Defeated!

So much for feeling cocky. The game can definitely get challenging. Got crushed at "Back to Derenhalle" in human campaign. Was playing hard level "iron man" (i.e. I don't get any losses back).
Very happen to be beaten (well not incredibly ;-) ) because I do like a challenge!
Going to give humans a rest now and try one of the other campaigns.
Very glad to see this can get hard.

Yup, same here. I had to restart mission, I don't want to spoil anything to newbie players, but it surely gets tricky. Good ol' spirit of Fantasy General, I can feel it in the air 8) 8)

I've been defeated quite a few times due to commander dying, I wish he would just be "incapacitated for the rest of the mission" like the other heroes.

Keeping Hero ALive

Yeah I've started getting very careful with him and give him a lot of defensive bonuses. In fact emphasising those a bit more for my units in general to survive.
I am finding a prudent advance well supported with archers with no one running ahead is working pretty well.
Bit hazy on when my archers support though. Starting to get impression they don't if they fired that turn. Anyone seen that?
Also countercharge didn't seem to do anything

Olaf 10-07-2007 07:09 PM

IS countercharge is a "power" that has to be activated at the cost of a foregone attack?

Guardian 10-07-2007 10:06 PM

Should be, never tried it though

Countercharge and "return scenario"

Lost again to the return to D. scenario :-( Tough. Though played better. Gradually learning subtleties of game. Just discovered the air units will fight support if a friendly unit under them is attacked.
The countercharge activates at cost of attack that turn but good if you except to be attacked at the end of a move where you could reach anyone.

Is there an online manual available so that I can be prepared when I get the full game?

Evgeny 10-08-2007 08:11 AM

The manual is included in the full version of the game. It's in pdf on the CD. It can't be found online.

There's a paper manual in my version. :)

Evgeny 10-08-2007 09:45 AM

I meant, that it is included in digital version along with the paper one. :)

OMG, is this game HARD or what?!?!?

One screenshot from one of battles from Orc Campaign, very soft spoiler so I'm giving a link. Simply just check the amount of enemies to destroy in front of me (I'm the Orcs, ok?)...

http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/c...8_11-19-22.jpg

 :?

P.S. I've quit the game for a while once I've seen that. Gotta smoke and play some Civ4 to cool myself down. Some nice axe rush maybe... :|

P.P.S. That's EXACTLY kind of difficulty level I've expected. I can already see what I'm doing wrong, in this game order of moving and attacking is essential to win. Nevermind, Civ time... :P

Thank you for your post, hope you will return to FW soon and destroy this horde.

The way i finished this mission - took a really defensive stance with lot's of supporting archers and artillery. All my heavy units in front, some defensive perks given. Concentrated on killing the toughest enemy units first and had a bunch of skirmishers harassing their archers and artillery.

Yeah, after I've left out of shock I've figured it out too. But, You know, I'm like Belkar from Order OF The Stick in this episode - http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0439.html :D So I guess that the real fun just begins :D :D

Trust me, a few missions later in the campaign, this will look like a easy walk to you. But on the bride side - level 10 heroes really kick ass. Especially mages
