How do you think should be the box art of BoB?

Make your design and show it

Here I show the first.

Here you have the template in PNG (transparent background) with the logos at the bottom

GOOD LUCK! ;)

Magnificent - It's done, send it to print!

Friendly_flyer 11-12-2010 10:17 PM

nice cover, but lacks the other side completely, looks like a Spit only sim.

(which I wouldn't touch as I dont fly red planes) ;)

HFC_Dolphin 11-13-2010 06:16 AM

Fantastic work!

Agree.

_RAAF_Stupot 11-13-2010 08:12 AM

This is so the shopkeeper can't figure out what genre the game is, and so puts it everywhere.

_RAAF_Stupot 11-13-2010 08:21 AM

Actually I think this works better: Its got elements of science fiction, historical epic, fantasy, western, romantic drama AND gothic horror!

Idea

Fantastic!

Well ... This has given me an idea ...

If Oleg, the entire team of 1C and Ubisoft lords it seems we could organize a contest to create box-ART and the winner is you could send an official box SoW: BoB signed by Oleg Maddox.

"Oleg, you think good idea?

And if it is offered as a prize could be better idea to publish the illustration professional forums.

Well, there is the idea ...

Best Regards. ;)

322Sqn_Dusty 11-13-2010 08:09 PM

Great idea,

Oleg mentioned that there could be a series coming up in chrono ( Il2- 1939 Before the storm (C), SOW Bob 1940, ... maybe?).

But Ubisoft? And with the girls in that game..the pegi should be higher... ;)

My try [Edit: using Robert Taylor's art]:

Major, I like that a lot. A classic, relaxed style suits it very well, and you can't really have leave the cover without the two most recognisable things of World War II air warfare and Battle of Britain: the Stuka and the Cliffs of Dover.

The 3 most: white cliffs (doesn't have to be dover), Stuka, and a British fighter. Honestly, how could you leave out a Spit :)

Very nice Major. The Hurricane looks a little lost, and there are no bullets being fired. Perhaps the Hurri could be taking a shot at a Stuka, or diving on the second Stuka that's in shot.

major_setback 11-14-2010 08:21 PM

More colourful (paintings here and above are not mine - they are taken from the internet. This one is by Troy White).

Very good, major_setback

I like the first, and I like both texts.

It may be best to illustrate with the following narrative:

SPOTLIGHT
Spitfire vs Bf-109 in combat and to see tracer fire and machine gun

SECOND LEVEL
Stuka or Ju-88 that are attacked by Hurricanes and a burning plane in the sky

LANDSCAPE
Red sky over the coast. White Cliffs on the English Channel (eg the port of Dover as the outline of "major")

The whole image should look storm of war (for example a blood red sky color big storm) where the distance, the background, you see that there is great air battle.

Well ... that's how I imagine it ... ;)

speculum jockey 11-16-2010 01:18 PM

Two Ideas:

1. Remember that most of those Google image search results are another person's property, and not able to be used for commercial products and marketing without consent ($$$).

2. SOW looks so good already that the cover could be done with the game engine, and a little bit of photoshop to make if fit better, get rid of some of the jaggies.

Personally I think that would be a pretty nice advert, "Our game is so beautiful, we put the screen caps on the cover!"

Agree, that's why I made my proposals with the best in game shots I found. Naturally I was joking with my title due to swiss comments, and the shot should include what Ian points out if we could have our hands on a beta to set up Majors scene "in game"... ;)

The layout of the text here, to me, is excellent. Good stuff :D Can't wait to see what the box-art looks like. It won't bother me, but I'm sure it will be an important factor for budding simmers who have never flown Il-2, but have heard of its legacy.

Splitter 11-17-2010 05:37 PM

Yeah, I did a triple take on that box cover lol. Very inventive!

Im sorry to say this Oleg but with that grin on your face and those flight helmets my first thought was the character Gollum from the film Lord of the Rings. ;)

I really enjoy your sense of humor, its pretty fantastic when the head of design of 1C can contribute to this thread with a hilarious box art!

Good luck with the bug hunting and the final release!
