After a day of flying IL2/46...
...with my old squad mates, talking about CoD a lot on comms, going over the whole thing with a calm and reasoned process (and a good night's sleep), I've decided this...
1. No matter the current issues, the game will progress. Oleg and his team have always been the masters of optimizing code. Did the ball get dropped on this release? Yeah, but assigning blame on either of the publishers or Maddox Games will get us nowhere. The dev team will fix the current issues. Will it be fixed tomorrow or the next day? Not likely, but they will fix it. 2. After playing this franchise since December of 2001, and most of that time with the guys I'm with now, I cannot imagine not continuing into the next generation and let them have all the fun. 3. As easy as it is to bash UBI and 1C, we must remember that without them putting up the front money for a niche product like CoD, there simply would be no more WW2 flight simulations. Then where would we be? Flying those accursed jets, or the spawn of the devil rotary winged aircraft? I get cold chills at the thought. You are not getting rid of me that easily. See you over the channel sometime in mid April. Peace. |
Reasonable post.
Kudos for that and looking forward to fly with you. |
Hear hear! I'm a little disappointed but of course I'll buy it.

The channel in April it is then:grin:

Good post, yup i think we are all a tad disapointed from what we are seeing, and just hopeful that the dev team can get on top of it quickly! they have always produced a good product and i should imagine that they are all pretty shattered about how this has turned out so far, i feel sorry for them! my main hopes are that 1, they get it working before the main gaming press gets hold of it, and 2, that UBI does not pull the rug from under them. i still have my CE on order, and there is no way that i would consider cancelling, still itching to get it.
people just need a little more faith, and we need a little less negativity and spam from the naysayers. all good things come to those who wait ;) Craig |

Someone reminded me me of how big of a cockup the release of Pacific fighters and 1946 were. In the end it all worked out. Don't wait untill the program is in the bargain bin at BestBuy, the developers need our support now. Even if it's unplayable for the first few months on my current rig, I'm still getting it on release in the US or earlier if I can figure a way out, Just to take pretty screenshots or make some movies. Support the team so the saga can continue. so far I've spend about $200 on the whole il2 series. That's 9 years of sim fun and only god know's how many hours of entertainment. Say 2 hours per day 5 days a week for 9 years. That's 4.27 dollar cent per hour of entertaiment. Very good deal, I think. Even if CoD is a turd at first Oleg's team will work it out. I still give them the bennefit of the doubt and will support them by downloading it from Steam since you need it to play the game anyway.

1. I have it
2. I'm about to scream it's so frickin 'incredible!!! 3. All of the whiners, naysayers and such - I only have one thing to say: You are all going to feel like such idiots - when you actually get the software in your hands. So my advice is to just stop with all this bad stuff. My version is running fine on an ATI 5870, Core 2 Q9650 @ 4.0 with 4 GB RAM.... I'm staying away from the boards for the next two days while I feel like I'm 18 again. Oleg, Ilya - you and your team is as incredible as I always thought. Even though I can't read a lick of Russian - it's all worth it. S! Gunny |
..the 2 of you made me cry :-P with your statements..
TY El Aurens and Gunslinger! You're writings are soo true..very well said! |

Indeed, they will work it out somehow. Hopefully good enough to actually do see you over the channel by mid-april. What plane are you probably going to be flying the most in? Epilepsy filter or not, I'm sure the sim has/will have plenty of bugs and performance issues due to being forced into the market before satisfactory completion. And that most will be fixed. |
I applaud your optimism. But as we are talking down to earth and with a good nights sleep, lets all come to realize that this here is the hardcore group of players. Sure, most will still buy it and all, but there are already a number deeply shaken and full of concern. Now lets widen the focus and think of the new audience that 1C wants to attract, do you honestly believe they will give a **** about the prospect of an improvement in a few month time? Definitely not. Or have you thought about the reviews to come? If a tester will end up flying a Hurricane with no wings in full real settings what do you think he will write about the sim that wants to be the benchmark for the next decade? Nothing positive, that is for sure...

It's not optimism, mate. It's a realization that the vast majority of the naysaying is bull, and what isn't will be fixed. Same story, different day.

My specific memories of the Il-2:1946 release was not being able to get a copy for months, because nobody stocked it. I eventually had to mail order it from some company that listing things in British Pounds. I live in Los Angeles. I have nothing against GB, I found it utterly surreal to, on the US West Coast, to have to mail order a Russian game from Britain. I'm trying to think if there are three points on the globe more remote from each other. |
+1 only way to get it improved is to buy it.

Mid-channel in April? You betcha. I'll be the one doing victory rolls through the wreckage of some flaming Heinkels. ;) (Now to get myself onto a multiplayer server.... never done it before!) Tally-ho, chaps. Bandits inbound, 8 o'clock high. Prepare to intercept! Scott. |

If he can do a steady 60FPS i guess that my i7 920 with Ati 4890 will do 30 or so, but i'll most probably need to upgrade ram from 3 to 6 GB first. My overall assessment is they were forced to push it out the door early and on top of that, they were struck with last minute requirements as well, possibly to the point that they didn't even have time to include a revised readme file on the disc that would point out some performance tweaks. All in all, we're 3 days into the release and people are already working out the rough edges on their own. I guess we'll be fine in a couple of months and a few patches down the road. ;) I too was on the brink of cancelling my pre-order and getting it after a patch or two, but i think things will be fine eventually and i want that collector's edition, so the pre-order stays. |
