On one of the shots you may find demonstration of feature - select the airctaft, etc... With some of difficulty settings you may also seat in the cockpit of other plane right in the mission play.

This is good feature for film makers....

Flanker35M 12-24-2010 12:45 PM

S!

Thank You and Merry Christmas!

Pierre@ 12-24-2010 12:45 PM

Thanks Oleg and Merry Christmas!!

NSU 12-24-2010 12:46 PM

nice pictures, i love the landscape screenshots.

how is it playable with the massive Bomber formations?

Daniël 12-24-2010 12:49 PM

Nice to see different engine flames from a damaged engine and a undamaged engine:cool:

Nice Wellington formation :)

Merry Christmas!

choctaw111 12-24-2010 12:52 PM

This stuff is just incredible. Thanks for another great update.
Have a wonderful Christmas.

Dano 12-24-2010 12:57 PM

Beautiful! Have a great Christmas Oleg :)

dflion 12-24-2010 12:57 PM

Looking very good Oleg

The colour saturation on all pics is looking much better.
I liked the pic of the 30+ Wellingtons flying along - very impressive!
Finally the pic of the Spitfire flying at 'o' feet over a German airfield - looks very realistic.
Thanks
DFLion

Ploughman 12-24-2010 12:58 PM

Nice skyfull of Wellies. Merry Christmas all.

Li'lJugs 12-24-2010 12:59 PM

Looking good! Merry Christmas, all!

philip.ed 12-24-2010 12:59 PM

Nice, great to see random squadron-codes in the formation too ;)
Oleg, will you modify the clouds post-release so they look more realistic (e.g. flat-bottoms) or so that there are more clod-types? i've searched your posts, but you've never really commented on whether this will be tweaked

Have an awesome christmas, and best wishes. I didn't expect an update today, so what a pleasant surprise ;)

maclean525 12-24-2010 01:06 PM

Great to see high-detail shots with anti-aliasing etc. Looks fantastic!

SlipBall 12-24-2010 01:06 PM

Thank's Oleg!...Merry Christmas to you, your family, and the team.

Runar 12-24-2010 01:09 PM

Amazing shots there Oleg!

Merry Christmas to all of you! :)

Baron 12-24-2010 01:10 PM

Thnx Oleg and team.

Merry X-mas.

The closeup of the damaged Bf-110 is my favorite, followed by the Tiger Moth.

There's no AA on those shots, you can see jaggies quite clearly if you view the full images.

JG52Krupi 12-24-2010 01:12 PM

Awesome wasn't expecting anything today.

Thanks Oleg and Co have a great Christmas.

P.S. Did anyone else notice the 2D looking damage on the bf110 fuselage :( or is that just the lighting?

Vongraz 12-24-2010 01:16 PM

merry Christmas to you and to your team and thanks for this great update shots !

I think it looks a bit flat because it's the shadow side of the plane or just WIP.

HARs_ASSOS 12-24-2010 01:19 PM

Looking great!

Thanks Oleg and Team - Merry Christmas to all~

choctaw111 12-24-2010 01:23 PM

Is the tracer smoke 3D?
I notice it looks really good in this update and different from the last time this was shown.
How many different types of tracer smoke trails are there?

Hecke 12-24-2010 01:27 PM

Hi,

Will there be prop wash effect on grass, wheat, etc?
I'm missing it in the picture where the spit flies over the field. :)

Pictures look amazing. Color saturation and lighing seems perfect. Thx.

StalkerKHV88 12-24-2010 01:29 PM

отличная подборка!! 30 самолетов в кадре потрясает)) олег, с нетерпением ждем релиза! у вас отличная команда!

Ps единственное что бросается в глаза, не очень естественное положение головы пилота при горизонтальном полете..как то запрокинута назад..

322Sqn_Dusty 12-24-2010 01:30 PM

Very impressive..great little details like the manual airraid siren.

Great work.

Happy holidays and best wishes to all from virtual 322 Squadron.

Many, many thanks for SoW!

Merry X-Mas and a happy new year!

All the best,

Redwan 12-24-2010 01:36 PM

Fantastic ! Great Job again ! Everything looks god damned photo realistic !
I think that I'll become a no life as soon as BoB is available ! ;-)

Some little question about these fatnastic screens (wanted to say photos ... ;-)):

- Will planes leave traces on the ground (taxi or crash) ?
- Will the grass move under the wind of the propeller or when flying very low (same question for water - will the water be affected when flying low above it -> white trace) ?

