P-51 texture/model issue. Appears on default and custom skins. Help appreciated?
Okay, not really noticed this before as I usually go around in my P-47, but after loading up a 'Vanilla' IL2 4.09 I went and loaded up a P-51D 20NA (it also appears on the B and C Models too) and took it for a flight.
Looking out at the wings I saw this: http://i277.photobucket.com/albums/k.../P-51issue.jpg Now this is a default skin, so not a custom made error, but I don't know what it is that causes it. I loaded a Custom skin too and got the same result. If this is part of the model, then I'm embarrassing myself, apologies, but if it isn't, what is causing it? Cheers, MP |
It's part of the model.
I imagine they are part of the control surface mechanism. Anyway, they appear on photographs of real 51s. You might have some luck giving them a light texture to counter IL2's harsh shading on them...if you can find the UV coordinates for them. |

Okay, thanks guys. I think if they were a light-grey texture then it wouldn't have been so-obvious, but I just couldn't work out (when you see a real P-51 image) why there are two Black Triangles? Just doesn't even match the 'skin' texture colour?
Thanks for figuring it out though, much appreciated.....just need to work out how to fix it now!!! Cheers, MP |
Looking at your P51 image you have the resolution quite low causing some "jaggies" this makes any edges look worse.
It looks normal to me. 1680x1050 http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...1018-48-52.jpg |
Well, I went and updated a custom skin, with the same resolution 1152x864 (what I usually record with Fraps) and found the 'Black Triangles'.
So after changing the colour of the texture I now have this: http://i277.photobucket.com/albums/k...ueresolved.jpg Will test again at higher resolution (1920x1200), but it's a pain to record at the rez. with FRAPS. Cheers, MP |
I think I have 'fixed' it myself. For some reason I was in DirectX mode (without noticing) and then saw that by changing it back to OpenGL, the Black Triangles disappeared. Cool!

Those are external aileron hinge stiffeners.

And I got an answer about the "humps" on real Mustangs. They are there to clear the bell cranks for the aileron controls. So there ya go. :)

Hey thanks! I could get an idea of the principle in there and I see what you mean. I'd love to see the actual movement though. Can't really visualize the movement/attach points from that blueprint. The rod is attached to the lower half of the flap and pushes/retracts, while the upper part is hinged/pivots via a stabilizer?

Alpha, your sample seems to come from a P-38 blue print . ;) ... |
Didn't even notice that, Rodolphe. Missile tree and "dive flaps".

Hehe
Im an idiot Wrong BP's |
Well, do you have the right blueprints? I kinda like looking at those. Nothing like the fresh smell of blueprints in the morning.

I'm still stunned I missed the rocket pylon, Serves me right for posting when extremely tired :(
Looks like the BP folder P51 has the P38 content in it !!!!! |
