Can you imagine if CoD needed a permanent internet connection?

I know that t has been mentioned on threads that this isn't so....but with Ubi looking after publishing you just never know!

What it will mean is that there will be a lot of first time buyers for sure.

Why?

Well look at Splinter Cell Conviction and Silent Hunter 5. Both can be bought for less than £10 in Game as they have crippled them with permanent internet connection.

I may just wait a couple-of-months after release and get a huge bargain along with all those purchasers who wander in and think, "well it's only a tenner!"!

I don't think it will happen, and Steam give you also an offline mode to play. Be sure, this game will be great first of all in the online games (128 players), so.....

tintifaxl 03-15-2011 09:09 AM

I will buy it full price directly after release. Wouldn't want to wait until it hits the bargain bin or Steam Holiday blowout. But that's just me :-P

I'm going to the trouble of having a relative send me a collector's edition from the UK. This is something i do purely for the fact that i consider it good value. It's not cheap by any means as a complete package, it's just that 20 Euros is a tiny price difference between CE and regular edition for the stuff that's in the box. 70 Euros is indeed expensive for a game and 50 Euros that most games go for today (including the regular CoD version) is right about on the limit, it's just that 20 Euros is cheap for the map and manuals, at least in my opinion ;)

It also has the welcome side effect that nobody can question my commitment to team Maddox when i criticize a part of the package that was forced on them by external factors. Whenever someone says "you are not a true fan" i can simply reply "what do you mean, i had my family preorder and send me a CE" :-P

I'm always connected, so I can't imagine. I have no idea, and probably no imagination. Ignorance is bliss. I'm happy

zauii 03-15-2011 03:14 PM

I wouldnt mind tbh, im always connected as well and its not what makes or brakes a game so I couldn't care less.

ROFL well at least you admit ignorance :), seriously thought sh5 was ruined by the connection requirement, which is rather sad to see a genre like that ruined and it's one of the reasons why i have been camping in steam related threads as Ubis mad drm could be the next choice and then we would really see a verbal riot...

Feuerfalke 03-15-2011 03:41 PM

A hypothetical conclusion drawn from a most unlikely hypothesis. Cool.

Let me have one, too:

If the cock crows on the dot, it will rain — or maybe not.

SH5 was firstly destroyed because it was a& crappy game.
DRM comes far second as a reason.

Agreed.

SH4 was a disappointment, SH5 a total failure.
Even if the game was sold for 1 Euro and without a copy protection, it still would have failed the way it did.

Blaiming the copy-protection for this is total nonsense. If you want to make a comparison, take a look at mainstream games. Battlefield, Call of Duty, Crysis, you need an online-account for all of these games and still they sell like warm donuts. And most of the latests shooters also need constant internet-connections or they even don't have a singleplayer mode.

You really want to claim that they just can't be a success, because they use a DRM some people don't like?

Mr_Zooly 03-15-2011 05:21 PM

SH3 with mods has yet to be beaten or even improved upon, both successors didn't come close and the permanent connection wasn't an issue (Assassins Creed 2 required it also but that did quite well) due the fact that I never turn off my router (my XBOX360 nut of a son would probably hire a hitman if I ever turned it off)

JG27_brook 03-15-2011 05:55 PM

Well one reson i never even looked at the game was because of permanent connection ,so it got a foot in the door

mazex 03-15-2011 06:10 PM

It has been confirmed that CoD will NOT require permanent internet connection... So?

Good idea we'll all save money and never have to buy another addon to the IL-2 series , as we will have effectively put Maddox games out of business.

Jaws2002 03-16-2011 12:27 AM

Do you mean I'll have to be connected to that scary evil thing called the "internet".:o

oh the horror.

Tacoma74 03-16-2011 12:42 AM

Surely an entertaining bunch you are! Everyday seems to bring the same silly pointless threads. Not saying all of them are, but I think you could all agree that the 1c forums get their fair share of them. I mean c'mon we already know the answer to this question: There will be no constant internet connection required! Simple as that. It has been officially announced.

Some of us (certainly we all know a few of them) need to step away from the computer for awhile and take up a different hobby for awhile.

That was technique I used on MSFT CFS3 when it was first released. Everyone was anxious to get a copy. What a bomb!

I decided to not buy at first. I bought it at a second hand book store for $8 two weeks after it was released.

Even at $8 it was a worthless. :-P

When you started it up there was this virtual pilot hanging around the garbage cans... That should have told everyone a great experience was at hand. LOL

As I recall MysticPuma you were around doing CFS2 yourself.

Doesn't bother me, my internet is always on anyway.

I played SH5...

I must be the odd one out because I actually enjoyed it...

Once I was able to get it running without CTD all the time, dam VC++ Runtime bug thingy

UBI support was actually helpful...

OMG ... somebody stop me, I said something nice about UBI ... where's my sanity pills?

Maybe, but a compulsory internet connection means depending on ubi servers, wich are not known for their reliability really.

Mysticpuma 03-16-2011 02:37 PM

I sometimes have too much time on my hands.....I have a permanent connection, I'm not worried at-all and will be getting it on Day 1. I look forward to finding out what features are going to be in the game after I have bought it as I don't want the Friday updates to spoil my surprise by letting me know......fortunately after viewing them, that hasn't happened yet!

:rolleyes::grin:

LOL not even sure they are read by 'officials' anymore anyhow. I've been asking about sound since before christmas and had no response, really frustrating tbh, especailly as all the videos contain music to cover up the sound :(

JG53Frankyboy 03-16-2011 03:22 PM

i woulb NOT like if CoD would need an internet connection every time as soon you start the game. Because in the time of beeing heavy involved in making an IL2 COOP onlinewar i often build the missions on a additional Laptops/notebooks without having a internet connection.

I guess, i will do missionbuilding on these additional 'PCs' also in CoD (as on the past with the lowest possible settings , looking rather weird :D )

at least 20% of my time i used IL2 was in the full mission builder . i enjoyed it very much !! :)
