You are Empty
Another 1C game is You are Empty. This horror FPS caused many cries of encouragement from the side of the leading game portals. There are some examples:
The game makes for a potentially interesting mix of horror and action (Gamespot.com)...first-rate graphics engine (GameDaily.com)...the animated scenes are fantastic...You Are Empty should attract plenty of FPS fans looking for another title to add to their collection (Gamezone.com). There you can find the full versions of the reviews: http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/yo...;picks;title;1 http://pc.gamezone.com/gzreviews/p23908_02.htm Check out some screenshots from the game: http://www.1cpublishing.eu/game/you-are-empty/gallery |
I played this game to the end when it came out. It's actually very nice, the grim atmosphere is the best feature. The story is quite unique as well, the ending is a bit sad but also heroic.
The graphics fit well within the scary atmosphere, sounds are great and the gameplay is the kind of what one would expect from an FPS. It has its small flaws here and there but the game is enjoyable nevertheless. |
This is a good game,I finished it some time ago and the cutscenes were quite artsy, but still were nice.:)
One thing that made me laugh(in a good way) was those giant chickens .I do wonder what the devs were smoking when they came up with the idea. I would have loved to have more dialogues, but it was FPS game after all so I can't expect too much story. |
Where can i get the euro version of this game? It's so hard to find. I found only 3 sellers selling the asian version so far.
|
Hello. The game awaits over at Gamers Gate.www.gamersgate.com.Sweet linky: http://www.gamersgate.com/index.php?...mart&Itemid=14
You're welcome. Menicus. P.S. I got boxed version of mine at Greek shop of FNAC,could not trace it in their website for you though. |
I have a question to Evgeny. I would like to buy this game. It appears that there is a Russian version and English version. The English version was shipped to EU (and Asia ?) in the ned 2006. In the end 2007, the English version was released in the US market.
The question is: What are the differences between these versions ? Is the content the same for the Russian-speaking and the English speaking game (which one is better to play) ? Is the latest US English version any different from the EU version ? (E.g. does it contain the 1.2 + sound patches ? Different game content ?) Here is why I am asking. I could buy this game from several sources -- on-line European, Russian market, on-line Asian, and here is the US market. |
Ok, so here is what I have found out. The English version already contains the 1.1 and 1.2 patches which were required for the Russian version. In addition, one can apply a sound patch on either version.
I have ordered the game at play-asia.com. It is an "Asian" version which comes in English (and English manual, as fa as I understood). I am yet to see if the game can be switched between the English and Russian language. I have paid US$21 including postage. As I said the game have not arrived yet. I wonedr whom I should approach (and annoy the hell out of them) if I discover some problems with the game (with the software and not DVD itself). |
If you have any problems you should write to our support team (support at 1cpublishing.eu) and they gonna help you. But I hope you won't face any problems with the game.;)

I already made a posting at another forum, where I demonstrated someone's screenshot with proper textures. After that, I showed my screenshot of the same scene with the corrupted textures. http://www.kamrad.ru/showthread.php?...0&pagenumber=9 I wonder if I should install the older driver (how old ?), or the support staff can offer a solution. |
I'd advise you to write to the support team. They will help you, I guess.

Hi Evgeny,
Perhaps that's what I will do; I'll write to the support at 1C. However, I've heard many horror stories about the quality of support at the Russian organisations. Could you please tell me how many people they typically have on support team, what is their level of expertise, and what is the typical time of reply to the support query. This will enable me to estimate the quality and promptness of their response. Thanks. Regards, Valerian |
The quality of our support team is very high, i think it'd be better to write to them and check their work yourself, and i can say that there have been no complaints by now.

