SYNDICATE server testing

Guys,

The server may be up and down a bit today as we try and figure out keeping it daylight all the time, please be patient.

Blackrat 04-12-2011 01:51 PM

Server should be up, we have changed the time to constant, lemme know if there are any issues or we get a night time flight.

Elixx 04-12-2011 01:53 PM

Hey, that's my job ;)

Now to go try and see if I can join it lol

Elixx 04-12-2011 03:08 PM

I dunno if it is me or the server, but today most of my controls dont seem to work on this server.

I think it's because they have the 2 handed controls on currently (which is buggered) and should be shut off.

I think they working on the realism settings now though :)

Thanks for the server, like the settings, flew a 1hr sortie over france saw no enemy but was good practice, I got hopelessly lost tho . My map reading clearly needs more practice

I had a hard time finding a plane to fly, I kept spawning inside hangars with closed doors. I finally found an airborne Spittie and proceed to patrol over England a bit. I had had enough of that quickly enough and decided to "take the war to the Hun". After a short jaunt across the Channel I started inspecting the airfields for action, and it didn't take long.

Being the sporting type I circled wide around the field to let the two taxing aircraft take off, but of course I ran out of patience again and decided to make a couple of passes on a 109 that had been stationary for some time (I sure hope that wasn't Elixx trying to sort his controls :))

After setting the stationary 109 on fire, I decided it might be a good idea to look around some as I was sure I had seen a 109 preparing for takeoff earlier. Then I saw a twin engine, twin tail aircraft above me (110 or a Do17 I suspect) and began to give chase, setting up to sneak up from underneath.

It was not more than a minute into the chase that my lack of situational awareness was rewarded with tracers flashing past my canopy. I jerked the stick in every possible direction I could think of as fast as I could, and sure enough there was a 109 hot on my tail.

The unfortunate 109 driver had little chance in the ensuing dogfight against a Spitfire down on the deck, but He didn't go down for a lack of trying. On the second burst, something large came off the 109, I realized it was the canopy just in time to twist away from the pilot, streaming his parachute.

I circled around and found the German hanging under his fully deployed canopy, the taste of the adrenaline from the fight still fresh in my mouth. I gave him a wing waggle and turned for England, hoping to find that twin somewhere over the Channel.

Of course I never saw him, because my game crashed and brought me back to 2011. But just for a few moments I was in 1940 fighting for my life with another man fighting for his.
Probably the most immersed I've ever been in a flight sim in the 13 years I've been doing this.

Pretty cool. Thanks for the server, I'll be there regularly.

Elixx 04-12-2011 04:25 PM

would not mind 2 hand setup tbh, as long as it is not bugged :)

whoarmongar 04-12-2011 07:35 PM

On spawning my plane twisted thru 90*, not a major problem except from then on my compass was 90* out, no wonder I got lost. However was great to be able to connect to a server.

Yep great stuff, did a free hunt to England and like Badaim ran out of patience and straffed 2 spits at an airfield, was briefly chased and shot at crossing the english coast but the pursuer broke off (lack of ammo?) then coming up to the French coast spied a Hurri heading home, turned and got on his tail but couldnt catch him :( Landed back at base with a few flak/bullet holes in my a/c, again great stuff.

When replaying track was unable to get outside view even after clking edit view, bug?

ps, how do you rearm in game? allocated a button to reload but that didn'e seem to work?

Thx again

doghous3 04-12-2011 10:08 PM

Re-arm is something I'm looking into atm. I suspect it will have to be scripted but I'll try certain things first.

Sauf 04-12-2011 10:11 PM

Cheers Doghous3, and thx for all your time and effort.

Airfield Lights?

56 would like to try this sever but we are in UK and the server seems to run on GMT(?) so its going to be dark most of our Squad night.

Any chance of adding some Height Lights (under Searchlights) or similar to the ends of the runways?

Hi klem.

The mission should now maintain the same time of day all day long (daylight!). So it should be sunny regardless of whenever you join. Let us know if it does get dark.

Until we can figure out rotations, scripting, etc.etc., still only the 2nd day here, the missions will have a constant time.

Cheers

doghous3 04-13-2011 04:03 PM

I did briefly look into various lights, although they didn't seem to work on first inspection; but not really delved into that yet, so they could work, and probably do.

OK, thanks, I just went in there again for half an hour. I thought it was about 2:05pm to start (BST-3?) and I thought it was about 2:35pm when I left but I maybe wrong.

I used Height Lights on a test mission and the worled ok with two problems

1. You can see them through the instrument panel :)
2. They disappear at a distance, perhaps a few mlies.

I'll post the panel problem in the appropriate thread.

Blackrat 04-14-2011 06:51 AM

Okay, it stayed up a total of 2.5 hours after I went to bed last night

So bear with us, I have thrown up the volcano isles map for now, still full realism, but I just want to see if its something on the server which is unstable or the custom missions.

Also this will give people a chance to actually see other planes and get to grips with the complex eng management. Not a type of map we prefer at Syndicate but hey ho for testing purposes.

Later I hope to have a rotation going which will involve some of the other quake type maps for testing.

Blackrat 04-14-2011 09:04 AM

About the same with that map so back to the battle of Britain map, that's more fun.
