Where is Dedicated Server Software/Config?

I have a nice box at a colo and want to toss up a dedi.
I own the 1 copy on Steam (do i need to buy a 2nd copy?)
It runs Windows server and Intel Xeon cores.

Any Help would be great.

ATM you need to buy a second copy and have a second steam account :( but as long as you can remote in it should work for you

Ok so with that how do I start up a server? Is there a server exe? or some simple way to start up a server? So far information is scattered and not very helpful.
I am trying to start a server to support the game a bit, this game is gonna die if we dont get something comparitive to HL's population of servers.

Looking for some sort of utility or something non encryptic.
So far I dont see any devs stepping in and making this happen... I dont get it?!?!?!?
I wont rant, but the devs need to allocate some help on getting some servers up.
No MP = Dead Game

If only we got some bloody feed back about what is being done for MP and when it will be likely to be fixed we'll wait a lot longer. Starting to get bored now.

Yeah the devs are overloaded with optimizing, the community is doing a great job at guessing but Steam seems to be getting in the way with its reporting in crap.
Need to turn of the Steam checks or servers will just keep crashing.

At this point MP is not very much fun.

create a shortcut to launcher.exe and add -server to the command line

that'll launch the server, but you'll need to be connected to steam.

i don't think you need to have a second copy of the game.

I can happily run a dedicated server and client version of the game on the same computer from the same install.

Feedback is in todays update from luthier. Have not you read it?

And btw MP is great as it is now. Just go and play it. I do.

When you say to create a short cut to Launcher.exe. is that the Launcher with the red circle or is it the Launher.exe config?

Also when you say Add"-server" do you mean to rename the "Launcher.exe-server" If not where do I put the command line?

I'm confused?

Thanks for the help.

Will be proper dedicated server documentation out soon.
I will just wait until then.

- I am hoping I can ftp my game folder over to a server and edit some configs and add some .mis files and walla, start as a service and play play play.

Ok got the command prompt to work but I get a error
"SteamGameServer_Init call failed"

Ideas?

Thee_oddball 04-16-2011 10:00 PM

right click steam icon choose Library
right click "il2 Sturmovik clifffs of Dover" (upper left corner of window) choose properties
click "set launch options" type in [-server] no brackets! click ok

launch game from normal shortcut on desktop, a doss window will open
