New pc

Hi guys, because Oleg and Luthier are struggling to get use of a good PC within thier workplace, I was wondering if anyone was interested in us all donating some cash and getting a Oleg a decent PC, this would benefit us all and allow Oleg to update us with more video content than the usual screenshots. It most be frustraing for him not to be able to show us his best work because his PC simply cant run it, and he and Luthier have told us many times that they havent got access to a good PC.

Some of you may know that I build gaming rigs for a living, I can buy all parts needed at a trade price and would give my time for free to build it and post it to Oleg, it would also be a nice gesture from the community to Oleg.

Your thoughts please.

What a great idea!!...i would donate something Tree.
Would be Fantastic to see SOW in all its DX11, full detail, 16xAA, 16xAF and in HD :)

*Claps for Tree* :)

Hecke 01-03-2011 11:22 AM

Great idea, actually it is mine

Well, hopefully Oleg will then use this pc and give us outstanding high quality pics.

The sandy bridge are out and they seem to be great.

What about:

- Sandy bridge Core i7-2600 (k) 3,4 GHz
- Nvidia GTX 570 or 80 (because Oleg likes nVidia)
...

But Oleg then needs also Mouse, keyboard and monitor.

Letum 01-03-2011 11:39 AM

This is getting old Tree.

Foo'bar 01-03-2011 11:41 AM

Oleg shurely don't need a PC to be given by community - even if he and luthier mentioned that they haven't access to such.

Some users here seem to need a forum break for shure I guess ;) Just lay back and simply wait until SoW has been finished. Try to think about other things.

Dano 01-03-2011 11:49 AM

albx 01-03-2011 12:29 PM

I'm with foobar, i don't think they needs it given by us..

Hecke 01-03-2011 12:35 PM

It's not only our weekly screenies, it's also better advertising for the product to new potential customers.

But you guys are right, Oleg could buy it himself because it's just a small sum compared to the whole developments cost.
What about nVidia. They work together with Oleg? Why don't they give 'em a graphX card.

Tree_UK 01-03-2011 01:45 PM

Or when the guy in the office with the good PC goes to toilet or has a dinner break or leaves to go home at night assuming he does, then they could always sneak on then and take a screenie in high res or a bit of video, just a thought.

Yeah Oleg Maddox works in mysterious ways

merlin1 01-03-2011 02:38 PM

Lol

Blackdog_kt 01-03-2011 02:51 PM

I seriously can't differentiate between whether this is a genuine community driven initiative or an elaborate baiting/trolling scheme and trust me, i mean it in the nicest possible way and with no ill will against anyone. I'm just genuinely confused :-P

I think you guys are referring to Oleg's comment that they don't use the team's most powerful PCs for taking the Friday screenshots, because these PCs are reserved for coders and designers to work on since they are faster.

In that case, if i was in Oleg's position and the community bought me a brand new, top of the line PC guess what i would do? Snap the Friday pictures on it at full detail? Nope. I would put an extra designer from my team to work on that top spec PC to make sure he can finish his/her work faster and with less time waiting for the code to compile or the 3d models to render between each correction he/she makes ;)

...

I'm thinking the same thing Blackdog, and tending to come down on the second option.

Tree, I don't know if this was meant as a subtle joke or more point-scoring but it's all getting pretty tired now.

I'll just add that I don't consider myself particularly cynical, but my personal 'bullshit-meter' just jumped off the scale on reading your post.

Tree_UK 01-03-2011 03:13 PM

Not meant as anything other than what i suggested, and it doesnt matter how the PC is used it can only be beneficial. I am happy to give my time for free if it helps out, it seems obvious that money is a bit tight at maddox games, so i thought this may help.

Ernst 01-03-2011 03:22 PM

I have an idea. I suggest you to give me a new PC. :o

JG52Uther 01-03-2011 03:25 PM

I think I will finally see SoW in all its glory the day it is installed on my computer.I KNOW it will be fantastic,so I can wait until then.
If Oleg wanted to show us full on up to date screenshots,I have no doubt he could do so.
I think he wants us to wait, and be amazed.

I suggest you email both AMD and Nvidia's Moscow offices, point out there's a community out there which is very excited about this upcoming game, and last but not least, the delivered eye candy related to certain pc parts could actually affect their consuming habits.

I mean, they could reach a few thousand of their core customers for roughly $200 each.
Sounds like a bargain. ;)

Flanker35M 01-03-2011 03:40 PM

S!

+1 with Swiss :) nVidia is already bribing..ehh..contributing to SoW development. Now add AMD to the soup and shall see what boils out of it ;)

We have been laying back since 2004 When SOW was first mentioned, I think 7 years enough, I would have done less time for armed robbery.:grin:

Indeed. :D

Oleg has often said he "holds back" the best stuff for final release...

He wants to "wow" people when the game is ready. I think we could find that this is the real reason Oleg has had trouble laying his hands on a "good" computer.

philip.ed 01-03-2011 06:33 PM

The thing is, if an artist said he would do a picture for you, and you agreed, would you keep pressing him to finish it? Unless you've paid a deposit, no-one is entitled to release anything at a certain time.
I think the best thing to do is chill, relax and just wait for SoW. It will come at some-point, just let the team work in whatever way they want...;)
I think it's a nice idea, but the logistics of it could work adversely for the company. If newspapers got hold of the idea, no doubt they'd turn it round to say that the team was scrounging money/hardware off the community...

fruitbat 01-03-2011 06:43 PM

question,

If we knew a firm release date, would that day come around any quicker?

answer,

No.

Have you finally decided "Sod it! I'll take the ban" ??

After what you posted last week about getting warnings it seems like you have finally decided it's all too much hassle and have decided to go out with a bang?!

personally I hope not, but ...?

Are inmates allowed internet time?

BigC208 01-04-2011 05:31 PM

I'm with Furbs on this one (first page, second post).
The *claps for Tree* and a new PC for the rest uf us when SoW comes out.
That way if, Tree builds em, he can pay his doctors bill.
