It's Out in Australia!!

Walked into my local EB Games on Elizabeth Street, Melbourne this afternoon and saw it just sitting on a shelf.. no new release section, nothing!

http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5227/...60ed11c5_b.jpg

I'm guessing they broke the street date as its supposed to be released on Sat morning!

PeterPanPan 03-28-2011 09:35 AM

The PG sticker made me laugh. "Mild war themes and violence". I should bloody hope so!!

major_setback 03-28-2011 09:36 AM

Did you buy it? It looks like a dummy to me (awaiting the shipment).

It's not the same cover as the ones we've seen released, though someone did post a picture of this cover a few weeks ago.

You are lucky to have a game shop that has heard of the Il2 series at all. The ones near me haven't.

Skoshi Tiger 03-28-2011 09:37 AM

Crikey! I blame my wife for not reading the forum earlier! I spent (wasted!) the last few hours fixing a solenoid on the reticulation! My closest Eb-Games is only 5 minutes away! Now the shops are closed! AHHH!

Still would it activate before the local release date?

Cheers and thanks for the update!

Oh! did you buy it?

vladdo 03-28-2011 09:41 AM

No.. didn't buy it, as I've already bought it from Direct2drive for $40.. (rather than $90!!!)

It is the full retail edition, as EB games don't put a price sticker on the box until its released...

Edit: I doubt you'd be able to activate it anyway... I'd sure be pi$$ed about that!

Pierre@ 03-28-2011 10:51 AM

Poor Australians!...

Sauf 03-28-2011 11:01 AM

yep was posted earlier on Simhq that eb had it on the shelves in Oz, you cannot activate yet though. Which isnt a bad thing, cause then I would have had 4 copies :)

Feathered_IV 03-28-2011 11:13 AM

Bloody Hell! EB Games on Elizabeth St. is only a couple of blocks from my place on Lonsdale... Aargh!

If I might say though, that is the most artless piece of cover illustration I have ever seen. It looks more like an attempt at camouflage

JG52Uther 03-28-2011 11:23 AM

NINETY dollars?? Christ,poor Aussies!

Skoshi Tiger 03-28-2011 11:37 AM

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH HHHHHHHHHHHHH!

I just turned on my phone (it'd run out of batteries this morning) and there were three messages from EB Games in Karrinyup! My Collectors edition was ready to pick up!!!!!!!!

vladdo 03-28-2011 11:38 AM

Yeap.. $90 for a game.. thats about the usual price...

Tho Australia is going through a bit of a revelation in recent times, notably a number of high profit business people are crying poor about the number of people importing from the US/UK.. But then, you'd be an idiot to ever pay AU retail prices anyway..

Yep! As of today $1.00 US = $1.03 AU. The game retails for about $40-50 US so why is EB Games screwing the Aussie flight communiy by charging $90-108 AU? See http://www.ebgames.com.au/search?title=cliffs+of+dover

from Wikipedia

"The name Karrinyup was originally derived from the word Careniup, a Noongar name for a nearby swamp which apparently means "the place where bush kangaroos graze". "

The translation I heard was "Place of Bullrushes"!

Yes it's true! I live in a swamp! Which isn't too bad because a near-by suburb is called Innaloo, which is almost but not as bad as living in "Upper Swan"

Cheers!

tagTaken2 03-28-2011 12:29 PM

Amazing.

I was in CBD all day, and didn't go in to one EB- normally I go in just to get depressed by the shrinking PC section.

Could have had my own Golden Ticket moment :(

When people from there are asked where they live do they reply "Innaloo"?

The actual joke that does the rounds is "Where would you rather live? Innaloo or Up-a Swan?"

cheers!

major_setback 03-28-2011 03:11 PM

I went to two game shops (in Sweden) today. Neither of them had heard of CoD, though one shop found out they would be getting it in on Thursday. I was pretty sure they wouldn't have a clue about it, as with any Flight sim. I was a bit shocked that one would have on the shelf though, and so soon!

I was there out of curiosity.

My game won't be shipped from German Amazon until the week after it is on shelves here :-(

Oldschool61 03-28-2011 03:16 PM

Does the Aussie version have the ability to turn off the stupid epileptic filter??

They prefer not to be called 'stupid epileptics' :-).

Skoshi Tiger 03-29-2011 12:26 AM

Epileptcy Patch on the 30th should fix that according to Luthier

http://forum.1cpublishing.eu/showthread.php?t=19644

Has anyone in picked up their collectors edition yet? Hopefully I'll get off work in about 6 hours and pick it up on the way home.

Will post pictures of the event.

cheers!

I've got mine!

Manual's great, well-written (better than the Spitfire reproduction booklet, filled with typos :), however the tea towel provided is of poor quality, hardly absorbent and bound to fray.

vladdo 03-29-2011 01:39 AM

I was going to buy the Collectors Edition but then thought that the extra $68 was a bit of a rip for a couple of manuals and a tea towel lol

Think i'll use that $68 and buy another game with it :)

dreamofire 03-29-2011 01:51 AM

Gee, look at the price!

