Nvidia and AA ::SOLVED
Hi.
Having set all parameters as suggested in various threads I´ve found a great looking asetup for my Il-1946. One problem though.. I can´t get the AA to work. I go into my 3D settings in my Nvidia menu and browse to my 1946 folder. When I select the Il2fb.exe, it becomes "Il Sturmovik Forgotten Battles and Ace expansion pack" in my Nvidia drop-down menu. But any changes to this .exe will not be seen in the game.... (If I press ctrl+alt+del and get up the active processes, the active .exe is called il2fb.exe .... but whenever I chose this, it renames it to "Il Sturmovik Forgotten Battles..." in the Nvidia setup..... Any clues here? /Johan |
Why do you need Ace Expansion pack?
You mentioned you have IL2 -1946, which means you have the all inclusive CD of all of IL2 since it has been released. You need 4.0x series patches to update IL2-1946 |
Yes, I used to have the FB+Aces+PF pack installed, but I uninstalled it... And still my Nvidia calls the Il2fb.exe (as named in my 1946 folder) "Forgotten Battles bla bla bla..."

"Override any application setting" is the key.
If you chose "enhance application setting" or any other option, FSAA won't be activated ingame. |
Ok guys, I´ve turned off (to global) any setting in the Il-menu and set the global AA to override any app. and 8xQ mode. Still no luck...
|
Are you running a fresh installation or did you upgrade your drivers at any point?
If you didn't clean your registry from remains of previous driver-settings, it's possible that you will not be able to actually save your changes (even though it may look like it). I recommend nHancer. You can download this tool for free and once installed you can override any setting, no matter if there is a conflict with older driver-settings or not. You can also fine-tune some options with quick access. |
I recommend you don't install any 3rd party NV tools at the moment :)
These can cause more problems especially if there's a driver fault. Post your IL2 1946 v409m conf. file contents here please . Meanwhile download the latest NV driver and also Driver Sweeper http://www.guru3d.com/category/driversweeper/ Use as per instructions and clean the driver up. Install latest or preferred driver, then pop back here :) |
Thanx for your input guys... The thing is, I´m a VERY frequent user of FS9, which is VERY sensitive to Nvidia driver updates.
I´d rather not update the drivers at the moment, since I´ve had tons of trouble with FS9 every time I´ve tried that... Current driver is 182.50 I´ve also tried to override stuff with Nhancer, but no luck there either.. Here´s the config.. Quote:

Good idea to make a new account for this post.

Assuming you are running under Open GL and not Dx
Try these settings [Render_OpenGL] TexQual=3 TexMipFilter=1 TexCompress=0 TexFlags.UseDither=0 TexFlags.UseAlpha=0 TexFlags.UseIndex=0 TexFlags.PolygonStipple=0 TexFlags.UseClampedSprites=0 TexFlags.DrawLandByTriangles=1 TexFlags.UseVertexArrays=1 TexFlags.DisableAPIExtensions=0 TexFlags.ARBMultitextureExt=1 TexFlags.TexEnvCombineExt=1 TexFlags.SecondaryColorExt=1 TexFlags.VertexArrayExt=1 TexFlags.ClipHintExt=0 TexFlags.UsePaletteExt=0 TexFlags.TexAnisotropicExt=0 TexFlags.TexCompressARBExt=1 TexFlags.TexEnvCombine4NV=1 TexFlags.TexEnvCombineDot3=1 TexFlags.DepthClampNV=1 TexFlags.SeparateSpecular=1 TexFlags.TextureShaderNV=1 HardwareShaders=1 Shadows=2 Specular=2 SpecularLight=2 DiffuseLight=2 DynamicalLights=1 MeshDetail=2 VisibilityDistance=3 Sky=2 Forest=2 LandShading=3 LandDetails=2 LandGeom=2 TexLarge=1 TexLandQual=3 TexLandLarge=1 VideoSetupId=17 Water=3 Effects=1 ForceShaders1x=0 PolygonOffsetFactor=-0.15 PolygonOffsetUnits=-3.0 |
Hi Alpha:
Will the settings of my conf.ini be better if I change something? Quote:

Roger that Alpha. I´ll try it out and get back. /Johan |

The settings I posted are for Nvidia You have an ATI by the look of it. |

Got today the MSI 480GTX for test. Ran quickly IL-2 Black Death and must say the card is good. Results I got were the following at 1920x1200, 32-bit, V-Sync Off etc. Maximum: 316fps Minimum: 37fps Average: 125fps Still need to set and tweak as setting this Supersampling to 8x for example brought IL-2 to a crawl. But will test more, and the AA works, just override application setting and set whatever you want. |

Umm....:? That´s kind of the issue we are discussing in this thread... That some of us (I at least) are not able to get AA to work.... @Alpha: Tried your settings, and it looks the same. And still no response to any changes made in Nvidia. |
S!
I am using the latest WHQL's from nVidia and they work just fine. Did a profile where I set settings I desired and tested on IL-2. No problems at all. To Alpha. Why do you have bilinear texture filtering and no anisotropic filter in on in your conf.ini? Lines TexMipFilter=1 and TexAnisotropicExt=0. Also why have the DrawLandByTriangles=1 when this was for older cards to get more performance..if I recall right. I use 0. Or do you override settings with Control Panel thus these selections? |

If Win7 Turn off UAC and try again. |

I really wonder why this is not working... Setting the global settings to AA override, like you said, should do the trick... But it doesn´t.. |
Personally I would take Feuerfalke's advice and download nhancer, its an excellent package and allows you to tweak almost anything. If you get it let me know and i will give you my settings.
|
Have you tried to reset the nvidia drivers to default settings, or even reinstalling them?
Worth trying if you can't resolve this by other means I think. There is absolutely no reason to fiddle with nchancer or even install it to get AA to work in Il2. If you're desperate and want a quick and dirty :P , brute force solution try Humus' GLOveride: http://www.humus.name/index.php?page=Cool Quote:

If you have Tir 5 the new drivers stop AA working apparently.