The support person agreed with my supposition that this could be the driver problem. He said he would pass my letter onto the developers who might release a patch. I was not happy with that answer, and I installed the old driver (94.24 Forceware, July 2007). The problem was fixed, that is the textures appeared correctly ! I asked another question (why I cannot install the sound patch which I downloaded from the English version of the youareempty.com website). He told me that the English version of the game had the sound problem fixed, so that no sound patch was necessary. I do not think so... the sound patch from the English website has a different filename than the patch from the Russian website. I understand that the Russian sound patch has an additional sound content, and the English sound patch just fixes some hickups. Oh well... About the game. Actually, I was pleased with the game. I was after an atmospheric shooter game (such as Bioshock), and this was such a game. I got an immersion into the world, and I played it for few hours straight. (I could not play my favourite Half-Life 2 for more than half an hour at once.) I could live with the dated design of some features (such as appearance of the enemies). So, I am happy that I bought this game. |
Greetings to all You Are Empty-fans!
I was about to write an e-mail to Digital Spray when I saw that the site is currently down, as well as the You Are Empty official homepage. I was playin' this game for quite a few months now. I even wrote a review about the game at ign.com, because everyone was pulling this game down. It's NOT a bad game! If you want to see EXTREMELY bad FPS games, check out Heat, Patriots: a Nation under fire, Power of Destruction, Metal, Heat of war etc. etc. There are lots of videos about these extremely horrible games at YouTube, a good friend of mine made'em (too bad he is also Hungarian, like me). So! Just because some sucklings didn't like this game, I REALLY enjoyed it! It's still one of my favourite games, and I still play it. I liked it sooo much I was the one who wrote the Walkthrough/FAQ for the game, which you may find at several locations of the Internet (primarily IGN, because I didn't need to register to submit a FAQ). Great game, there'z no deny in that, but the sounds (and some songs) were horrible. Sorry for this, but I just couldn't stop myself to create an unofficial sound correction pack for this game. I had lots of saved sound effects, and I also own extremely good songs (Heavy Troopers is my favourite and Tristania), so I took the liberty to create an unofficial sound correction pack to upgrade the lousy sound effects, and the bad musics (although there are some really nice tunes, like Totalitarianism Song). My newest idea is to improve this sound correction pack with some disturbing horrormovie music files, if somebody wouldn't like the songs I put in the game. What other flukes and bugs this game has? Let's see... - You can't sprint or run. Serious bug. - Too much Medkits! - Invisible walls. This is what I hate the most. Not just in You Are Empty, but almost every FPS. "We don't want you to climb that wall and that object, and that and that etc. because we'd need to design and draw extra textures and sprites, and we'd need to create more corridors, rooms, even secret places, so we put an invisible wall there." This is SO annoying, and in this game, there are lots of invisible walls, your movement is really restricted. Serious bug. - The levels are very linear. There are no side branches, dead ends, secret areas etc. You have been provided with the illusion that you can go almost everywhere, but you'll realize it's pure illusion. Many FPS games suffer from this disease: linear levels. Compare it with the good old Wolfenstein 3D or Doom levels! This game also has this bug, although there are SOME secret areas hidden in the game. If you spy carefully, you can locate them. - Flames don't really hurt you most of the time. - Your character cannot tolerate falling. If you fall from bigger heights than 1 metre, you die. Serious bug. - That ballerina is a total joke. Take a look at his head when he dies. Yuck! - The farmer guy in Kolhoz has extremely idiot speech. - The chairman in City Council has distorted voice (this has been corrected in my unofficial sound pack). - The bodies of the killed enemies are often stuck into the wall or to the ground, and struggle there. It's funny nevertheless, but really disturbing. - The Electric gun is a pile of poo. Useless. - Try shooting the lamps. You get funny results. - Some doors magically close behind you. Many of the doors cannot be opened. - Ladder climbing is a little bit hard. Always save before climbing downwards. - The metro left the platform without its doors once. Of course I couldn't complete the level. - The dropped weapons often stick to the ground in weird positions. - No boss enemies. - At the end of the game, two options are offered for you to choose. But no matter what you do, you can choose only the second one. If these minor little bugs could be corrected, it would be a perfect game! Will there be a sequel made, or a second part? I would be most happy! |
Unfortunately the team that was developing the game broke up and I guess there will be no expansion or sequel to this one. At least I haven't heard about it.
|
Oh...I see. At least they could release a map editor or something. I really liked the ending of this game with the two possible outcomes, and I thought they left out the first selection because they're making a second part which would tell you what would have happen if you stay in that world.
Another interesting thing: When you're in the Tower, at the very last enemy fights (at that giant cube), if you peek out of the windows, you see ANOTHER Tower far in the distance! There are two Towers? |
This is a great game. It's too bad the developers are no longer together.

