiece of obfuscation, in the classic Russian manner.

Doc_uk 04-24-2011 06:57 PM

I will download your skins, but not until they fix the ability to use skins, which is very annoying
can only use them in fmb

Nice one mate!
I'm afraid you forgot the red-white-blue stripes on the vertical stabilizer. Also, I would darken those roundel blues quite a bit, they look very light IMO. Check out some airshow pictures on google. ;)

On thing is certain, it's a lot easier to make skins than in RoF! :D

Nicely done. Love to know how you are saving your skins. After saving mine as regular jpegs, they won't show up in a mission created in FMB or QMB. Is there a trick to this? It's driving me nuts.

Make sure you are saving them to your documents under the 1c softclub rather than the steam folder and then they should appear in the FMB :)

Its a problem with the game mate, you can change skins in the FMB and 'fly now' to see them and take screens, but after you go on-line you cannot see them for some reason (as far as I am aware that is)

LcSummers 04-26-2011 10:43 AM

Wonderfull skins up here. Hopefully dev team fix it or give us a chanche to use those very nice skins.

Another great skin, thank you.
Now the man in my avatar has his own skin. :)

DoolittleRaider 05-01-2011 07:11 PM

Attn Reflected and Kristorf:

I'm happy to see that COD allows skinners to choose to horizontally align Spitfire ID code letters, or "Step" them.

Reflected's ZP+A, historically correct as aligned
Kristorf's LZ+F, historically correct as non-aligned, i.e. stepped

In every screen capture duing the many months of updates, every Spit shown had 'Stepped' letters, which was the much lesser used code lettering/painting scheme...the majority being horizontally aligned. A number of the Update WIP Spit's were incorrectly lettered.

I don't have COD...Do all the default Spit skins still have the letters 'stepped'??

Also, for those that do not have it, here is a link to the Holy Grail of information on every single Spitfire ever to roll off the production line, in excruciating detail. Every Spit skinner interested in historical accuracy should have this Reference document. http://www.spitfires.ukf.net/home.htm

For example, on this page one can find the details on N3029, which earlier in this thread had incorrectly been identified as having been assigned to 610 Sqdn. http://www.spitfires.ukf.net/p002.htm

...and here one can find the information on X4102, confirming that it had code letters DW+K...and that it was flown only 11 days in BofB before it was damaged by a Bf109 and subsequently crashed ('crash-landed') on 24 August 1940. [Since that was the end of that aircraft, I'd give the German credit for a kill. He probably didn't get it at the time] http://www.spitfires.ukf.net/p014.htm

...and here is a central location for scores of Spit profiles for reference (usually but not always accurate historically) http://wp.scn.ru/en/ww2/f/52/9

Reflected, beautiful skin mate.
Out of interest, weren't the elevator flaps reversed on Malan's skin? So on the night side, the elevator was white, and vice-versa for the other side?

Lovely work gents ;) Can't wait until i have a PC good enough to run this.
