Touching scene's you've seen with aircraft

Was a bit bored earlier today and decieed to look up a few clips on youtube of whatever took my fancy and came across one i've seen many times before, it got me thinking.... We all enjoy air displays now days and the purr of the engines, they are their to get our imagination going etc. But has any particular display or flight actually touched you and made you think about things etc?

This one gets me -

To go up and do that after seeing a pilot lose his life when his Hurricane crashed is a brave thing to do and shows alot of respect. Emotions and feelings must of been all over the place. Quite moving i find.

What about you guys? Would love to see how we all differ/agree/share the same views on this type of thing.

A touching moment would have to be when the rookies B-17 is taken out in Mephis Belle.
@FOZ, I dont want to worry you but they dont look like Hurricanes to me?

Their Spitfires. They did the missing man formation at the shoreham airshow a couple of years ago after a 109 and a Hurricane were doing a mock dogfight, something went wrong and the Hurricane fell out of the sky and crashed into a field killing the pilot. Straight after the crash, all the Spitfires that were at the display all took off and flew the missing man formation. Quite moving i thought.

Also in mephis belle, i know the scene. Mother and country gets taken out when a 109 cuts right through the fuselage after getting shot down by the co piloy who was in the rear turret and you hear them screaming over the radio.

Good choices guys, keep them coming.

Christian Bale? Amazing! In the Werner Herzog Movie 'Rescue Dawn' Bale plays American Pilot Dieter Dengler who was shot down in Vietnam. In one scene Bale describes how, as a child in Germany, he witnessed the flyby of a P51 with open canopy and the pilot waving at him after an attack, which made Dengler want to become a pilot.

Quite taken by the fact that Bale played exactly that scene as a child actor (which I didn't know he was). Thanks for putting that up. Great great actor.

that is actually kind of funny that he made that reference in another movie. when i reviewed that clip i knew the kid's face looked familar but couldnt place it. so i looked it up and was surprised it was bale. i thought he emerged like way later...guess not.

How about these?

Thirty Seconds over Tokyo

The Hunters

My best friend was killed while flying Apaches in Iraq. As Taps were being played at the funeral service, his squadron flew a missing man formation over the cemetary. That's one airshow I will never forget.

Now if they could only make a proper movie about Malta, like they did with The Battle of Britain, they'd be set with some of the best air combat campaigns made into movies. They'd probably CGI the hell out of it, but if they did it right, it might work?

Vulcan607 06-21-2010 07:04 AM

Pretty much this whole film

The bit that affects me more is when the Station CO takes John Lithgow's character to his office and makes him read the letters sent by relatives of the aircrews that have died. When it cuts to the black and white footage, I always get a lump in my throat...........

BRIGGBOY 06-21-2010 09:29 AM

for me i think it is the scene at the end of saving private ryan when the tiger tank is crossing the bridge and is about to run over john (tom hanks). then you hear the sound of the p51 and its like yeah take that you nazi fck. for some reason that scene sets me off like a baby

Ratman91101 06-21-2010 01:55 PM

Missing man formation

My most unforgettable flying formation was the missing man formation flown for my son with F-15 Eagles in the spring of 04.He was killed outside Bazrha in Iraq. The formation flew as we proceeded to the cemetery.

P-51 06-21-2010 02:14 PM

I don't think I'll look at an f-15 in the same way.. Sorry to hear that though.

bobbysocks 06-21-2010 04:28 PM

I am so sorry for your loss Ratman. God bless him and all the boys from any nation that put themselves in harms way that we may be safe and free.

flynlion 06-21-2010 05:26 PM

Sorry for your loss Ratman. Far too many Americans believe that war is something that only happens to other people thousands of miles away, but we know different. My buddy Pat died in a helicopter crash near Mosul, also in 2004. I would dearly love to fly with him again. 2004 was a bad year.
