IL2 is great because.......
Ok it's been a heavy week in IL2 forum land so to lighten up the air and tension I thought we could post here what's great about the game and why we like it so much be it personal observations, funny IL2 querks or otherwiseI'll kick it off with a couple:
IL2 is great because: - I've just had one of best nights of IL2 in ages that made me realise what makes this game is the people you fly with. Great tour of sciliy with a proper bunch of mentalists!! Cheers guys - such phrases as 'godamm it wookie', 'you got fightnight round 3' and 'okay okay I'm bailing' have become part of my everyday vocabulary!!! |
1. its closer to real in the visual aspect. sometimes i just like to get on and blow off the EA and go fly around the countryside or try to do acrobatics.
if it was compatable and i had a pair of those virtual glasses for POV it would be truely awesome! that is the only thing about these games that truely bugs me...is top hat pov thing. i do enjoy the missions....and learning something new each time i hit the air. my dad would have loved this game...he would have laughed his ass off at getting 30 or more kills in less than 15 minutes but...i do believe he would have played it a lot. |
I enjoy this game for many reasons.#1Main. The very good friends that I have made since i started on PS3 sims 3 years ago.A band of brothers that I`ve never personally met.But we share our triumps as well as trajedy`s and love of flying and nostalga. All bullshit aside.Iam humbled and honored to fly with my friends here.Cheers to you mate! RAT OUT!!!

BOP was the only title that tempted me to go on line (and pay but thats Xbox) made so many friends its unbelievable.......pity we can't all get on line across the platforms and make it an even bigger community. Sad that so many deserted the Xbox game but I guess its 'quality' rather than 'quantity that compensates for that, we still get new names on Xbox.........and a few of the 'originals' making the odd appearance, which is nice.............

Thankyou Gilly, You beat me to the punch on starting this thread. That is why i love IL-2.
|
The passion and level of detail that programers/delvolpers put in to what is a work of art
|
Good thread, Gilly!
I love this game .. when I play alone, it's really relaxing .. I select a SIM training mode, i choose a slowly opponent as a Po and my excursion begin. I enjoy the level of details and the sense of freedom of this game... I look around, flying under the bridges, above the clouds.. I try new tricks looking my flaps go down landing in a field... i go to the refrigerator, i take a beer and smoke a cigarette and take off again... (before the Po joins me and drop a bomb on my head) ;) When three months ago I finally installed Internet ... for me it started a new Era. At first, dealing with real pilots, I had to re-learn how to fly .. The spectacular thing about this game, over fireballs and black stripes which we draw in the sky ..and the rains of aircraft spare parts ... is that every pilot i meet in the sky, has a personal way to fly! Everyone has a repertoire of characteristic maneuvers, that allows to define each player.. and makes each match unique. When you begin to know the other pilots, this great tribe of historic aircraft real fans ... you can almost fly without HUD and recognize every pilot looking his way to fly .. I thank this good online company, mostly the Skullbreakers for the many hours we spent together in this intense and involving scenario.. although I have yet to learn to bail faster .. ;) See you in the skies, flying mates! (and sorry for my google translator english... ) |

Don't tease me, Gilly... :-) :-) :-) ...rather keep an eye on your 6!! (latent threat) ;) See you, flying mate... I've to work hard.. (FFFUUUU!) |
akin to all the other virtual pilots that have posted here I love this game!! I'm sooo sad that after a stressful day at work I set up a training mission against a slow bomber & just free-fly, exploring the map of my choice.
Usually set in the evening/hazy watching the sun refract on me & the scenery as I fly under bridges, along cliff faces & following rivers etc. I have made many friends & don't take my battles too seriously, if I end up top dog great!, If I get shot down so be it.( you always get another chance!):-P The XBOX pilots are now a small group but there is great camaraderie. I waited years for a game just as this to come to the XBOX 360, you will find me on almost every evening.:-P:-P:-P:-P Sgt Madmax Fury |

Il2 BoP is great for so many reasons, but one of those I will put highest is what happened last night, as a bunch of good fellows lined up in M.C. 202 and flew Sicilly around.
The attitude, the common interest and the politeness of most of the flyers as we join up for either a fight or a free flight makes it a pleasure to be online gaming this. |
I could probably fill a whole page with what I love about this game. The graphics, flight models, sense of time and place are all unsurpassed. Great bunch of freinds flying round Dover radar station and down the cliffs. Laughing my arse off as I get nibbled by short machine gun bursts on return leg.
I remember lots of team battles with winny where neither of us had mics but had almost telepathic team play. Some fantastic aerial dances with ratman trying to get the micro uper hand and get the kill shot. Capturing the airfield with 300 tickets left and 302 seconds on the clock. Best game since Halo. Nearly wrecked my relationship with the Mrs but all worth it! |
I second every word Wookie. This winter I was happy I didn't have a woman to stall me. I probably would have bailed...
From the first strikes in arcade trying to escort and defend, to the last attempts to make a beautifull formation of 202's over Sicily. The laughs, the battles, the in-game comments that just swept me of my chair... Let this be a tribute to the game, the planes and all of you great guys in the skies! Til Vallhall! |
Sorry boys..
The 2v2's with wookie were the most exciting games I've played. Just being able to fly about in a spifire in cockpit view at dusk with some nice red clouds and red sun reflecting off the instrument panel is really a beutiful thing to see.. even if it's not real. I'm not a big user of my mic (wife frowns if I get it out) but I've enjoyed listening to you all laughing and moaning and shouting as we all shoot the shit out of each other... It's good to be able to play with a group who love the aircraft as much I do. |

