Air battle/bombing run

bobbysocks 04-27-2010 06:50 PM

scottyvt4 04-27-2010 08:26 PM

sh*t sorry PS3 :( my bad

Gilly 04-28-2010 11:33 AM

Sounds like a plan Scotty, count me in. McQ was just talking about doing something similar the other night. Will talk to you next time we catch each other in the skies!

Shadowcorp 04-28-2010 11:39 AM

count me in, happy to take on any of the roles bomber or fighter

McQ59 04-28-2010 11:57 AM

Tally-ho lads!

Yo scotty. I love the idea! Was writing to Gilly here the other day that it would be a blast to round up some of the guys and see if they wanted to take out the He-111 and line them up at Manston to strife them with spits/hurrys. And then switch roles the next mission. Would love to have some pics of that scene!

Anyway... I'm in! Any role. Any plane. No problem.

I may be on later this evening, but certainly on friday and saturday evening.

Luftwaffe_Rommel 04-28-2010 12:30 PM

The game is on the PS3 When

hi scotty, I tried to recruit people for this kind of battle a while back but didn't work for several reasons. Regardless of that, I would like to take part on this deadly mission either as bomber or fighter. Can you also include the bf 109 G-6, I love it, especially when going after bombers of any kind. It has earn me many victories in strike.

By the way is this going to be arcade, realistic or simulator, I'm in for all even if I still have problems in realistic/simulator.

can you post the day and time of the missions. I don't know where u r so is hard to coordinate.

What's ur PSN user name, Add me as ur friend for this match
my user name is "Luftwaffe_Rommel"

PS I can only go online on Thursdays and Fridays, rarelly weekends. I hope this doesn't discualify me or anything.

Luftwaffe_Rommel 04-28-2010 12:36 PM

a question for u my friend

Is it worth trying something over the weekend? If nothing other than a reccy run?

McQ59 04-29-2010 09:15 AM

I'm on for the weekend. My experience is that this kind of missions take a few days to plan, good coms in the lobby and a cpl of tablespoons raw patience. You know... Theres allways this 1 (one) player that don't get the drift and flies a LA 7 or whatever...

So if u'r on scotty I'm more than willing to get shot up in a Heinkel. (I got more than my share of newtorn @$$holes after the dogfight with Gilly & bmanace last night. A few more or less don't matter :-)

Gilly 04-29-2010 10:31 AM

Agree completely McQ, there's always one! Chances are though if we get people organised on here we should minimise the risk of 'flyboys' gatecrashing the party... Then again there's enough of us to effectively 'police' our own airspace ( for 'police' read kill lots.... and lots!) should we get the odd idiot. I think year restrictions should stop most of the bull from happening anyway.
As for what to fly I as comfortable flying a spit or one of those german coffin's.

dkwookie 04-29-2010 10:42 AM

If this is a weekend schedule I will be in. Don't mind flying a german plane.

scottyvt4 04-29-2010 03:23 PM

that would be good for the next one!!!

was really good needs some refinement lol the 2 hurries were a lil exposed and some the spits were attaking the bombers but all in all good for a first try at this imo. We chased the "hun" out as far a dover harbour. well played to all.

t'was a sore day for the raf :( despite the Gerries losing 2 players one quit and Kav got disconnected, we got defeted!! we will defo have another go at it.

KAV 05-02-2010 04:29 PM

This was awsome, as long as it lasted.
I reached 3 bomb runs on the Cathedral before, I belive it was Scotty, downed me. On my return to Manston, the mean Internet Gods decided to **** with my connection again :evil::evil:

I will be up for the next run to avange my disconnection......

dkwookie 05-02-2010 07:43 PM

Gutted I got delayed and missed the bomb run. Couple good scraps after though. Really missing not being able to get online more

scottyvt4 05-02-2010 07:48 PM

Kav - i thougtht that had happened to you, i think i managed to down you and had a great tussle with gilly after that while being shot from behind, sh*t loads opposite rudder but succumed to my injuries and had to bail. Lol im sure gilly must have been thinking die die die hahahaha!!!!!

we will prob arrange this type of game for t'weekend to keep everyone in the loop ;)

McQ59 05-03-2010 08:52 AM

Great bombrun guys! That was really fun.

