Demo error
I really want to buy Fantasy Wars but I have never been able to get around the following problem.
When starting the demo I receive the following error: INO-CO sadly reports: Program has crashed Call Stack Functions: <address in .exe> I've googled this but have not received any valid information...especially not in English. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Bill |
Hi, I advise you to ask our support team (support at 1cpublishing.eu)
Thank you for your question. |
any updates on this problem? has anyone encountered it with the full version?
i tried with the english and german demo, same error. |
Got the same error in the full release when my mage casts a 'fireball'... seems to only occur when this is cast. Happens intermittently..so not a real problem - given the game autosaves everymove it makes it relatively painless..however inconvenient. It would be good to see this fixed in a patch.
|
my problem is that a can't even start the demo - it crashes after some short loading time.
|
I have the US full version. I have the same exact problem. I can't even get the game up and running. I've searched and can't seem to find an answer anywhere.
|
try looking in the Fantasy Wars folder for these files and see if any of them have a meaningful error message in them:
Generals_Debug.log Generals_Error.log gui_log.txt message.log |
Thanks for the fast reply!!
I'm finding some errors in the Message.log and Generals_Debug.log. Both seem to have the same basic message. I won't include everything, but they seem to follow the same basic pattern: SetF ~[cl_force_eng] [1.000000], variable not found 0.370 0 SetF ~[r_strips] [0.000000], variable not found 0.370 0 SetF ~[r_hwcursor] [1.000000], variable not found 0.370 0 SetF ~[r_debug_query] [0.000000], variable not found 0.370 0 SetF ~[d_prefetch] [0.000000], variable not found 0.370 0 SetF ~[d_prefetchspells] [1.000000], variable not found 0.370 0 SetF ~[d_sleep] [-1.000000], variable not found 0.370 0 SetF ~[d_vmem_impaired] [0.000000], variable not found Not sure if this helps. Thanks again! R |
that seems to be normal b/c i have those too and my game works.
Let's try this. Paste like the last 5 lines from each file. I'll compare them with mine and then I can see what comes next in my file and maybe that will tell us "where" it is crashing. |
Ok, sounds good. Thanks again for the help!

Hmm in both files I have this for devicetype just before your error:
1.520 0 [Render] DeviceType=1; vs=FFFE0200 10.197 0 [Render] HWVP device created So that makes it sound like the problem is with the video card or its installation. Try running DXDIAG (Start -> Run -> DXDIAG ) and click on the Display tab and see if there is anything blank or Disabled or Not Found or Error or something. You might also try re-installing your video card driver (latest version of course). What kind of vid card do youhave? And do you have a dual-core machine? If so, you might try setting the processor affinity to a single cpu for the game. |
My video card is a NVIDIA GeForce Go 7400. I updated the drivers and tried to change the processor affinity. Both failed. I even tried to run it in Windows 2000 compatability mode with no luck.
I did find one thread where someone said they had this problem and contacted "tech support". He/she said they were told to go to Microsoft and "download some program", which they did and it now works. Of course they didn't mention which program it was. This may or may not be the solution, but I don't know what program it is that I should download and try. |
well either get the user to spill the beans or try contacting tech support. good luck.
|
They may be speaking of the C library. go here
http://www.fantasywars-thegame.com/index_uk.html go to bonus and pick demo. Then download the extra file needed if you cannot run demo. |
i totally forgot this thread =)
