What is a complete systems spec?
 

We are seeing all methods of display for system specs.

It will really help to include a very thorough system spec in your sig for a while as the devs work through performance issues and fixes. It makes it easy for other members to share with you when you need help.

This thread is just for you to share your thoughts on what a competent systems spec should contain, and possible any other information that could be included in a spec that would enable better help suggestions.

Hardware:

- Mainboard
- CPU
- GPU
- RAM

optional:

- HDD (I'd recommend this, due to the use of Steam)
- Soundchip
- Screen

Software:

- OS

optional:

- driver information GPU / Soundchip

I agree with what you say.

We need a way that is simple enough, yet comprehensive enough to include adequate data information that is easily readable.

I checked out the overclocker form as you describe in your attachment.
It appears to me each user fills in the form manually. Then that information is transcribed in the sig. I suspect that will require a custom modification to this forums, and I don't think it will be important enough for the entire site... as it is to us for the cleanup of BOB COD. I do think is an excellent way to deal with system spec display.

The attachment method you used is excellent, but most members won't use it on a consistent basis.

Having the spec in the sig has always been a best simple method of presentation, because it is automatically placed in each user posting.

There maybe features in the vbulletin that would provide a good workaround, which we aren't using.

My system is not the worst, as you can see.

I.e. I have enough frames, but constant stuttering.

The following is a pretty good looking specification, but I it has a certain level of interpretation required. Unless you know all the names and numbers and what they mean it doesn't make a best presentation.

Most of us know what the names and numbers are in this English speaking forum, but many members of this forums doesn't know English as first language.

The CPU listed tells the reader what socket it is. The only thing I think that needs to be included that isn't

CPU
MEMORY (RAM)
MOTHERBOARD
GPU (include xfire/sli on or off if applicable)
HDD/SDD (include pata/sata 1.5/3.0/6.0)
OS (include 32/64bit)

Is the gpu's memory (VRAM).

your signature is usually the place to find system specs in forums of all kinds where it is relative to do so.

Ah a complement and a knock back all in one lol. Overclock.net has it right though, but perhaps it won't be so important here once CoD is meeting performance expectations (optimism!)

I think that is the best format for system spec's so far, its certainly easier to see the information. Maybe we could get some feedback from the Dev's to see what info (if any) would be useful to them.

dont forget how many cores, what speed they are running at and include what service pack and the speed of the memory for both MB and VID card

Spend as much as you can on hardware. Or if its broke, fix it and can't be fixed...get rid of it and replace it.

Building pc's
 

Building or upgrade a pc is always a question of equilibrium between budget and performances. But look first at your budget. Then buy if possible the last material minus one. Let me explain, buy the GeForce 580 because the 590 is the latest and need to be perfected.

But the reality of this is that a game developer have test computers with Low, Mid and High-end CPU (Intel and AMD), GPU (NVIDIA and ATI) RAM of every type and several operating systems to test the code their working with.

Most members on this form have med to high-end gaming systems; I don’t think anything in our computers have anything to do with the poor performance that everyone is experiencing.

If the “the developers” want us to post anything about our systems to help them we need to here from them. What do they need? Everyone would be more than happy help out.

You are correct in your last sentence.

Afterall, when they don't tell us why should be be expected to know what they need to know?

The purpose of the spec is not just for devs, but other members may have answers as well when reviewing your specs.

Do your best, it would be nice if one of the developers would jump on the thread and give us a straight answer.

They may want a CPU-Z worksheet as well, or some other utility results.
So, go as far as you are comfortable.

My spec is pretty watered down, but if I report a good performance at my spec other members with a similar spec might think they need to do some tweaking,etc.

Spend as much as you can stand to spend.

I'm running the medium-high spec below and I have absolutely no problems graphic wise. I have everything on High or very high (i.e. maxed out) and have no stutters or any graphic issues. Dogfighting over london pushes the GFX card to it's limit but it's fluid and playable. I'm only writing this because i'm suprised by all the problems people are having. I have to say though, i'm running it on 1600 x 1200 which is not high by todays standards. This is the max my monitor can go but looks great all the same.

My only grumbles are the basic game play bugs and the lack of a Lancaster Bomber....

I think the only busy thing is our nails (we are bitting them trying to spend the time waiting for Messiahs ehem... Luthiers re-appearance....)
