Yeah, he's propably doing this just because he CAN do it. That is, make threads like these and not get banned. I don't mean that you should get banned just for posting this kind of bullsh... ehm, content, but I'd like make a suggestion:

Xilon, please choose ONE of your threads (or make a new one lol) and name it: "Xilon's History of World War II And Things That Have To Be In SoW:BoB Because They Are Awesome".

Keep them coming, you are way too funny to be ignored :)

PS. Some of the videos are actually quite informative!

Xilon_x 09-04-2010 09:45 PM

Keep it up. There are enough bad attitudes these days that... well... I'm sicker of attitudes than videos about things I already know about...

Xilon_X is our Italian video producer that is in love with his country and world war II contributions, such as they were.

As long as the content is related to war, air combat or flight simulation he can post the stuff. That is a broad brush, but it's allowable.

I never watch the videos, but hey... no harm done. The harm comes when people get upset and start personally attacking him.

Actually, his posts probably aren't that big a deal. Afterall, everyone here is just lurking, posting every now and then, hoping for SOW news.

Kinda reminds me of friend, whose son is a 12 year old that is enjoying his newly learned hyper-linking prowess as he surfs on the internet.

I don't think it is missing. Better yet, I think it would have been a waste of time putting it in as it was used only in one battle and overall it was not successful.

Same goes for the 'super cannon' that was supposed to fire at London. IMO all this secret stuff is nice to talk about, but that's all. This should be reserved for some fictional FPS WW2 shooters, not serious simulations like SoW is trying to become. ;)

That big russian flying fortress looks cool but like it barely has enough power with those 50 engines to get off the ground so when it does taking out 1 engine looks like it would down it haha. Still its cool, is it suposed to be a WWII wannbe Russian attempt at a Mechwarrior era Dropship?

robday 09-20-2010 02:17 PM

With reference to the last video in Xilon's post, it's not an aircraft, it's an "Ekranoplan". Designed for the Soviet navy in the 1960's it was an attempt to develop a fast troop/assault transport. It "flew" in ground effect and never climbed much above 20 feet.

Xilon_x 09-20-2010 02:49 PM

yes sorry robday and all memebers the Russian EKRANOPLAN belongs at the time of the 60's years not WW2.

You can buy Ekranoplanes for private use in 2010. The Aussies make a smaller coastal one and the Russians sell several different types:

While the design is a bit quirky, I can think of a fair number of uses for a vehicle that can travel at this kind of speed over water and then remain on water when it arrives at it's destination - plus it runs on diesel or standard gasoline. Maybe you don't live in a coastal area?

max:
waves up to 1.2m, wind up to 7m/s

That's like buying car and have to keep in the garage on rainy days.

It's probably perfect for huge lakes(without wind). ;)

I think its probably marketed as a fast water taxi in which case 1.2 meter waves and 14 knot winds is reasonable.

Uh- no.

But I would want some reliable transportation, I could also use during bad weather(not in a hurricane, but...) - like a boat.

Rich?
This thing retails for about $520.000 plus another $12k for training per persona.

I sure can get a decent and fast boat for that.

bf-110 09-21-2010 10:27 PM

Coastal area...in Switzerland?

Blackdog_kt 09-21-2010 10:47 PM

Depending on design limitations and environment, ekranoplans could be used not only on water but also on ground, like a hovercraft. Of course you'd need relatively flat ground that lacks high rock formations or high vegetation, but maybe it would work in the Russian steppes and tundras, or as a fast transport in the arctic regions where a lot of water is frozen for a lot of time during each year.

I read on a local military affairs magazine that Russia is thinking of getting new ekranoplans around 2012.
The interesting thing is that some of the newly proposed designs are not strictly ground effect vehicles but also have normal wings, in order to allow them to transition to normal flight for short periods of time for clearing obstacles.

ITALIAN SECRET ARMY (DEATH RAY) original document from italia secret service organization O.V.R.A.
http://centroufologicotaranto.files....elegr03oq2.jpg

In June of 1936 Marconi demonstrated to Italian Fascist dictator Benito Mussolini a wave gun device that could be used as a defensive weapon.

Mussolini was quite pleased with Marconi's invention. However, it is said that Pope Pius XI learned about the paralyzing rays and took steps to have Mussolini stop Marconi's research.
According to Marconi's followers, Marconi then, after faking his own death, took his yacht to South America in 1937.

The real problem with the B-26 was the landing gear was garbage, so you ended up with about a 2mph speed range between the stall speed, and the max landing speed. That's a large part of the reason the last flyable one crashed in 95.