Sad u was disconnected Kav. We lost LargeElk too before we landed at Manston, but all in all it was a really succesfull attack on the Canterbury cathedral and the radarstation at Dover. Gilly and Kav blew the cathedral to gravel, and the fighters really did a great job om the spits and hurrys...

Let's develop this guys!

winny 05-03-2010 12:15 PM

I had a great time, managed to get a couple of the HE-111s and a 109.

Canterbury Cathedral was a burning wreck at the end of the game.

1-0 to the Germans...

Gilly 05-04-2010 12:03 PM

Top fun! Best laugh I've had in ages!
I think with a little more refinement these type of things cod be a really great alternative to the current online missions. The idea of seperating the opposing forces and then 'meeting' up in the target area worked really well.
Cheers to all involved for a top laugh

winny 05-04-2010 02:24 PM

I have a suggestion for next time, do it in Dogfight mode.

This would give us the chance to lock onto friendlys to keep together more and would also mean that you'd have to choose your targets so it would add a bit of confusion, more realistic.

Other than that I thought it was a great way to play

Any thoughts?

Shadowcorp 05-04-2010 02:38 PM

Agreed flying formations in dogfight is a damn sight easier than any of the team games
The only potential probelm there is interlopers refusing to play by the rules....
Fill the room quick you shouldn't have any probelms

What we did was set up a private room, more slots than we have players (just in case) and then we dont have to worry about strays.

For mass formation etc and "realism" dogfights was preffered as you didnt have the big "red/blue" bands around the fuselage and wings.

Only issue was the AI gunners on bombers etc. Easy enough to deal with though, just find yourself some free space away from anyone and then dispose of all your ammo (make sure limited ammo is on).

Hey presto you got some great flying coming up.

Only problem with this is bomber auto-gunners will shoot each other both friendly and enemy!!!!

I'll shut up..

Gilly 05-04-2010 11:14 PM

One thing I did think was use a CTA or Strike map and the radar signature is no longer present until within range....just to maybe add stealth tactics into future games!

KAV 05-05-2010 08:27 AM

Thats cool, but then again we will be having those ugly red and blue stripes making any pics look awfull.......

That works vertically too.. If you're up at 16,000 ft and everyone else is down around 2,00 then you can fly over them without appearing on thier radar.

We could give the Germans 5-7 mins to get up high, 3 or 4 possible targets (just pick towns/airfields) and when the Germans fly over the coast the RAF boys have to scramble and intercept... Might work.

(Edit) What about having the Hurri's at one airfield and the Spits at another one.. You can't scramble till the radar picks the Germans up?

buelligan 05-06-2010 12:55 AM

I like the sound of all this! looks like alot of fun, if there is any space in the lobby I would really like to get involved, will definately be checking this thread daily for any updates, will also send friend requests out to all posters and hope to meet you all in the skies soon.

Gilly 05-07-2010 09:14 AM

Anyone fancy trying this again this weekend? Similar time to last weeks?

McQ59 05-07-2010 09:48 AM

Deff mate! I'll be on with Mini-McQ as co-pilot.

KAV 05-07-2010 10:16 AM

Signing in.........

scottyvt4 05-07-2010 03:28 PM

Gilly - if we are at hawkinch (sp) and you're at manston you're off the map and radar we only picked you up at about 3.5miles away but visually at around 2.8miles!!!!

no volcanic ash ............... im good to fly this fine Scottish evening :)

Thanks for the invite McQ. I've been away from BoP for so long that I think I've forgotten how to play it. But I do miss the laughs so maybe next time. :/

McQ59 05-10-2010 11:50 AM

No problem f1re. We're often up to a fly-around or a trainingmission, and you're mostly wellcome to just fool around and get the grasp of it again. Anytime. It's been a bit quiet the last cpl of weeks, but now and then all the vets are present.

