Just checked - that doesnt seem to be the original camo scheme.

Thx, WTF?!

Sven 01-24-2011 09:48 PM

looks east-front-ish, what is the original paint scheme then?

hm. maybe there were several different scheme in layers...and the top one just peeled off

Sven 01-24-2011 10:00 PM

Doesn't look all that different Swiss, I think most of the paint is missing on the first photo, I see green traces everywhere, just very lightly, bit of a difficult angle as well to spot it well.

swiss 01-24-2011 10:30 PM

Is was more about:
-position of the yellow band
-AC markings

(and maybe a bit too bright, it's fugly)

Yes indeed now you mention, they must've had reasons for it though...

JG52Uther 01-24-2011 10:41 PM

It just looks...wrong.

Tempest123 01-24-2011 10:56 PM

I'm gonna hold my comments until i see it in the air, or at least from another angle. It does look bright though.

Romanator21 01-25-2011 03:50 AM

Looks fine to me. I think those guys do at least some research.

Anyway, after so long outside, exposed to the elements, the original colors are going to be severely altered. Still, you can see the yellow on the rudder, and that there is yellow behind the cross and covering a tiny bit of the rear canopy fairing.

I would venture to say that the plane was over-painted sometime in service, and that's why there's another yellow band further back.

If you're worried about the "brightness", don't. She will be dull and grungy in no time :)

They did fine on this one:

Yeah, their Emil is sweet, love the paint on that one. I'll just have to wait until they fly the 190 again, I'm glad they didn't go for another grey mottle scheme like the flugwerk ones.

JG53Frankyboy 01-25-2011 02:41 PM

these green brown camo looks like a typical JG54 one.
JG54 Fw190 had often very different colours than the 'typical' grey ones of other Luftwaffeunits !

DKoor 01-25-2011 04:06 PM

You guys sound like you think that they make "weathered" colors in the factory:grin:.

no but a bit of weathering adds to the immersion of such a war plane:)

Remember, this is a real plane and real paint, not a videogame "skin".

Even back then, planes came off the production line looking....NEW.:-)

I'd say it looks gorgeous.

Il2Pongo 01-26-2011 03:45 PM

If the green was that colour, it would have been seen from space and recovered years ago.
Those colours were applied in the field by JG54 to hide their aircraft on the ground...What ever colour was used, that green is wrong.

That was not what I meant, of course they came rolling out with new bright paint, but to fit in his historical content, which is not a showmodel but a warbird, some weathering gives the plane immediately more history behind it, as if it was grasped out of the heat of combat, but that's just personal taste.