Well then we also have the suburb in Western Australia with the tasteful name of Dog Swamp

Good choice.

I only bought a physical copy for sentimental reasons... I still remember walking out of store with hard copy of Il-2, and that was a long time ago.

vladdo 03-29-2011 02:34 AM

Yeah.. I'm the same, I have all boxed copies of IL2/FB/PF/1946 but this time around, couldn't justify the near 3 times the price.. And i'd rather give ubisoft the least amount of money as possible... CE seems a bit of a waste anyway.. Nothing that compelling in it..

I usually avoid the use of internet acronyms. But this time, I truly lol'd.

Cotton 03-29-2011 05:36 AM

Got mine

I am loading the collectors adition now 94% loaded.

drewpee 03-29-2011 05:45 AM

Cotton 03-29-2011 06:26 AM

Product key

Mine accepted the product key to install but it will not activate, guess it will start Thursday.

gonk 03-29-2011 06:54 AM

xnomad 03-29-2011 07:00 AM

Seeing as Steam says April the 1st for us here in Oz; does anyone know if we leave Steam running on Thursday night will it start downloading the game at midnight or does it require user input?

If you leave Steam running and your PC on (I know this is obvious, but you never know) it should begin downloading; however, typically it won't start until 10 am US Pacific time the day of release. I don't know if that is the same in AUS, and I don't know what time that would be over there.

xnomad 03-29-2011 07:18 AM

Hmmm don't know what time Steam would do this as it's not the US release. If it does go by US time then I'm guessing that as we are ahead and it's 1st of April for us so:

US Pacific time Thursday, 31 March 2011 at 10:00:00 would be 4:00 AM Sydney Australia on Friday the 1st of April.

I'll leave it on overnight and see what happens. Either way I've got to go to work on Friday, but I'm hoping it's ready to play when I get home. I also hope my wife's going to the gym after work that day!!! ;)

Skoshi Tiger 03-29-2011 08:51 AM

Anyone else notice on the paper cover of the Australian Collectors edition it says "Manufactured in Australia IL2 Sturmovik: Cliffs of Dover ANZ"

Could explain why we got it early?

Does anyone know when the steam version will let us start downloading?

Damn wife has organised a busy bee at our kids primary school to make a farm garden! There goes my weekend intensive training session!

Cheers!

Screamadelica 03-29-2011 11:05 AM

Must be taking longer to get to the country areas. Still no call from EB. Hopefully will be driving off to pick it up on Friday. And well done everybody on getting UBI to have these CE sets released in Australia. Just shows what can be done.

beazil 03-29-2011 04:50 PM

*sigh* and yet those of us in North America have to wait until April 19th.

I have yet to hear a good explaination as to why. Ah well. Hope you lucky people enjoy! :) and post lots of pics, vids etc. for the rest of us.

Hopefully it will be fixed and worth buying by then.

Rodney 03-30-2011 12:39 AM

Yep it is out in Australia. My order from EB shipped yesterday at 2am and should be at my door any hour now.

I just hope that stereoscopic vision hasn't been stuffed up by this anti-epilepsy thing. I suspect if it can break SLI there's a risk it may stuff up page flipping for stereovision as well. Hope not.

vladdo 03-30-2011 04:50 AM

Apparently you can now activate those retail keys... Dunno if you can actually play it yet however..

FS~Hawks 03-30-2011 08:01 AM

Yep EB games called me today saying it's in.
The only thing is they shut 6 and i did/t get of work till 6 so i have to wait till tomorrow well it has been 6 years just 1 more day.

Meek 03-30-2011 10:49 AM

I'm an Aussie who pre-ordered through Steam, and it still wants me to wait one day and seven hours at this time.

They letting the euros beta test and find bugs so we in USA can have the product the way it was meant to be!! After all we are the biggest market and likely the one that will make or break it.

bf-110 03-30-2011 09:48 PM

Was CoD released worldwide already?

And you damn aussies, games look cheap as hell there.

Here,well...

Rodney 03-31-2011 12:18 AM

Well my copy of IL2 CoD has finally arrived (somewhat later than I expected seeing as EB games sent it - admitedly from a different state - on the 29th) but it's here now.

I haven't opened it yet, but I am somewhat surprised that the box is so big. Its the size of an A4 bit of paper and 1.5" thick. What's more its just shy of a kilo (2.2 lb) in weight.

I wonder whats inside? I was expecting a CD sized box or something but thing is enormous, biggest box I've personally ever seen a computer game delivered in.

I'd take a picture of the box but I lost connection between my camera phone and my computer when I updated from 32 bit Vista to 64 bit Win 7 a while ago.

Its funny I've waited so, so many years for this game to get here, an eternity, but now that its here instead of opening the box up I'm posting about the box on the internet.

Just had to share my joy about the box I've just recieved with others who'd understand.

They must have made a mistake with this release on steam - usually heaps more expensive here in oz!