Even quieter when Red Dead Redemption comes out. If you get it we'll have to form a posse and go hunting in that vast open world landscape. :)

McQ59 05-10-2010 12:22 PM

Yeah... a bit sad, but I'll down a cpl of whiskys and load up my Winchester, saddle my old horse and ride the High Country with you anytime f1re. A posse with you and Gilly and the other old lawless cowboys & desperat gangsters will surely be a threat to the frontier.

I am already planning my Wild Bunch style final stand

I will still play BoP though. I dont think anything will kill this game for me, short of nuclear war or 2012 disaster scenario (or more likely cut off by Virgin)

KAV 05-11-2010 09:51 AM

Dont dear you guys leave me with the cheese alone here.........

Theres is now way I am gonna leave BoP on my shelf.
My love for this game is just to big.
I have just spent my day of work downing B-17 over Berlin in my FW 190 f8. In a training mission, taking pics..........

McQ59 05-11-2010 12:32 PM

No worries mate.

I think we should try to agree on a fixed evening/night or two a week for BoP. I'll never leave the skies for good myself. Like I say... BoP til u drop! You'll never fly alone.

And when it comes to the camembertflies... We really beat those chickens good last night bud. Great mission!

i think a night mission over berlin would be really great also i mentioned one over the Ardennes same feature 17's P51's Vs 109's/FW190's (me262's if they were around at that period)

Suggestion for new Bombing session:

Session: Strike
Map: Berlin
Time: Night
Weather: Clear

Allies:
Bombers: B-17
Cover: P-51
Take off from: Schönefeld

Axis:
Defenders: Fw190 f8
Stationed at Tempelhof

Target: Berlin, the Reichtdag

Any comments or proposals welcome.........

I've some suggestions, Both the FW and '51 are much better at altitude.

So, at the start 2 of the the FW's go and land at the airfield, The other one starts flying a CAP. The 17's don't land they climb up to 10-15,000 and have 6 mins to form up and get out of radar range. They then can fly in from where ever they like and the 2 FW190's cannot scramble until either the CAP FW190 spots them or the bombers appear on their radar.

(someone will need to test what height is practical as 10,000 may be a little bit high to get back up to once you die)

Oh, and how about some proper 'end game' rules? Bombers have to make (x) ammount of runs and return to a set location before they lose (x) ammount of B-17's.. We'd need to work out some realistic numbers.

Gilly 05-12-2010 11:26 AM

I'll happily do some testing with the 17 if anyone else wants to test I'll do it in multiplayer

Sounds good, we should see how long it takes the 51 and 190 to get to altitude too, from a stand still on the ground.

KAV 05-12-2010 12:40 PM

Good suggestions on match set up.

We need to do some recce flights to sort out some issues, hopefully tonight already :-P:-P:-P:-P:-P:-P:-P:-P:-P

winny - great idea we stopped chaseing the "hun" at dover after a quick message to gilly during the game would be a nice touch!!!!!

Gilly 05-14-2010 07:42 AM

Things we learnt from the reccy last night in Berlin.
1/ Reichstag is a good visible target to use
2/ can land a B17 at schonfeld
3/ the 190's stack up well against both the p51 and p47
4/ there's always one twat that doesn't understand what your doing and ruins it even when you send them a message!!

And
5/ Gilly´s vocabulary regarding 4/ is very entertaining.

This run is very short and will be very hectic.
After you guys left last night, me and scotty did some nightflights, until the internet gods decided I had been flying to much and pulled the plug on my connection.

The time in a FW 190 from Schønefeld to Tempelhoff is about 1 min 40 sec flying time.
From Tempelhoff to The Reichstag, 1 minute and 20 sec.
This is leveled flight.

winny 05-14-2010 09:38 AM

I got bored..

FW190-D - Standstill to 10,000ft - 1 min 8 secs
P51-D - 10,000ft - 1 min 12 secs
B-17 from 1,500 to 10,000 - 1 min 35 secs

I climbed so as not to lose airspeed so it may be done quicker.

