Building myself new rig, who has smooth gameplay?
Hi!
I am in the process of building myself a new rig. My old one is closing in on 5 years. It is a good machine, but it can't be upgraded to the specs needed for CoD. Browsing this forum, I see some has good FPS and little to no stutter on medium level machines, while others report the game unplayable even on high end computers. It seems to me there are some combinations of motherboards, videocards and CPUs that this game simply rub the wrong way. I have no doubt the game will become playable eventually (as it does run under some conditions) and I expect most of the problems to be ironed out in the long run. In the mean time I'd like to swim with the current rather than against it, investing in a computer that works well with the game. So good Gentry, would those of you who have smooth gameplay care to post their machine specs and game settings? |
I have very smooth gameplay with only the patch installed (not the keygety nossao en lowtex stuff) lowest I get is around 20 flying over london.
Everything maxed out on the settings, resolution at 1360 x 768 (highest res my monitor supports) My system is a: i5-2500k overclocked to 4.5 GHZ Radeon HD6970 only overclocked a tiny bit 8 Gig Kingston DDR-3 @ 1600mhz MSI p67a-gd65 b3 Motherboard |

Keep 'em coming! |
Upgraded especially to run this to be honest :P (I´m terrible like that, can´t stand not being able to run something decent, Maddox should get a percentage of Hardware sales for the amount of people they forced to upgrade)
All in all it set me back around 750$ but I´m set for the next few years I hope and I needed to upgrade sooner or later anyway. EDIT: Bang for bucks I think this is one of the better setups you can build. Although I might consider swapping out the HD6970 for a Gefore 580GTX. You wont need a 2600k processor since Hyperthreading isn´t used by any game right now, make sure to get the K version of the 2500 though so you can overclock it in combination with a P67 chipset mobo. HD6970 has plenty of VRAM and power and can also be overclocked fairly easy if needed. |

All people having >20 fps over London are using mediocre resolutions like 720p.
My GTX570 has good fps at that resolution, too. Hurts the eyes on a 24" though. |

System spec win7 32 P8P67 EVO I5 2500k 4 Ghz Nvidia GTX 560 ti 1GB 4GB 1333 kingston Scyte Mugen2 cooler I'm at 1440x900 and have everything except the planes with are as high as I can get them on medium. FPS reported is generaly 60 -->> 80 over land more over water. But It is not lag free everything moves smooth enough but soem times at iregular intervals i get IL2 typ freezes. Not to manny actually it plays like forgotten battles on my rig. Cheers Niels |
Thanks, Tintifaxl!

i7-2500K @4Ghz+
4-8gb RAM gtx570 (too little vram though), 580-1.5 or 3gb(better), ati6950-2gb, 6970-2gb You can mod 6950 bios to get 6970 as far as I know. But ati users have many complaints too. Wait for the next drivers issue to know who gives better support to CoD. Betta drivers from NV work well according to rumors (see performance link in my sig). Even 580 or 6970 give only 40-50 fps, with drops over London at native monitor res. We'll have better cards available by the end of the year I think. |

Runs very well for me since I swapped out the motherboard and processor for what I have now (see my sig)
I'm getting 40 - 50 fps over land (average that is) 60 - 70 fps over sea (again that's average) Had a six on six dogfight last night over the sea..it was pegged on 90fps for most of the session. I run at a modest 1280x720 to suit my projector tho' I also auto tuned the Phenom and it's reporting 3.7Ghz |
Thank you, Lensman, that's just the kind of data I'm after!

60-70fps average  i get 20-30fps over water! & 15-20fps over Land my reolsolution however is 1920x1200.. Model Detail HIGH Visual effects HIGH Dmg decals HIGH Buildings detail MED land detail LOW Forest OFF building amount LOW land shading MED grass ON shadows ON roads ON Now my spec compared to yours PhenomX6 1055t O/C to 3.5 >>>>AMD PHENOM II X6 1090T 3.2GHZ 9MB Cache Black Edition 4 gig crucial Ram >>>>Corsair XMS3 8GB (4x2GB) DDR3 1600MHz ATI 5770 slightly overclocked 1G GPU >>>>NVIDEA GeForce GTX470 Gigabyte Mbo USB 7.1 >>>>ASUS-M4A89GTD-PRO/USB3 Win7 32 bit >>>>OCZ 120GB SSD. Windows 7 64bit So apart from a slightly better CPU which this game doesnt use atm and more RAM again isnt used much and having 64bit os instead of my 32bit there isnt alot in it yet your getting nearly 2.5/3 times the amount of FPS increase.. i just wished we could pinpoint where the problem lies with performance, theres so much of a different variety and contrast |
Hi