Sound Problems - English Version
I've emailed tech support on this but wanted to post here also to try and maximize the help I can get on this game.
If the postings I've seen here indicate that sound problems have been resolved in the English version - then they are sadly mistaken. I installed the game for the first time today and I am having huge issues with sound. I get sound OK when I start a new game and it works thru the FMV opening and partially into the game. But eventually the sound goes away and is replaced by an extremely annoying buzzing sound. The sound patch on the website will not install and I only get a unreadable message when I try and run it. I downloaded the patch from two different locations and both give the same result. I also ran DX Diag and had no sound/driver issues there. I did have an issue with checkered textures but that problem was cured by an install of the latest nVidia patch and a reboot. Regards, Glenn |

I ran the game and got the sound issue. Quit the game and started DXDIAG.EXE. I went to the SOUND tab and did the sound test with FULL ACCELERATION set. I found there was an issue when the 8bit mono 22kHz sound was played thru a HARDWARE BUFFER. When I adjusted the acceleration down to BASIC ACCELERATION that the sound problem in the game completely went away. Regards, Glenn |
i got it to work under win 7 with newer videocard driver!
hi all.
a shockingly surprisingly way I got YOU ARE EMPTY to load, running under windows 7 dual core with a ATI card with a "newer driver"! yes, I was one of those who could not get this game to load beyond the opening movie, I have read that it takes an older graphics driver and such, to run this game. well here is what I did. do not install the game from the autorun! bring up windows explorer to find the cd/DVD drive and then open up the files so that the contents of the game disk are listed. then under setup.exe, right click and find the "compatibility mode". set this mode for "windows xp service pack 3" and "disable visual themes" "disable desktop composition". --in other words, actually install this game under win xp compatibility. then have the install place a shortcut on the desktop and then check to see if this shortcut has the same compatibility mode set for it. then play. I hope this helps. freestone |
unseen models
I am a fan of this game as well! :)
Even for non-fans, the reviews of this game are way too negative. But hey, what can you expect from Gamespot et al. As many of you know, the butcher didn't make it in the final game: http://www.devisraad.com/YaE/butcher.jpg However looking in the gameres directory, one can still find the files for this model. Has anyone found a way to check out this foe ingame? The .PAK files can be opened and their content extracted with a zip application, but I can't seem to modify these .PAK files with success! |

You Are Empty is a first-person shooter video game based in a fictionalized postwar Soviet Union. The game begins with the protagonist waking up in a ruined hospital, and it soon becomes clear that the populace has been afflicted by mutation and madness. He then must battle to stay alive and unravel the mystery. At E3 2006 the developers of You Are Empty gave GameSpot a private screening of the game. GameSpot expressed interest in the physics engine, saying that it might "have some unexpected consequences".[1] You Are Empty was released in North America on October 16, 2007. |
Hello people, I just wanted to stop by and say I absolutely am in love with this game!
However, its not without faults. Fortunately, the game appears quite mod-able and I have fixed most of the faults I seen with it myself. :P But first, the good aspects of it: Quote:

Also, I do have a few technical problems. The post processing (I think specifically the motion blur) causes my screen to flash a solid color, rendering me momentarily blind. I can work around this somewhat by disabling a property in the player class code, but that only stops the damage effects. I would like to find a real fix to this though. I must contact support some time. And secondly, I see there is a lot of great music in the game files, yet I am not hearing much music at all in the game. Every once in a while on specific levels I will hear some, but not often. Is this just me? And does anyone know if there is a level editor out there for this game? I would like to manually add more enemies and ammo and stuff. |
