Airshows
As it's summer and the season for airshows I thought I'd post a thread whereby you can post details of upcoming airshows.
Don't know if anyone is up my neck of the woods this weekend but it's the 10th Windermere Airshow. http://www.windermereairshow.co.uk/ Highlights include the Red Arrows, BoB memorial flight, aerostar yak team and breitling wing walkers. It's great for photography as the fells and lakes provide a fantastic backdrop.....when it ain't raining!!! Edit: just found the following links to highlights of last years show presented by my mate Kim! http://www.lakestv.net/lakestv-loadp...type=highwinds http://www.lakestv.net/lakestv-loadp...type=highwinds |
Up here in the Pacific Northwest there are two coming up I can think of.
North of the border the great Abbotsford International Airshow/Canada's National Airshow http://www.abbotsfordairshow.com And a smaller more local show South of the border in Arlington, just north of Seattle. http://www.arlingtonflyin.org/ |

You'll be getting the Spitfire, Hurricane, Dakota from the BBMF this year over the weekend of the 24th/25th july. 8th August we've got the BBMF (Lancaster/Spitfire/Hurricane) Red Arrows and others i cant think of from memory here at Blackpool performing on the sea front. Makes for some good viewing!! Checking the BBMF's display chart... we wont see them here in Blackpool when they do your display because the same three aircraft are performing in Sunderland on the 25th after displaying at Windemere....so they will be refueling and overnight stay at Carlisle more than likely. |
And if you get to see the Vulcan Bomber...... wow!!! That thing is incredible!! Loud is an understatement.

i think he just stalled, and of course being that close to the ground couldnt dump the nose to gain enough air speed before he'd hit the ground so bailed.
|
It was part of the display routine though, was just a practise run wasnt it?
Point being, the pilot had done this move many times before and had logged up a huge amount of flying hours in this particular aircraft. Right now all anyone can do really is speculate until the crash is looked into some more. |

Not this year but last year my mate was on the lake when this happened http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mZJL0...=youtube_gdata |
Being unable to attend any airshows this year due to work, it was a pleasure to see a P-51 quite casually flying over Falmouth town this morning. Since then, he's done another fly-by...can't mistake that sound, can you?
Probably in the area for the RNAS Culdrose airshow, so I'll keep an eye out for more. |
Anybody going to the Airshow in Atlanta GA. Oct. 16-17?
Snowbirds will be there along with the blue angels. |
They heard 3 loud pops right before the plane dipped to the right...Probably an engine stall, just like that Vid of a Mig-29. U can actually here some loud cracking sounds in the vid posted on the first page, right before he looses it.
I always like to look on the bright side. We know Russian seats can save a pilots butt doing this kinda stuff, and now we know our American seats Can also:) Great reaction time by the pilot. I probably would have been toast. |
these are from Leuchars last year ........ just looooove the noise of the vulcan its just epic!!!!

on a sad note:
Juergen Baetz Berlin — The Associated Press Published on Sunday, Sep. 05, 2010 1:31PM EDT A pilot of a small propeller-driven plane lost control of his aircraft while taking off at a flight show in southern Germany and crashed into a group of spectators Sunday, leaving one person dead and 33 injured, police said. The crash occurred at the Lillinghof airfield about 30 kilometres northeast of the city of Nuremberg, a police spokesman said. Four people were seriously injured, while 29 others were slightly injured, he said. The spokesman, who declined to be named in line with department policy, said it was still unknown why the pilot of the biplane — with two wings, one above the other — lost control. The pilot was not hurt in the incident, he said. The flight show was to include stunts by small aircraft and sky divers, helicopter tours and tours with a Russian-built Antonov An-2 biplane, a program posted on the Lauf flight association's website said. our condolences for the family of the deceased...and best wishes for the speedy recovery of the others.. |
