Ask Gunners to hold their fire

Here's something that i think noone ever asked for but in esense such an abitlity could save your binary life.

So .. how about if we could ask the gunners to hold their fire?

Eh?

Excellent point.

Especially at night!

I would like to have that option very much, but I don't think it will make much difference in SP, but I hope Oleg has secretly put brains in enemy AI pilots;)

Nonetheless, this would be a great option.

I would also find this VERY useful.

Feathered_IV 11-12-2010 10:54 PM

That would be essential. It would also be desirable for them to report sightings of land, sea and air targets and their position.

Superb!!!!

Not suer if it was in IL2, but I'd also like a command to tell the AI/online wingmen to regain altitude or get as much as they could (maybe add presets). It would be useful when you know that enemy fighters are approaching. I find that in SP my wingmen would end up skimming the ground after a dogfight and as soon as some new enemies shows up they were dead meat. Issuing a "on my six" command isn't always appropriate for every situation, but it usually works for most.

That's not a new feature, IL2 already has that. Turn auto gunner off = hold fire.

So the gunners have a sight ability that the fighters dont?

Hoping to sneak past?

INteresting.

but then it will never shoot again till you switch seats, that´s not really helpful is it?

You can switch them on off from any position(f.i. pilot seat), anytime.

That doesn't work when you allready have a substantial workload flying the bomber and trying to evade enemy ... there has to be a command or something gunners have to be a bit more inteligent (no x-ray eyes though :P).

A little less A and a little more I would probably do the trick here. A properly trained gunner would (more or less) hold his fire until the target was in range and/or he had a good shot, if they have pulled that off, then things will be good. (and dangerous)

Blackdog_kt 11-13-2010 03:38 PM

This could be done the way it was in silent hunter 3.

Available gunner modes:
Fire at will
Start firing at long range
Start firing at medium range
Start firing at short range
Cease fire

You could totally silence them if you wanted to sneak past, or tell them to fire only at short range when it's clear that you've been spotted and it's time to defend yourself.

Alternatively, when flying heavies up high and you know you'll be spotted anyway, you could tell them to fire at long range in order to deter the fighters from getting close.

'Number three, you're in my way...I've got him in my sights' as a command.

...and then he obligingly pulls away.

Would be nice.