Also a small note for you guys. If using ASUS M4A79T Deluxe motherboard, do NOT update BIOS above version 3004. The version 3107 porks your system. My system went from a working one to a crawling turtle: programs starting VERY slowly, IL2 frame rates down to 20fps and so on, stuttering and all that. Readme stated the BIOS would ONLY add support for the new CPU's but seems it also turns your rig to a dia projector..ARGHS! Back to topic. Only gripe I have with nVidia 480GTX so far is the worse quality of AA. In IL2 there are jaggies on rivers which I did not have on ATI, even I use high AA + supersampling. Supersampling kills IL2 framerate effectively as well. But otherwise the card has performed well. |
Try this
Not Jaggies on my 480GTX [Render_OpenGL] TexQual=3 TexMipFilter=3 TexCompress=0 TexFlags.UseDither=1 TexFlags.UseAlpha=0 TexFlags.UseIndex=0 TexFlags.PolygonStipple=0 TexFlags.UseClampedSprites=0 TexFlags.DrawLandByTriangles=0 TexFlags.UseVertexArrays=1 TexFlags.DisableAPIExtensions=0 TexFlags.ARBMultitextureExt=1 TexFlags.TexEnvCombineExt=1 TexFlags.SecondaryColorExt=1 TexFlags.VertexArrayExt=1 TexFlags.ClipHintExt=0 TexFlags.UsePaletteExt=0 TexFlags.TexAnisotropicExt=1 TexFlags.TexCompressARBExt=0 TexFlags.TexEnvCombine4NV=1 TexFlags.TexEnvCombineDot3=1 TexFlags.DepthClampNV=1 TexFlags.SeparateSpecular=1 TexFlags.TextureShaderNV=1 HardwareShaders=1 Shadows=2 Specular=2 SpecularLight=2 DiffuseLight=2 DynamicalLights=1 MeshDetail=2 VisibilityDistance=3 Sky=2 Forest=3 LandShading=3 LandDetails=2 LandGeom=3 TexLarge=1 TexLandQual=3 TexLandLarge=1 VideoSetupId=17 Water=4 Effects=2 ForceShaders1x=0 PolygonOffsetFactor=-0.15 PolygonOffsetUnits=-3.0 |
S!
Will do Alpha :) Thanks! What are your drivers (using 195.75 atm) and nVidia Control Panel settings for IL2? Trying to resolve this strange issue with my motherboard, latest BIOS cut the frame rate effectively to less than a 1/3rd of what it was :( I've tried factory defaults etc and nothing helps. |
Driver 197.75
I have pretty much the same settings as in the screen shot I posted in this thread. One problem is the Vsync isn't working, I'm at full frame rates and the tearing is annoying for me. |
S!
Will give your settings a try, thanks again. Still struggling with my motherboard and it seems the buggy BIOS is behind all this. |
Well, like I wrote in an earlier post: I have already tried Nhancer. I´ve had it for a couple of years.
I don´t really see what a re-installation of my driver would do (other than causing trouble), so I´d rather not. I´ll check out the GLOverride and report back. |
The GLOverride did it!!!!!! AA finally working!!!
Many thanx Luffe, and all you guys for your input!:eek::eek: |
I'm having the same problem with AA not working, and it did seem to have something to do with TiR5, but the problem wasn't consistent. I'll have a look at GLOverride.
|

Yeah, I also have TrackIR 5.. forgot to mention that, I got so excited when I finally got the AA working... :) |
Having trouble with using GLOverride. How do you install it? And to confirm, when I start the game with TiR5 running, no AA. Start without it, and AA works normally. Something change with the TiR drivers?
|
S!
Alpha, tested and tweaked a bit :) Works fine! But Effects=2 just causes buggy effects and major FPS hit so I left it on 1. Otherwise very nice :) And still I use Water=0 if I go online. |
Quote:
As for GLOverride... there are instructions, right..? ;) You place the two files in your 1946 Main folder.. Then open the text file (of the two) and change what you what... (eg. ForceMSAAMode = 4)... The .dll then does the work for you when you launch.. |
Thanks Cap'n. I did that, to no effect. But I did solve the problem.
Trackir5 was clearly my problem. When I would start the game without it, AA worked normally. Start the game with it and no AA. I reinstalled Tir4, and no problems with it and AA. I emailed NaturalPoint to let them know, so we'll see what happens. It's nice to have AA again! |

Testing on stock. Flying 2.01 as I can not stand the original Bf109 cockpits ;) They are hideous after you see Der Wüstenfuchs's new ones :D And Anto/JapanCat did great job on updating the 3D model of the Bf109 too, finally the cockpit framing is closer to real and general shape of the plane is not a Lego block anymore :D But thanks again for the tip, gonna give Stock a run ;) PS! Seems the MSI 480GTX has settled on about 48-50'C idle temperature and after IL-2 to about 70-78'C. Could get it lower if I ramped up the cooling fan speeds on the computer case but not really an option as I do not want a vacuum cleaner in the bedroom :D |
As you know, I have an MSI 480GTX also.
I have never had high temps or excessive noise. |
