Realistic.....Trouble landing a 109 !
Guy's I need your help.......
In realistic on training mode, a long lazy straight approach gets me on the deck ok.......BUT ... In something like CTA...a wing over, steep approach drop onto airfield will more often that end up in a crash or speed way to fast ! This is what i find :- Thottle back to 20-25% Flare as much as possible before touch down. As speed drops the control's become over responsive and hard to settle Land to hard and wipe out ! OR touchdown ok but..... Speed way to fast and cant stop in time (except Manston) Go around again but I've let the Team down ! Its getting frustrating !!! What's the trick Superfly Guy's ? Ps.....I know there are lots of Ac better for landing but that Yellow Nosed Hornet I would like to Master  |

In the dive, I tend to drop the gear and chop all throttle, I also don't dive over the runway - you need to give yourself space to pull out and get on the right bearing. If still too fast on the ground then try using the rudder to wave along the runway. make sure the throttle is all the way back. if your using an Av8r stick I believe that there are brake problems, on the pad i think you need to hold the throttle back for the brakes, the same for the T.Master Hotas too. Feel free to ask questions! Edit: do you use PSN by the way? |
On realistic I line up then hold full brake and ease it down it takes practice especially with planes like 109's
|
Yeah thats the problem with landing on Realistic. Because you have no landing flaps like in sim (real life 109 has leading edge slats aswell) you are forced to land at a much higher speed than the plane was built for to avoid stalling, and you get none of the flap's drag to help slow you down either, you need a much longer run up to the runway or you need to use some agressive rudder to create extra drag.
I would say practice landing the 109 on sim because I find its much easier. The 109 doesn't have the horrible 30mph tip over on sim. |
it depends on the airfield a lot of times. the shorter ones in a fast ac like a 109 or a spit you will be hard pressed to pull that off close to the strip and get stopped. try a 153 first and then move up to other ac.
but here are a few things i do to air to drop speed. after rolling and beginning the dive i drop gear, dump the throttle....fire my guns if i need to shave some speed. most of all the CTA i have done have been in sim and there are a lot of planes in that mode that will let you slip them once you are on final. nose down slightly, full ( or almost full ) opposite rudder and aileron. i never tried to slip one in realistic so dont know if it works. once on the ground i hold the stick all the way back until i get around the high 30s...then i let it go slack. seems a bunch of planes give you a nose dip @ 30mph...i get ready for that and pull the stick gently when it does. since i dont have brakes...i shoot my guns and wag rudder to drop speed. |
hmmmmmm give you're self a decent run into start, touchdownas early as possible, use Manston air field massssses of room. As mentioned use other aircraft, the Blenheim is decent to land.
as you're playing realistic what veiw are you playing, 3rd person i.e outside???? this can help as you can gauge how close to the ground you are, if cockpit try 3rd person the move back to the cockpit once you're confident. the spit is a tricky aircraft to land so you can try that aswell once mastered you will land B17's onto hawinch no probs lollol also, defo hammer the guns on as you get it on the deck. hope this helps :) if you're struggeling add me if you're on the PSN, my user name is the same as here, can arrange a free flight with you and see what we can do :) |
Edit: do you use PSN by the way?[/QUOTE]
Yes PSN is the sysyem i use.....as forum name Guys thanks for your help , deffo works better with those tips , I have had a few "nose overs" now.....never knew that could happen ! Tried on training a combo of all your pointers and even had 4 go arounds without crashing  I generally use 3rd person view.... need to build up the confidence to use cockpit.....shame that the 109 does not have one :( Thanks for your help in my journey from an A**se to an Ace See you on the Deck......one peace i hope ! |
good go WB,
each plane is a little different. some you can chop the throttle on final...some you have to goose the gas a bit. in cockpit or VC when you get close to the ground ... raise your nose slightly above the horizon. that will give you a nice flare and set you down like a landing on a pillow. IF you bounce...goose the gas just a bit and re-establish your glideslope..then chop it again and land ...if you have the room. if not kick it in the ass and go around. just takes practice. would be interesting if the game could factor in a cross wind  |
Update
Sunday 26th June......CTA Realistic......landing in a Bf109-G6.......fully sideways on max right rudder....keeping the opposite wing from touching down.......flare.....flare....."Touchdown"........ ..
Perrr....ting......little logo TV screen......Trophy 50 succesfull landings in Realistic..........:) Thanks for your help Guy's....that Trophy made me smile :-P Now does..... 350+ ripped off under carriage legs....400+ crashes get me another Trophy !!!! P.S....the easy one of the lot to land for me......La5 / La7.....real nice manners ;) |
Congratulations! :D
Personally, I think that the La's, Fw's, 262 and Hurricane all land well. But then I've had a fair few hours trying to land these in really odd places. Or using the 262 as a tank on the ground, shooting at the other 262's on the ground. Such fun! |

Some where in Germany at Flugzeugbau AG , there are a whole bunch of brassed off AC fitter currently putting all the legs back on that i have broken off.....that's before I nosed over which is another Fw190 trick !! How many CTA games have I flown around with one under cart leg.....Ooooh lost count. Fw190 reminds me of the wife....beautifull to look at:)........but quick to roll over:(..........slow when you want her to turn around:rolleyes:..........and deadly when she has me in her sight's.....:-P:-P:-P |

Thanks, I should really do a few videos. I can land pretty much anything in awkward places. I'll prove it by landing every aircraft on the pier thing at dover! How this will ever help in CTA - no one knows! :P |
congrats! if you can land one you can land them all. each one has its own quirks though. some you will land with the throttle completely chopped...some you need to goose it a little...etc. just need to practice in them. try sim like pope said it is a little easier because you can dump flaps. main thing is just dont flare too soon. set up your glide plane and let the plane ease onto the ground....
|
Thanks Fellow Flyers...bobbysocks & P51.........:)
Challange Time Mr P51......can you take a Po-2 and land it on the top of Flakturm I - Berliner Zoo, Berlin..( Think that what its called)...in the woods near the Brandenburg Gate........? .....got it on top once..... then rolled off the edge.....!!! Over to you .......:-P |

i dont think there are planes that dont have flaps....maybe the Po2..i have only flown it once a long, long time ago. how the aviator set up on PS3 is configures i do not know. you may have to do custom set up....the PS boys will be more of a help with that part of your question..

