SoW: Battle for Moscow and other Igromir news
I couldn’t face ploughing beyond the 63rd page of DRM/publisher arguments so I started a new thread with some pretty pictures :)
Notice anything interesting in this snap? Welcome to the Battle for Moscow peeps :D (presumably No3 in the SoW series) Битва за Москву http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i3...3/IMG_0103.jpg The big top going up at Igromir... http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i3...z_33aced56.jpg 1C dwarfed by Xbox 360 http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i3...z_5add7c0d.jpg http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i3...hko33/_391.jpg http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i3...3/S6301707.jpg Well so much for the behind-closed-doors, embargoed industry-only sneak peak. Looks pretty open to me! http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i3...3/DSCF8005.jpg Hello Luthier :) http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i3...2a88c0e7_o.jpg Judging by the response though, the overall experience seems to fall short of thrilling. Dare I say it’s wasted on kids clearly of the PlayStation persuasion? http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i3...1259874_XL.jpg Back to the game – it appears aircraft location arrows can now be implemented in full cockpit view. Hopefully (presumably!) you can switch this off server-end. http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i3...3536642_XL.jpg Luither’s presentation: http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i3...3/DSCF8012.jpg http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i3...3/DSCF8015.jpg http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i3...3/DSCF8016.jpg And what’s this? A carrier? Looks like someone mixed up their PowerPoint files with an old Pacific Fighters presentation ;) :D http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i3...3/DSCF8011.jpg |
Some of the pictures must be photoshopped.I saw girls there.

That shot of the Spits flying past the cliffs looks awesome :)

Looks good. Encouraging to see them getting to the presentation stage.

LOL @ Ilya. I hope his wife doesn't see that photo or there'll be wife-ack in epic dimensions when he gets home.

The thread has been updated with some videos:
http://sukhoi.ru/forum/showpost.php?...4&postcount=22 Looks like there's still some room for optimization :-P Love the ground detail though (as far as it can be judged in a wobbly iPhone recording). |
Oh my, those vids are nice. The interface looks to be very intuitive.

That is the best update we ever had!! It looks so much better than all the individual parts. I want one! |
Quote:

One only Emil? Bf-109E-3?
Landscape seems to be much better. |
Quote:
What actually worries me is the fact that even the presentation machines seam to be unable to cope with the game. Some pretty major stutters in the last two videos. |
;) Not sure about the trees on the beach under the cliffs LOL :-)I know it's all WIP :-P
|
Looks bleeding gorgeous. That really looks like my dream sim.
Now the landscape and clouds just need a bit of tweaking and for me visual perfection will be reached. |
Nice windshield reflections !! ;) :grin::grin::grin:
http://sukhoi.ru/forum/attachment.ph...7&d=1288883711 Sry, I cannot reduce picture size, might someone teach me how? |

The videos... the frame rate went pretty low, but the landscape!
I feel very sad now, because 1) that looks too good 2) I don't have the money to buy a pc which runs that, as it seems the even the game developers don't have! |

Agree! best update EVARZ! Is the Walrus flyable? Anybody notice the question marked secret plane? Great stuff

Any info about the clouds? Are WIP or not? Seems excatly like in IL2.
|
Dornier on that screen! Please God (and Oleg) make the Dornier 17 flyable!
And I agree,best update so far! |
I would like to urge everybody who's worried about game performance to calm down. It's in a BETA state, for all we know they might not even have started optimizing the code yet. I have a ATI HD 4670 card "only" and have no plans whatsoever to upgrade until I've actually tried the game on my own computer. But thats just me
|
Quote:
Anyway it's a beta probably running debug code so there is no way to judge the final performance from that. |

i5 apparently: http://www.sukhoi.ru/forum/showpost....&postcount=109 |
Luthier complained on Sukhoi.ru about PCs config, they were leased to by fair owners. The problem is with the RAM, which is only 2GB, while min.requirement is 3GB. That is why it stutters over the ground (loads textures for ground and buildings).
|
Wow! I was looking at a PC with a similar spec. Crossed fingers it'd run the game nice and smooth with more RAM ;)
|

Gracias! |

Weren't you the guy who alway asked for more complicated graphics? Trees suck! Clouds suck! Fields, just wrong. And you seriously thought you can have all that and get away with such an eco pc? *still ROFL!* |
Wow that video with the 110 flying next to the cliffs was amazing! I am for sure going to have a blast just flying around in this sim, dogfighting will just be icing on the cake.
The cockpits look great, the shadows make it seem very realistic. The water and waves are great too. It's so nice to see hilly terrain, cliffs, just blows IL2 away. Like others my only nitpick is the clouds from those videos, but this is WIP, and we have no idea the graphic settings, weather effects used, or whatever, so I'm not concerned. The interface looks very nice too, major stepup from IL2. Well done Oleg and team! |
Quote:
Fields; improved textures and improved hedgerows. Trees; more rounded in shape to match English trees (but this seems to have been achieved). And there we have it. So yes, LOL, ROFL, scream with glee like a child all you want. I haven't asked for anything that can't be done with current systems. And an eco-PC? When did I say I wasn't looking at buying another PC that's better for SoW and using this one for work? I didn't, so before you get all excited, maybe you need to be a bit more logical before jumping to conclusions. Thanks. Back to the actual exciting news, and not jumping on forum members in order to spur argument. It's people like you that cause topics to go tits up. |
It would be nice that Oleg makes a business like Eagle Dinamics, a open beta paying it before(for the full game) ( but I wouldnt buy it because I like boxed version of Bob:sow if it is released)
|
Quote:
Definitely - yesterday. Quote:
So it's your work pc you want Sow to run smooth on? Plus the other game pc? Then why do you care about the first one? |

