"Battle over Britain Redux" released

Wow it's been over seven years since we released the Battle over Britain campaign!

So I've reworked it to make use of Cannon's Channel map. :)

Quote:

This was the first RAF campaign for Forgotten Battles originally released in January 2004.

Now converted to play out on Cannon's Channel Map and containing various improvements and bug-fixes over the original

Starting out as a rookie pilot taking control of the Hawker Hurricane for the first time you will undergo some basic training flights before becoming one of 'The Few'

** 26 missions following No 85 Squadron for the year between August 1939 and August 1940 ***

(the original campaign that used the Finland map to approximate the Channel had over 50 missions)

Hmmm I don't know what's stopping you from successfully downloading.

I've just tested the download and it worked for me.

There have been over 50 downloads since I uploaded it a couple of hours ago and I've not yet seen anybody else report a problem.

you have to register at m4t I guess.

Downloading now without hesitation. I remember the day your campaign was first released and how Netwings.org crashed under the demand. I had a 56k dailup back then, and it took me more than four hours to get it. Can't wait to give this one a go.

That is a great campaign, but it's not one of mine. ;)

Against Overwhelming odds:

An historic campaign for the Me163B 'Komet'.
I have endeavoured to make this campaign as historically correct as I could. The campaign begins in 1944 with training at EKdo16, then the successful pilot goes on to 1./JG400, the only Me163 Staffel to see regular and major combat action. You will fly missions that were in fact flown by many different pilots, so you have an opportunity to score more kills than the real fliers. However, the real goal of this campaign is to stay alive; as the campaign progresses you should find this increasingly more difficult.

Forgive my ignorance  but what is a *.mep file?

Sorry for my ignorance but is the new Channel map in the 4.10 Patch? I can just download the missions and start playing them?

The 4.10 patch has the Solomons map. The Channel map is not included in 4.10 as per agreement between TD and 1C, to avoid conflict between the patch and Cliffs of Dover. (AFAIK)

since it seems to be a "soon to be deleted/closed thread", thanks for clearing this up!

that sticky message about forum posting guidelines from the mods never gave an explanation about the so called "unauthorized mods", so now i understand why .

Updated to version 1.1 to re-apply a missing audio file that had somehow become detached from a mission briefing.

If you don't want to download the entire package but wish to make the change simply open Hurricane_23b.mis in notepad and add the following line after [Main]

BriefSound Missions/Campaign/GB/BoverB-Redux/sound/Winston.wav

Code:

[MAIN]
  BriefSound Missions/Campaign/GB/BoverB-Redux/sound/Winston.wav
  MAP CAN_EnglishChannel/1940load.ini
...

Problem Loading Mission

I have a CD version of IL 2 1946 patched to 4.10 and no mods, everything works fine, but when I downloaded and installed BoB redux and HSFX the mission gives me the error message : Mission loading failed Landscape Can_EnglishChannel/1940 load.ini failed. :(

I know I'm probaby doing something stupid but I would love to run this mission.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
My system is Asus M4785G Phenom X2 465 4 gb ram Nvidia GX 280.

Thanks
Steve

Sorry, but it won't work with your setup. Re-read the rest of the thread please. You will need to do some "Leg work" to make this campaign work.

BadAim 02-09-2011 05:09 AM

It's good to see you back around, Extreme_One. I'm looking forward to your work in COD. I'm quite sure you'll not be able to resist! "Resistance is futile, you will be assimilated"

Raggz 02-09-2011 05:30 AM

Ok, installed the ultrapack 2.1 and got this working. great stuff :)
However i got a small problem. After installing UP i lost the swaztika on the tails. I am using IL2 Stab 6.3.
It's the first time i use mods with IL2 so i'm abit n00b in that department ;)

Any tips on how to fix this?

beazil 02-10-2011 12:19 AM

Forgive my noobness - but how does one install this campaign and use it? I've tried unzipping to my default il2 directory, but I cannot seem to find the campaign in game.

Perhaps I have done something wrong, or I am not looking in the right place. Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Launch IL-2 FB and go to the Pilot Career section.
Hit the New button.
Select "United Kingdom" in the country selector.
You can now see "The Battle Over Britain Redux" as a career option.

Halfway through and as a BoB fan enjoying this one? Is there an error with the player flightpath in Mission 5? Hope you don't mind but I had to make a alteration in FMB so that the player can get to the combat zone before the enemy arrived and departed. Other than its been great, Many thanks!

Thanks for the feedback. I will take another look at that mission now.

{EDIT} Whilst I really didn't find anything major wrong with the mission I have made a minor tweak to the timings.

{EDIT2} Found the bug with mission Hurricane_05.mis when flying as a lower rank. Sorry I didn't catch this one sooner.

Extreme_One 02-10-2011 07:38 PM

Updated to version 1.2 to mend a broken skin and tweak mission 5 slightly.

If you have previously downloaded and installed you can simply download the hotfix file and install over previous version.

Enjoyed this first time round.. I'd forgotten how good it was, and now enjoying it all over again on the modded map version.. Good stuff!

blampars 04-06-2011 01:17 PM

Loved the original campaign, looking forward to playing this while cod gets its line of fixes. Does anyone know if this works with hsfx 5.0?