пилоты еще не все поправлены в каждом самолете. они чуток анимированны (слегка двигаются)

+ 1. Well, surprised by this shot too : looks very 2D as the more simple ones of Il-2 IMO.

The one over the city is great, the wellies formation is awesome, the others near the ground are superb, great color and bright.

Thanks a lot for this unexpected Fri update, i wish you and your team and your family a great Xmas and new year, have fine holidays ! (But not too large please  ;))

This all depends of lighting. Simply too dark inside and no lighting direct rays for this side. In some positions when freezed we may see this effect. Rare.

Trooper117 12-24-2010 01:46 PM

Thanks for the continuing updates!

A very merry xmas to all..

Flyby 12-24-2010 01:46 PM

Hans! Are you OK back there?!

Oleg,
Do I see the rear gunner of that damaged 110 slumped over? If so, nice work. ;)

I was forgetting : Very nice the fact we now can select some things/views with a clever tool, direct ingame or replay. Cool :)

PeterPanPan 12-24-2010 01:52 PM

Wonderful pics Oleg, thank you. The Tiger Moth shot is outstanding. I'll spend hours just enjoying taxiing around such beautiful airfields!! And the long brown grass/wheat ... wow.

Here's to a great 2011 for us all ;).

Happy Christmas all

The Kraken 12-24-2010 02:07 PM

Great shots and some nice features again - getting better every week, nice to see that the lighting is still being tweaked and how small changes can make a major difference here.

One question: some older shots and I think the last video showed a subtle reflection on surfaces with steep viewing angles. This looks great but hasn't made it into any of the recent shots. Any chance this effect will be featured in the final version? I think it makes a big difference towards photrealistic appearance, so I keep my fingers crossed...

Anyway, thanks Oleg and enjoy the weekend!

(and for the record because it comes up every year around this time: Orthodox Christmas is still two weeks away, so don't be surprised about an update today, and likewise if there won't be an update in two weeks - just FYI, hope that's not too OT ;))

reflection and other nice features depends of settings and power of the video card.
The shots are done using the non high end PC

we will selebrate new year coming at the night from 31 to 1. Next week

BigPickle 12-24-2010 02:40 PM

Merry Christmas Oleg and team. Thanks for the great screen shots again.
The last one of the Wellingtons is a work of art. The colour is beautiful, very nice to see the yellow on the RAF roundel is spot on. Well done

Water effects are in IL2 now. therefore can expect same and more in SOW

CharveL 12-24-2010 04:10 PM

Looking good as always.

Just curious if LOD "pop-ups" will be apparent on lower detail settings or whether you have implemented a method to fade them in to be less intrusive? I'm sure it's always a trade-off for performance and may not be practical but at least will there be a distance slider that's manually adjustable for ground objects?

All the best!

Have an awesome christmas, and best wishes. I didn't expect an update today, so what a pleasant surprise ;)

Not all clouds appear to have flat bottoms. Especially when viewed from above.

MD_Titus 12-24-2010 04:11 PM

cracking update oleg, thanks. looks... well, less like wip and more like advertising shots or magazine preview standard, albeit done on the non-high end machine/without AA. love the flock of wimpies and the spit flyby in particular, got me a new desktop there i reckon.

happy christmas oleg and team!

T}{OR 12-24-2010 04:21 PM

Lovely update, and even better DM (if we're to judge about the 110's engine flames ).

Next time I would like to see those bombers in some kind of bomber type formation (I know Brits used to fly more or less ad-hoc). :)

BigC208 12-24-2010 04:25 PM

The Spit flying low over the weatfield is amazing. When you blow up the picture you can see it has no anti-aliasing. Just wondering how smooth the fps will be with this much deail. Movies wih SoW are going to be almost photo realistic based on this picture.

Merry X-Mas

Some lovely screens Oleg thank you and merry christmas, could you give us an update has to when we may see this on the shelves, obviously you missed the release for the anniversary of the battle of britian what anniversary are you going for next or are you just going to release when its done?

Robert 12-24-2010 04:57 PM

Thanks Oleg.

I'm loving the lighting EFX. Those Wellies look swell. The 110's are fantabulous. Excellent work ladies and gentlemen. Thanks again.

