Broken disc

§%&$¿#§¥

And many other bad words.. My copy of il2 has done it's job. About 15mm crack in the center of the disc. Even i've used it with a silky gloves the crack is getting more lenght. Now I have to search new copy of this console game of the decade. And it's not easy here in Finland. Hopefully i'll find it somewhere. So far what i've checked delivery time is from 2 to 4 weeks. Oh F***

Well, one positive thing is that I really don't even have time to play now. And it's summer, so now I can give more time to flyfishing e.g.

So it has finally happened...remember you worried about that crack going worse. Your warbirds grounded with broken engines, missing parts, stuck in the mud, etc...

Anyway, should you still need it, help is available here. They do ship to Finland within 8-12 days.

Happy flyfishing and hope to see you soon!

Yes, well i'll have to check nearest gamestores first. They aren't so far, only 130km to one direction :). But what wouldn't I do for this game.

Thanks for taking care Mac. See you soon buddy.

How come it broke? You made it spin too much inside the ps3?

p.s.: what's the plane on your signature? nazi buffalo?

I'm not sure how did it crack. One day I just noticed that there is little crack from center and now it's getting longer and my ps3 can hardly read it. And I wont put that in ps3 anymore cause i'm afraid that it will split two in ps.

It's Buffalo, but not nazi, finnish air force emblem was swastika too, but it was not standing on tip and it was other way around compared with nazi swastika. Emblem was replaced because it was easily mixed with nazi swastika.

Oh, thanks for explaining me! Yes it can be easily confused with swastika!

See you soon mage!

This the second time I've heard of this happening. F1rebrand suffered exactly the same a few months back- I think he posted about it but I'm unable to locate the post. He had to resort to a new copy as well sadly- 505 and their bio-degradable discs!!!

vdomini 07-05-2010 01:30 PM

I have discovered that after playing several hours with ps3, it became very hot inside, also heateing up the discks like a pizza.

Maybe ejecting the hot disc can damage it due very different temperature between inside and outside. Uhm i have to be carefull, maybe i'll buy a backup copy of this game, i've seen some 2nd hand copyes of il2 at store near my house, around... 15 euro each...

Zatoichi_Sanjuro 07-05-2010 02:03 PM

Probably the crappy three-pin holding ring in the case. Battlefield: BC2 has the proper twin-pin ring that's much easier on the disc.

That could be one reason, it's very tight.

Good luck with finding a replacement!

Never a truer word....!!!!

sandiego2003 07-06-2010 01:15 PM

My disk cracked too within 3 months of purchase. It was still under the warranty period as stated in the game's manual. Amazon.com, where I purchased it, replaced it for free. I would have bought the game again if I had to.

Jim di Griz 07-06-2010 08:16 PM

It's not just Sturmovik folks - I had to send a copy of Dirt 2 back to Play yesterday with exactly the same problem as this. I hope they honour the returns policy as the game is less than a month old.

My experience, the same kind of crack was suddenly there meaning the game wouldn't even load. Like the original poster, I was always careful, not a smear left on it, let alone a scratch of any kind on the surface.

I'd say it looks like dodgy materials are being used, or a bad batch of discs were supplied to the different companies.

I hope this kind of problem gets nipped in the bud before it becomes a more common problem...

winny 07-06-2010 09:22 PM

The soultion is to never let your discs 'click' into the case, press the holder down as you put the disc back in.

(just watch how someone who works in Gamestation or blockbuster does it..they are professionals and have recieved extensive training in disc insertion!.. probably.)

Jim di Griz 07-07-2010 02:39 AM

Now I have an image of some specialist tutor somewhere, a butler type with impeccable white gloves, touring the country to train the staff of various stores...

I suppose this is the disadvantage of buying online. In the meantime, I shall endeavour to depress the pins correctly each time. Good tip.

WHAT
THE
HELL!!!!!!

Yesterday night, frowned and scared about those disck breacking, i've checked my copy of il2 and....

I DO HAVE THE CRACK CURSE TOO!!!!

Awwwwww... i was so sad and scared!!! But lucky the crack is very light and cd fully readable!!!

SOLUTION:
1) I will buy a used back up copy of il2 strumovik.
2) I will keep playing the game but i'll place the cd in something like a soft cd container...

Be very careful, I read from the finnish console gaming forum, that due the disc spins real fast there is danger, that the disc will go and split in two inside your ps3, or crack more and do some damage to your console.

I'm not taking any risk's for that. So now i'm waiting my new copy. And I ordered usb- hard drive too, so I can take a backup of my ps3.

Sorry to revisit the issue and scare you some more, but it looks like the users Mage was talking about might have been correct. I did think that maybe it was just another urban legend thingy, like the one about the CD-ROMs shattering some years ago, but apparently not...

The issue has been around almost a year and has cropped up on a few forums here being one and a post from another, less useful site:

"Definitely. The risk of shattering discs is lower for DVDs (and I assume for Blu-Rays too) than for CDs since they don't reach quite the same ridiculous rotational speeds but they're still spun pretty fast. A crack could lengthen until it reaches breaking point and then BANG! the disc fails and becomes shards of plastic embedded inside your very expensive paperweight.

However if you really want to play it, you could try and get one of the hub-strengthening stickers places like video shops use."

Tread carefully people

Finally I have a new copy of the bop. Actually delivery was much faster than I expected. And the cost wasn't so bad either, under 22 pound's from amazon it's about 28 euro's I think, here it would cost 50 euro's or more. So thanks again for tip Mac.

See you guys soon.

MACADEMIC 07-15-2010 07:26 PM
