It would be most interesting to be told whether the contentious historical markings that were never officially allowed into IL-2 (except via the unofficial STAB application) are included in COD please?
If the Luftwaffe is deprived of its tail markings then things won't look very 'real'.

Well the law in Germany hasn't changed so I guess it will be the same as the first IL-2.

Some European countries are (naturally) still a bit sensitive to the insignia... hence local laws forbidding the display of such
( and I don't think any threats of (by the usual suspects) not buying the game unless the insignia is included, will do them much good ;) )

then again, there may or may not be an option... who knows [shrug]

Yupp if the aircraft had that certain tail marking on, here in Germany Ubi could then forget sales, as the game would then be banned from all stores here in Germany. Absolute no go here.

The answer has always been no, nothing posted here or anywhere else will change it.

Oleg has also stressed that community and commercial add-ons are part of their business modelat. So I am sure control by the developers will be extremely tight on added content. :grin:

Actually the russian parliament has passed a law that outlaws "national-socialist" emblems. The actual text of said law is not very precise and could be interpreted in various ways which is why 1C (the mother corporation) decided to play it safe and remove the swastika from any of their new games. So there won't be a swastika in CoD.

The funniest in this pc story is that the swatiska is not forbidden in Israel, for instance, at scale models shows, the German aircrafts are built and shown as they were.

If the aircrafts are "skin-able" in SOW, a very simple solution would be to choose an historically-correct selfmade skin and to have some lines of code applying this skin to all the German aircraft in the game, better than nothing and totally out of reach of these stupid laws.

Ha! Yep ... good point. But in the UK at least, 60 years of Airfix modelling, book covers, TV programmes and films, aircraft museums and children's games have all conditioned the population to EXPECT to see those markings on WWII Luftwaffe aircraft. Especially when they're not rapidly and dynamically deconstructing themselves in mid-air but are instead in level flight in a formation or indeed parked at one's own French airfield. ;)

I should point out that I was really looking for a YES/NO on this question and I'm sorry if I've stirred up an old and worn debate. I do at least know the answer now.

One supplementary question please that genuinely interests me and perhaps someone who knows can provide the answer.

if NSDAP insignia and markings are illegal in COD in Germany and Russia then why is there a loophole that allows motion pictures to bypass that law. For example Valhalla, Downfall or Battle of Britain etc etc. If they are excluded on artistic merit then why is not a historically accurate pc simulation also exluded? it seems like double standards.
Or is it because with a film the autthorities see the full context of the usage in advance whereas in a sim it's more dynamic?
Finally, swastikas or not, I can't remember anyone but the WWII luiftwaffe using ME110s or flying 109s out of France so in terms of referencing the NSDAP (who were definitely dictating usage) isn't that identical? It all seems maddeningly illogical to me but I'll shut up now.

I do not know what the law in Russia says but in Germany it's simple: The law says the swastika is forbidden. That's the basic principle.

But then it lists a number of exceptions: art (i.e. movies), education, research and science (books and documentations). Computer games (just like scale models for example) are considered toys regardless of the attention to details their creator paid and various court decisions since the 1970s have hardened that principle. Which means computer games cannot depict the swastika or they're automatically banned (not censored, banned) in Germany.

I don't think the omission/ inclusion of the insignia will affect how a vga will render one way or the other

The only way we are going to see a swastika on the tail of our German planes is through the mod community, plain and simple. Much like the original IL-2.

My mention of my gpus was intended to indicate how important this application (COD) is to me and that I want it to be as good and as accurate as possible . Thank you for your kind input.

Not that I know of. From what i've heard every copy will be the same except language of coarse. Nobody gets any special treatment, or any 'extra' special treatment i should say. We are all so spoiled i swear... :rolleyes:

You shouldn't regret asking a legitimate question. I'm the same I like historical acuracy and it would be nice to have acurate german planes without modding skins, but to change the game for every single countries own laws would be expensive so they must go with a version that suits all. It is just unfortunate that the laws of a couple of countries end up dictating what the whole world can see, as that is not their intent.

Now i'm sure you will be able to add custom skins, and acurate German plane skins will be some of the very first mods made for CoD no doubt because of this issue. Thats got to be a good thing huh? :)

Yea that's definitely going to be one of the first mods to come around for this. It's really one of the only things that needs modding at this point IMO, everything else looks great! And the first couple patches should clear things up as far whats been left out.. (like the weather system that everyones been moaning about). People need patience :)

It's the same foolish restriction which IL-2 had. I'll wait, before buying, the week or two or three until the Modders do what 1C feels it cannot do legally... If it takes months, I'll still wait. Modders to the rescue again!

It is you who is foolish sir, not the developers or publisher. Did you even read this thread? Modders do not publish their skins, What Modders do, changing their copy of the game and helping others change their copy, is completly legal. If ubisoft published the game in Germany how you would like it, it would be found illegal and banned 100% certainty. No maybe.

Now I said I like historical accuracy, but by saying what you suggested (not buying the game solely for this reason) is insulting and offensive.

Custom skins will fix this problem, just like they do in IL2.

You really think politicians are going to change laws because some kiddies want historical accuracy for a game?? Do really think they have nothing else to do??