All of the crates have flaps, bar the I-16 and 156. The 47/51 deffinately have flaps in the game. I use the PS3 Thrustmaster Hotas on "thrustmaster 1" so I can't help further! Sorry :( |

Now I just come in at or below 200mph....give it full left rudder...a little right aileron.....kinda crab's with the nose up......when Gustaf is at 150mph.....let go and let him settle down.......Touchdown !!! ......then look up and see the Realistic Roughneck's I fly with rinse me with thier cannons !!!! Thanks Again for the report :) . |
http://forum.1cpublishing.eu/showthread.php?t=18107 dunno if you have read this before but its a landing turn i created. if done properly everyone will over fly you and you land, they over fly again. max settings. done in the g-10, i reckon it flies better. i can't fly well anymore, im like the biggest noob now after swine flu and a heart attack that caused hypoxia [lack of oxygen to the noggin] and bad hand eye coodination. we have the metric system so i dont know the imperial system, you`ll have to convert the numbers, hope ive been some help, need more 109 pilots

If I fly them, I tend to use the 109-G6, 109-K4 or the 109-G10 Personally though, I prefer the underdogs in this game, like the Fw 190's (love them!!!) or the Ta-152 (Favorite out of all the planes!) Also, I find that the Fw 190s are not hard to land, just got to show them a little love. |

On Sim and real.
I find on sim all I need to do is every time the tail starts to pick up, is pull back on the left joystick and keep doing this motion until it stops. |

Ps......did we meet in Sim recently.....3v3 .....? Think you had a "disconnect from game error"....other guy quit....left me against Yuma and 1 other with a guy called.... StokenWhite....?? or something.....(Japanese ?) White had 20+ kills already.....but with 3v1 still went on and on relentlessly taking me out without honour or consideration for my obvious lack of expereince........sheeesh....talk about Rude !! . |

Hi Cryptic............:) Spitfire's are very swish.....pure poetry....but....... Emil....Friedrich.......Gustav......And....Kurfür st do it for me..... G6......White9....best of the bunch........but Fw190's most fun to fly on full settings and get right.....only way to make em turn :-P Land a Fw190 under attack CTA.....blaaa......love and kisses.....she bite's back hard if you dont give her respect...!!! . |
i like the 190 much better in sim. seems to handle decent enough for me.... as for the 109s i love the G-6 but really love the handling of the G-2 and F....as a matter of fact starting to really appreciate the earlier schmitts.

Why oh why....:(:(..... did Anton not develope the game to give us cockpits for the Bf109's and Fw190's.....???......Enjoy these a lot.....for to play sim with that whoozy goldfish bowl zero Ac reference is not my bag.....:(:(:( And land in that mode........Phewww.......MegaGods if you can ! Birds of Steel.........Pleeeeze grant me my wish...... . |
the reason as i understand it was...in the beginning we werent supposed to be able to fly the LW ac...that was an after thought and as thus the cockpit view was not developed. i can pretty much guarentee you will see that in BoS.

to wildboar44.. i dont recall it but it sounds about right.. some people are merciless especially when they outnumber you, they do it out of fear? i like to think so. good to see someone who likes to fly the 109's too. i only know the g-10 well, is the g-2 just as good with its handling?
to cryptic phantom.. im on PS3 sorry, its mostly spits i see. havent seen anyone in a 190 or 152 the last few days. this is my 2nd ps3 so i had to restart, i finished my collection at the g-10, so i dont have a wide range. you really like the 152 eh? its a slender looking thing, the close cannon arrangement makes it ideal against almost anything in sim. |
hey bez.....there might be a file of all the ac floating around on this forum somewhere. i understand it would save you from having to replay everything from the get go. ask the ps3 guys there where to find it.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...Wulf_Ta152.jpg 1st off she is a B-17 Killer, fast, sleek, and a nice rate of fire. If I can get her into a joust, I am normally fine. also she has one 30 mm, MK 108 Motorkanone cannon centered within the prop hub and two 20 mm MG 151/20 cannons located in the wings.:-P When I fire her guns while using WEP, she tends to stabilize. Sure she has her cons, but I can forgive her. :o Side Note: She is a "Focke Wulf Ta-152". The Ta 152 was the continual development of the Fw 190, but the prefix was changed to "Ta" to recognize Kurt Tank who headed the design team. |

mataliebres, i usually play from 11am to 3am, not all that time but when theres ppl on and some good games happening, i`d love to get the dora for a game of sim but havent unlocked it yet, im up for it when i do :)
bobbysox ill get back to ya on the file but i dunno where to begin. cryptic phantom.. gotta love the 152 ill fly it a bit when i get my stuff together, ive never really spent much time with it. the size and cannons give a lot of confidence. this may sound silly but i made a model of one once, along with an me163, held then out the car window at 1*0kmh and the 152 wings were moving up and down by 2cm but i nearly lost the 163 as it 'bit in' and tore at my arm. |