To write here, I help me a lot with google translator ... really! I read and reread what I write and I hope to make myself understood.. Meanwhile, fortunately, I learn something! As you know, i'm not a big user of my mic... just 3 words "oooh, good shot! Aaaargh! Ouuuch! Good match! I bail..." amen.. however these are the best ways to learn a language! ;) |

If occasionally i'm swept of my chair, realizing only half of the comments... this means that the online company is really very good .. |

Flight sims in general have netted me some of my best friends both online and in the real world. Il2 is great for the variation that it offers it's players, not just plain sim or arcade as is usually the case with flight sims but three modes ensuring everyone is catered for. The graphics are certainly some of the best available on the next gen consoles this combined with satisfying playability have made it one of my best purchases on the ps3.
|
I love this game for giving me a taste of a WW II sim with the flexibility to be an arcade style game on my XBOX. I love this game for giving my wife endless hours of entertainment as I lean left and right subconsciously and unable to stop my self.
I love being able to hop into an authentic WW II plane from the comfort of my living room. I love the fact that people are so authentically excited and fond of the game. See you in the skies. |
You mention in the office during the 'what you doing over Easter conversation' that your dogfighting with mates to then be told that it's cruel and that your going to be reported to the RSPCA (royal society for the protection of animals).
I'm still trying to get all of the coffee out of my nose I laughed that much!!! |
Ha ha, I have visions of that scene in The First Great Train Robbery film with the Pit Bulls
I have to say when I play this game with my ipod on I can almost enter a trance. I get totally transported to the game, only game that does it to me. Its the flying. Its relaxing flying and exciting shooting. Great combination |

Where else would you find B17's, HE111's, A20's and Blenheims bombing together whilst LA7's, Spits and 109's dogfight together and against each other in the virtual skies of Kent, Berlin....
|
also
Lag isn't so much of an issue as it it with other games for example MW2,
The various types of control have given it a much longer life And Cheesetactic players can be overcome quite easily unlike campers in mw2. Then the community is great (apart from a few bad apples), there are no clans which fly around persecuting players for whatever petty reason. Activities such as formation flying and historic battles also serve to add to the game, these though would not be possible without a good community |
I agree, Il 2 is great game, planes burn and crash like the real thing. I love the Hurricane, though I wish the german planes could have a view of the inside as well just like the hurricane.
Luftwaffe_Rommel "332nd Fighter Group" will return to the multiplayer mode in June 6 of 2010 lol "Operation overlord" [La invasion Aerea, Luftwaffe_Rommel se unira a los Alemanes en Bombardeo "strike" equipo B "team B" en Gran Bretana "Great Britain"] |
Even when the UK's airspace is shut because of the Icelandic volcanoes ash plume, we can still all fly the skies of Kent!
|

Exactly my thougts when I heard the news this morning  'I don't give a rats @$$ 'bout volcano-ashes and jets who can't fly in norwegian airspace. I fly a G-6 in BoP!' |

A 'big up yerself' to each and every genuine member. Here's to another year of virtual air-based madness! |
what i like most about this game and what i think sets it apart from most other flight games is that it takes skill not just locking on with a missle pushing a button and moving on to the next target
|
IL2 is great because -
We get to fly the Hawker Hurricane.... And its pretty good :D Enough said. :P |
It's great because when I put my Battle Of Britain soundtrack on whilst playing I get a genuine thrill that never gets old. With that music blaring and a 109 in my sights over Dover I feel like it's my duty to kill that fellow player. That music is like the proverbial 12th man

Gentlemen, that's why we are here. our birth has set us years apart but our heart has us flying their wing.... in that most desperate time.
|
sounds a little corny but if everybody was like most of the guys i met playing il2 the world would be a better place.
|
Because there is still new players recruited to the game, keeping it alive.
|
il2 is great...because it become now hard to play il2 for me(exept late the night)...yes very hard to say to my young son and my young daughter : kids! u are now playing il 2 since 1 hour (offline) ,now daddy want play...
...no no daddy, please we want play with the planes!! |
This game is great for a lot of reasons.
1. Realistic mode. While it isn't truly "realistic" it comes a lot closer than all the other Arcade style flight sims on consoles. When I first picked this game up I played on Arcade difficulty and wasn't impressed and shelved it. I tried it again recently and upped the difficulty to realistic and there it was... the game I had been looking for. Kills are gratifying, even in Single Player because it feels like it takes some actual skill to accomplish. 2. Multiplayer! I had my first experience with multi last night thanks to this forum. It was the most fun I've had online in quite a while. Cool people just out to have fun. WTF? On Xbox Live? Impossible! 3. The Ground. In the other flight "sims" I have played on the console the ground is basically just a flat texture down below the area you normally fly in. The terrain and detail of the ground in BoP is far better than anything on consoles. Maybe you can't pick out individual blades of grass but I've often found myself in Single Player missions or training just sightseeing. It really adds to the immersion. |
I have since I started 3 years ago.A PS3 Sims Band of Brothers, I have never personally met.But `We share our triumps and trajedy `S and love flying and nostalga. All nonsense aside.Iam Humility and honor with my friends flying in here