I'm gonna go look a little more. See ya.

Herr Hoffman 12-24-2010 05:00 PM

Dito. And the prop wash thing, too. You can still hope Oleg just missed these questions. ;)

thanks Oleg...i should of been more clear in my question.

can we record a online track, then after, view the track, pause and switch the view to any cockpit and carry on viewing?
Also will we be able to stop, rewind or fast forward the track?

Merry Christmas to EVERYONE

Some more great screenshots..

Question about the 109e3 canopy, i've always thought that most Emils had the 'square' canopy by the time of BoB...or was that just the E4 and E7? does anyone have any figures about this or how many E3s were retro fitted?

The Bf109 just does not look right to me with that canopy and as the Bristol Beaufighter is included as an A.I plane which didn't see service until December 1940, Oleg must be covering the time period up to then, I think most 109s had the square canopy by then...prehaps the E4 and E7 will be downloadable content after the game is released...what does Rise Of Flight charge $ per new aeroplane?

Oleg, a Christmas general update on how the game is shaping up would be nice !!

How many of us will still be checking the forums on Xmas day to see if Oleg has posted?!

All the very best to you all,

Simon

Fafnir_6 12-24-2010 11:24 PM

Thanks for a great update, Oleg! I simply love the shot of the Do17Zs (I soooo wish these would be flyable...someday). The damaged Bf110C screens are awesome. I think we see now the advantage of all that insane internal detail you guys put together back when SoW was first announced...Outstanding! The little ammo door hanging open in flight is absolutely godly. I can't wait to fly a wreck like that back to base :). Someone mentioned taxiing around the airfield just to admire them. I think I'll need to +1 that.

Cheers and have a great Christmas/New Years,

Fafnir_6

Jaws2002 12-25-2010 12:03 AM

Thank you very much for the update Oleg.

The damaged 110 is way cool.:)
Looks like the bullets shot the hatch in the nose open. The hinges were probabily shot and hatch is just hanging there in the wind under the plane.
How cool is that!!! :-P

That beast will be the first plane I'll take to the air.

Thank you very much and Merry Christmas to you and your family!!!

Thanks for the great update Oleg and team. Those yellow noses on the 109's still make me cringe, they seem almost phosphorescent. Of course if that's the biggest complaint I can find, were doing bloody well!

Positively love the big formations of bombers, I can't wait to slice through them, guns blazing!

Merry Christmas to all!

Agreed! wish we could see some nice weathering on those 109s!

Anyway...im sure we will get some fantastic skins for them very quick after SOW is out :)

luthier 12-25-2010 05:21 PM

I'm glad you guys all like the update! Happy holidays everyone!

We'll have to take some more shots of the 110 damage next week so you'll see it in better detail. It does look flat in the shadow, but only because there isn't any light to highlight the jaggies. It is just as dramatic as the other planes. Also note the hanging ammo box cover on the nose.

Come to think of it, I don't think we've ever shown a shot up 109 either, have we?

furbs 12-25-2010 05:59 PM

Luthier, dont know if you can say anything about dates ;) but can you give any details of how SOW is coming along?

Edit...a damaged weathered 109 would be great!

merry xmas by the way!

Tbag 12-25-2010 06:06 PM

Happy Holidays (do you have holidays atm?) to you too Ilya! Can't wait for the shots of the shot up 109 :)

Insuber 12-25-2010 06:24 PM

Maybe it's my current monitor, but yellows look overexposed, almost burnt.

BTW, the Tiger Moth pic looks a real photo, almost. Bravo.

ElAurens 12-25-2010 06:46 PM

About that Tiger Moth.

BlitzPig_Raven is a real pilot in England and looked up the registration number on that Moth...

Quote:

that Tiger Moth registration belongs to a Piper PA 28 that was de-registered in 1986...

Oleg and Luthier:

Can I please have the adress of your office where I can send you a proper pc so that you can show the public the whole beauty of the sim in the weekly screenshots and videos? It's worth that for me.

Very nice update indeed guys, thanks. The big formation shot is so impressive, colours, lighting, everything perfect. Wheat looks very real. Love the abandoned table with the wine bottle...someone left in a hurry!

Hope you all have a great Christmas break, I bet you need it.

Come to think of it, I don't think we've ever shown a shot up 109 either, have we?
