Historical WWII Models Gallery
Inspired by bobbysocks' suggestion from the "Getting too involve in WW II Games" thread (see page 3), I thought it would be a good idea to start a thread where all the forum members can post pictures of any model WWII ships or planes or tanks or whatever that they have. I think it'd be cool to see what some people have made or painted. So post any pics you got.
I have a Stuka that I assembled and painted, but I don't have any pictures at the moment. Give me a little bit to take some (which means anywhere between 10-60 minutes). :-) EDIT: Darn it, can't find a camera anywhere. |
I'm a little disappointed, guys. Seriously, if you've got any cool WWII models post pictures of them!

Well just to kick it off and make you all jealous....guess what I'm doing apart from BoP this weekend!! http://i941.photobucket.com/albums/a...l/a43304e7.jpg |

I have some 1/18 scale ww2 figs and a Panzer I got from the states last year. I will take some snaps later and upload. Gilly you can't possibly do all the kits in that set. Do you want to share them out? :-) |
Lancs already done and awaiting painting, hurri's got wings and the the mossie is partially done! The bug got the better of me when I got kicked from that game last night and rather than wait for it to finish I went and got the glue out!!!

I know, it's only £30 really ;) Looking forward to seeing your airbrush skills mate. |
Are we going to try paint the models up with same camo/colour schemes as the planes in the game? Be nice to try that and maybe get some marking transfers to give them the same markings

I'm gonna try and do the XVI as it is in game and I'm tempted to do the bi-plane too.. just to explode it! (I can never remember if its a 135 or a 153!) I'm off to Manchester model shop tomorrow... |

Check out the Franklin Mint die cast planes they have reduced. I was seriously tempted by the Douglas dive bomber. Was reduced from £60 down to £20. |

A great Idea: we have something in common
Luftwaffe_Rommel will like to post pictures of his small collection too. Though, right now it would be a sad seen to look at as there is only recage and fragments left. Nevertheless, my planes will show their glory again. You can say I have a junkyard of planes in my room, but you can still recognize some of the pieces and tell by them which magnificent plane had them.

These are some pictures of my Ju-87. I didn't build it from scratch of course, but painted it myself. Check it out.

I'll be posting pictures of my battleship and cruiser shortly. |
I received some of my 1:72 scale soldiers. Painted a few up but it's hard work and I am sure I will get bored soon and go back to playstation. One side effect is that I bought a book on the Sudan wars 1880-1898. Very interesting period and the political machinations are fascinating. Lots of parallels with the current middle east sittuation.
The book is Khartoum: The Ultimate Imperial Adventure. Recommend it for a good read. |
paper AC plans
I stumbled on this and thought of LW Rommel..... airfix is cool but for those "now for something different" people... how about paper models? these are cool and cheap! some of the sites have free plans...some cost a few dinero. but all are good.

L8r all |
Cool! I'll look into them later, as I'm a little busy right now. But thanks for the links! :-P

Visiting the house were I grew up resulted in this:
These are over 30 years old............ |
Wow! Those are sweet, especially considering how long they've been around. :)
|
DANG! when i was a kid ALL the variety and toy stores had models. i figured instead of buying online...to go the store and see what they have. tough nuts, man...can't find them on any shelves...and if i do its some sci-fi thingy. guess kids dont build models anymore... that's kinda sad. guess i will give the hobby shop a whirl and hope i am not dissapointed by them either.
|
Airfix newsletter that just came out...they have LW, RAF, & USAAF crews. so if you are building a scene around an AC on the ground..there ya are.

Also heads up there are Russian pilots and ground crew available from a Russian manufacturer: Cant comment on the quality of these guys though Edit: Sorry that link was for 1/48 scale. For 1/72 Russians this looks good: http://www.modelhobbies.co.uk/shop/s...l-p-18002.html |
for that realistic flying image

As a kid i always used to love making (more like watching actually) the old airfix models with my dad. Used watch in awe as they went from a simple half fuselage to a complete aircraft. Used to let my imagination go wild when they were hanging from the ceiling.
Back in the good old days..... Nowadays i have the corgi diecast ones, no fun in making them but damn expensive. Worth every penny though as they look superb, many of them that i have are limited edition and the one i have the most of are naturally the hawker hurricane :D heres a couple of pics of some of them - http://i809.photobucket.com/albums/z...83/35308fv.jpg http://i809.photobucket.com/albums/z...83/32601sv.jpg http://i809.photobucket.com/albums/z...83/32601nn.jpg http://i809.photobucket.com/albums/z...3/32601S35.jpg http://i809.photobucket.com/albums/z...83/35501fv.jpg http://i809.photobucket.com/albums/z...3/35501sv1.jpg http://i809.photobucket.com/albums/z...983/35501c.jpg |
Foz...those are awesome!! dont let anything happen to them!! as the years go by those will be real keepsakes ( let alone worth some serious cash). I had a truckload of matchbox, corgi, ect....my mother gave to my @#$%ing cousin!!! i loved airfix....and there was another company that made ww1 fighters with plastic frames and you glued rice paper on and after you shrank it...looked so cool. wish i couls find those ( or even remember the name of the company).
Panther...yes indeed, there is a ton of great models there...oldies. got my eye on several...and they are reasonably priced too...only problem almost feels like a shame to build a kit that has lasted that long....but i think i would get over it... |
how to make a mossie...
go to the bottom of the page...they make it look so easy.

Not so much a model but a trip down memory lane. I've been at the design company I utilise today and have for weeks been trying to get their MD to by BoP and come flying as we're both big WWII geeks and spend most of our time swapping books, dvd's and stories.
I was due to go to Le Mans this year with him as a guest of his company but family wedding has meant I can't. http://i941.photobucket.com/albums/a...l/da3919a7.jpg http://i941.photobucket.com/albums/a...l/e818ae2e.jpg |
what year was that made gilly?looks 70s,

It's a bit battleships-esque is that you set off on the airfield and then move up into the sky. You take turns to dogfight each other, you can 'hide' in the sun or clouds and you also have ground based flak guns which can both fire as well as be destroyed. Pretty simple yet great fun, especially after a few drinks with both sides adopting stereotypes of each nation.
I'll post some pics of the spits and 109's when I get a minute |
my next first project...

Yeah man! Would be great to meet all of you guys! A BoP-gathering at Duxford would be a once-in-a-lifetime experience. As Kav states above, we're coming over at the 8'th of july. Gilly has plans that says he will dismount his horse/bull or whatever he is ridin' at the time and attend to. What a blast it would be to meet you all and shake hands!

I haven't actually foreseen that the final will be on that sunday, but I'm sure it will be great to see it in England. Come to think of it... I've seen the three last WC-finals abroad, but never in the country of one ;) of the finalists... A packed football-pub, mad englishmen and a certain amount of cold beverages. Yihaaa! |