Thanks to all of you for attending.
Thanks to Gilly for expanding the bombraid with the second and third target.
This was great fun, and a real visual treat. I will never forget the formation of three B-17 forming up, flying above the river, closing in to the Reichstag.
These where Gilly, McQ, and McKJD I beileve.
As I closed in from above at 5 o´clock, the two in the back collided and went down burning . . ..:shock::shock::shock::shock: AWSOME SIGHT

Some problems with loose canons on deck, not able to neither read, listen or respond to pleasant approches to let the session be as set up.
Hopefully these guys know who they are and will NOT do this again.

So whats next ?

I wouldn't mind trying this again but limiting it to the guys in the know as the first one went pretty damn well considering it was the first run through. Parallax had the best idea of messaging everyone involved prior to starting just so everyone is clear as to form up areas and targets etc and is then ready when the lobby is created.
We should perhaps reccy the korsun, sicily and Stalingrad maps to see if they would be viable.

Bomb mission set ups so far, and hopefully soon to be repeatded:

Canterburry
Reichtstag

Suggestions under concideration:
Factory at River Volga in Stalinggrad map.
and the Ardennes map for an re-enactment of Operation Big Ben :
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ypUNB2QM44E

Target: Me 262, He 162 or He 163 act as V1 and V2 hidden some where in the Ardennes map.

Attackers: Spitfires with bomb loadouts.

Defenders: Any axis of choice ?

What say you fellas ?

Been reading that there are supply issues with Red Dead on Ps3 in the UK. Tesco and Asda both said they may not have it instore tomorrow. I just searched Argos and they have it listed on Ps3 for £33.99. No option to reserve for pickup though. Hoping it will be available tomorrow though.

Yikes - hope not! There's a rumour Asda won't be stocking it. I shall be heading to Tesco at dawn.

Heard some rumors to, the donkey is dead, the horse is drunk, the gunpowder is wet, the ladies has Syphilis, the buffalo has Mad Cow Disease and the wolf packs are suffering from sever Rabies. The Bars are all out of whiskey and the Mexicans has ran of with all the gold, silver and dollars.

WHY BOTHER WHEN YOU HAVE BoP :evil::evil::evil::evil::evil::evil:

I read £39.70 at tesco. If I were you I would check Argos website in morning. If they do it for £33.99 saves a few bob. Also Argos have deal where you can get a third party ps3 pad half price with a game. Works out £7. I have a couple and they work on PC. Pretty good deal

Call it a little vacation to Westworld. I'll come back to BoP one of these days. ;)

The only game to grab me this year has been Lost Planet 2. But that's worn off now and back on BoP. I am sure Red Dead will be the same. A few days and then back in the skies. If there is no Gatling gun vs Mexican army stand off I will be disapponted!

dkwookie 05-21-2010 06:35 AM

heads up for UK players that Argos now letting you reserve Red Dead for store pick up and it is £33.99. Stock may be low though as my local shop showed only 1 copy in stock

Just opened the box - the Rockstar foldout map is awesome. This game + the weather = zero productivity.

So shall we set up a Sturmovik gang on this? I read you can set up a gang with 7 players.

It seems the Ps3 version is hens teeth at the moment. My Argos had 1 copy at 7.30 this morn and reports are other stores only getting enough to cover pre orders.
Posse thing sounds good, hopefully the animals will put up a good fight

McQ59 05-21-2010 10:56 AM

I hope to recieve my copy from GAME/UK this weekend. Love the idea of setting up a posse with you guys.

Too bad there are no aircraft in it. I doubt the wright brothers machine would make for very exciting gameplay though!

I picked up my copy at lunch and the map in the box is massive. There is a lake on there so I am hoping for some paddle steamer action

f1rebrand 05-21-2010 01:59 PM

Spent most of the morning in a free-roam standoff against two other players. The landscape is brilliant and you can almost feel the searing heat. Gun action on a par with Uncharted 2.

Are you going to pull that pistol or whistle dixy

I watched a video review and thankfully there does appear to be a Gatling gun vs Mexican army face off.

I am not sure I have enough playstation time to get the most out of this game. It's looking like a minimum 20 hour main game with god knows how many side bits.
I reckon I will be back on il2 before you can say Clint Eastwood

BRIGGBOY 05-21-2010 10:55 PM

yeah i was hoping my copy would arive today from amazon and i think it would be great if we set a sturmovik posse up