Now I'm not against these changes - in fact I'd welcome them - but there are no free meals, and you shouldn't assume that those are "simple tweaks". |

But my PC is gonna cope ok. Awesome update. I am so wound up I'll have to drink lots of beer to calm down. |

looking at the vids again...landscape looks much better to my eyes, the sea looks great but what caught my eye was how well the haze on the horizon looks :) plus the landscape seems to curve very well, blending the hills and fields very nicely.

I think I know where the pilot on the box is coming from, looks like the guy from Dark Blue World

But I'm just being pedantic, clearly. Not all of us are made of money, and I'm not some tech nerd. from what I could see, such a rig was quite good and from reviews i've read on overclockers, can run crysis maxed out etc. A year or two ago I had one chap try and convince me, on an Il-2 forum, that SoW would easily run on a gaming system of that time (this is pre DX11) His argument was that games nowadays are much better optimized for the current technology. Whether or not he is correct, at least SoW can run on such a system. I mean, the tweaks that I think need to be make are hardly groundbreaking. If a hedge was one object it could run with a higher fps than a few trees, and so if there were, say, a dozen hedges on screen, I can't see that causing a huge performance drop. As for clouds, well, in every sense the way the model would be changed to give a flat bottom would trim it of the excess at the base; thus making it smaller. This might cause more of a performance drop, but it's been done in other sims, and I can't see it being an issue... my point is that I'm not asking for the map to be littered with craters 30ft deep. These are just cosmetic details; they aren't groundbreaking. Anyway, I don't want to argue about this. I'm really enjoying watching the progress of this sim and tbh i don't care what you think about my opinions; or what you care about things I've said in the past. please, this is the internet, not real life; i have nothing to prove to you, so stop caring. |

Ah those models from Kent. |
No old boy, looks like somewhere gloomy up-north.

No, I'll probably be banned and told to step outside to remember what fresh air is :D
I never thought I'd have such a high post-count. It's because of the excitement of SoW (and also because I repeat myself quite alot) back on topic.... :o |
Very good news, but please, for the love of all that is good, stop posting images that are so huge. One image that has been posted twice here is over 2000 pixels wide. Show some respect for the other members here.

The He-59, Lysander and Autogyro appear to be missing as well.
I'm pretty sure the clouds are also WIP. Quote:
|
Is there any one location to view all video and images as they come? i think I've seen all the videos so far posted, but how does one know?
|

has been posted already.

Aye, but worthy of a repost in case anyone missed it ;)
It's times like this I wished I knew Russian. |

Google translate is only a poor substitute, but you can still get some interesting info between the noise. And Oleg has also posted some comments.
"When the bombing on the ground of each explosion formed a crater clearly. Explosions themselves are very beautiful. Elijah showed a layout machine-gun belts. From the presented set of historic ordnance can fill a tape completely independently of their wishes. Although the entire tape without tracers stuff." http://translate.googleusercontent.c...iRpbLnFZZJFgsA |
If it's really a geometric 3D crater I am so happy with it

3. How bots talk (I mean the sound)? ... As the guys have said - the sound of horseradish estimate - around a wild hullabaloo ... Hasn't stopped me wading through 15 pages worth of this crap though - looking for the next 'nugget' !! :) |
|
don't know if this has been put up yet - too much to keep track of today - another 'nugget':
When the bombing on the ground of each explosion formed a crater clearly. Explosions themselves are very beautiful.I take that to mean that there is choice regarding ammo belt configuration (?)! LINK: http://translate.google.com/translat...ate.google.com my head is obviously fried - Kraken posted this on the previous page - and I actually quoted his post in my last response! Time to log off! :) |

The water looks great in that video wow. Love the waves. Can't wait to see an angry sea in some bad weather. :) |
For those who missed it on the other thread, the reason things are a bit of slideshow over land were outlined the day before the expo by Luthier on the Sukhoi forum

anyway great landscape ciao |
Fantastic, and the best video of the terrain yet seen.
If it is this good WHY have they been showing us those flawed screenshots and stirring up all that debate for so long???!!! Easily surpasses any other flight sim that I've seen. and...perfect colours too |
