Publisher etc... Info instead of images for the friday update? ;)
Hi Oleg and team!
All is nice and dandy now and we get regular updates that look better and better... It feels like its getting close to beta now which is great! If that is true, is it not time to spread the word so we get to hear about the game somewhere else than here in the "IL-2 Sturmovik" forum on 1C? Most of the potential customers have no idea that this game is being developed. The couple of thousand geeks here in this forum will unfortunately not make you beat the MS Flight Sim X sales figures - or dust that new crap (?) FS title they are brewing in Redmond :) Marketing is naturally the responsibility of the publisher but is it possible to give us any information about who is going to publish the game etc - or is it to early? I guess 1C will publish it in Russia? There is no information at all available about the game being in development at http://www.1cpublishing.eu ? Is there maybe some info on the Russian 1C site? Anything you can share about a western publisher? Regards /Mazex |
Any info about SOW would be great.
|
Seriously guys IMHO SOW is still a long way off hitting the shelves, there is nothing that we have seen so far that suggest a release is forthcoming. However the work being done is superb and im sure it will all be well worth the wait.

I hope he's wrong, because delivery as late as he suggests might mean non-delivery, but I do now believe he's sincere. |

Before a release you will see announcements like "going gold" and "beta testing" as well as seeing game reviews out on internet.. When we get this far then the release date will also be announced I'm sure.
|
It would be nice to see some sort of info as to when a release is likely. The old estimated timeframe of the battle of Britain anniversary looks improbable.
|
 Well they've missed the 70th B o B commemorative period now so if they have any business sense they need/MUST get MAJOR advertising out in Oct to build up for Christmas. There is a recession on and spending power is going to be hit hard.If someone can only afford 1 item then this lot will be struggling for sales.
If they don't start announcing or showing more progress soon i fear they will miss out big time. |

Ubisoft have made it clear in a recent published interview that they will only be handling existing tripple A titles (Assasin's Creed etc) for the near future and will not be publishing any new products.
They burnt their fingers with Silenthunter 5 and their CEO stressed "It is better to invest in an existing successful title than to risk money on five or six new titles with very little chance of recovering your money." So Ubisoft are out. (Something most of us have known for a while.) So who else is big enough to risk money on a new flight sim. Obviously 1C in Russia, but in the west we have few big players left. EA Games is most likely the best bet. |
Still a long way to go yet. As a close observer of Maddox Games for more than a decade, This time next year is my reasoned estimate.
|
Why do people get uspet at Tree's posts? I agree with him, but he is only making an educated guess. Until an official statement, we can only estimate at our own will.
peronsally, I know I'll see the sim one day, but I'd love it to be a polished release, rather than a game rushed to the shelves. Either way I'll buy it and play it :-P |

I'm suspecting Oleg and crew has a nice bank account filled with some spare cash. Companies have gone under not being able to get products to the market.. Some thing will have to happen before the bank account runs dry. So the question is how long Oleg and crew can hold out releasing the product from a business point of view.. I'm sure the crew is not working for bred and water, only Oleg will do that! ;) At the same time, I wonder how much is coming in to Olegs bank account from other titles, BoP, IL2 etc.. ? Maybe that's enough to keep the ship from sinking for a conciderable future? We all know Olegs passion for perfection, I suspect if Oleg would be the almighty gawd we would never see the game in our life time because Oleg would always have some thing else on the list to get done before it's ready. :D

Not to mention il2 1946 is still on sale :) |
Tree, like Cassandra of Troy, is cursed with the gift of prophecy.
And like Cassandra, Tree is cursed so that none will believe him. |

Publisher wise I think 1c may have fallen out with Ubisoft because they released Heroes over the Pacific on consoles instead of BoP. The Apache game is published by Activision.. It could be anyone!? |
Actually, I don't believe Oleg made any money from sales of BoP. A package price of a agreed amount that was paid in the beginning for permission to use engine or code seems much more likely to me. Any further than that Gaijin can do what they want.

PS3 version has Maddox Games and 1c staff mentioned in the manual, they could have been on a royalties/licence deal? then again maybe that's why WoP was released. That was BoP v2 and seemed to come out of nowhere. Might have been a money gathering exercise. I just hope that whoever publishes SoW understands that people are passionate about Flight sims. We've all got some emotional attachment to the subject matter in SoW (just by being a member of this forum shows that), which is one of the reasons why people get so heated in here! We want a publisher who's in it for the long term, and are willing to let the title grow organically instead of the usual 'game every 12-18 months, sequal syndrome cash cowing approach' of most publishers. 1c need to get worldwide! |

I would be surprised if 777 Studios don't make a bid to be the publisher.
|
To be honest I think SoW BoB will be published via 1C, period. The day Oleg and Ubi split, was probably the day Oleg went for auto financing via 1C revenues, from IL2 and the other games they publish, so that he could have the pressure from Ubi or other "outside house" publishers off his back. Makes no sense now to bring a stranger back into the deal if you see what I mean?

However...a group like 777 could help to expand SoW in different directions which could, quite simply, be awesome. |

Exactly...just a game....which we know will be released one day.
That's all I need to know ;) Tree can make as many guesses he likes; it's just harmless fun :-P |
Yeah, I think I'd read about this somewhere, though it may have got snowed under with all the rumours and guesswork that circulates.
Of course, if I wanted to play Devil's advocate (Who? Me?), I could suggest that even if Ubisoft weren't involved at the time, it doesn't mean they aren't now. Unlikely though, given what they've been saying lately. Time will tell... |
I believe what Tree says.
Luthier's site does say that his Porject Galba (spelling?) will be published by Ubisoft though.... |

More conspiracy:
Remember Luthier went to LA some time ago? Activision is based in CA. LOL. |
