You know you are addicted to this game when

You refer to other players as flyers
You refer to x and y axis as aelerons and elevators
You waggle your wings at opponent to call cease fire
You spend weeks unlocking the bombs on the fw even though you will never drop them in anger
You spend time between kills checking the lay of the land for a race track

lost cause 02-19-2010 01:58 AM

You organize a worldwide tournament, can't get anything else done because of it, stay up all night because of it, suffer at work because of it, actually attempt to learn French and Italian because of it, etc, etc, etc.

I'm takin a break when this is over. I think I'll join edal on that vacation island for a while! (Wouldn't miss a minute of it , though!)

dkwookie 02-19-2010 02:30 AM

Too much vodka tonight!
Anyway keep at it mate, it looks like a good tourny

Zeroptimus 02-19-2010 03:43 AM

You know you're addicted to this game when you take a plane, and when you're landing, you get nervous because you're afraid you're about to be bombed off the strip. Also, you start criticizing the pilot's landing and thinking you could do better.

True story, this is. Got antsy when we just sat on the strip and weren't taking back off.

winny 02-19-2010 09:01 AM

You look at the clock and it's 3.30am, you're up at 7 and you decide to have your 6th 'last game'

haitch40 02-19-2010 09:10 AM

you have nouthing better to do for 8 hours than play bop
oh and you feel its weird if your up and down controls are NOT inverted

haitch40 02-19-2010 03:09 PM

you spend a good half hour to test different planes to see which is best for racing

Very true.. I needed a refresher course in blinking after my last session.

When you buy a new game and it spends about 20 minutes in your console before it is replaced by bop

.....when you see submitting your stats to Shadowcorp as a good reason to play even more.... And pointless silly games become all the more worthwhile for it!

f1rebrand 02-19-2010 11:56 PM

You make it your mission to annihilate Rolanchubnut.

haitch40 02-20-2010 09:38 AM

when you learn extensive knowledge of historical aircraft by playing bop

dkwookie 02-20-2010 09:49 AM

When you get up at 7.30am on your day off to practise for tournament

haitch40 02-20-2010 09:54 AM

when you do your homework (im 16) at 6am on the day you go back so you can have the full week playing bop

lost cause 02-20-2010 11:25 AM

HAHA!! Yep! That's a good one wookie. I've got MW2 sitting in an unopened gamefly package that's been sitting there for 2 weeks!!

dkwookie 02-20-2010 11:45 AM

Putting another game on then seeing freinds list all playing bop is like going to the pub and drinking coke. Pleasant enough but better to get on the beer

I have a couple of celophaned games I picked up in january sales. Short of being bed ridden for 6 months I don't think I will ever play them. Alien vs predator lasted a creditable 45 minutes in my ps3

When at midnight on Saturday a rather pissed up norweigen arrives online and manages to not only fly but also dogfight too!! Nice one mate! Best laugh I've had in ages, didn't want to go to bed at 4 am as it was so entertaining!!!

McQ59 02-22-2010 09:45 AM

Got to admit that save for the odd crash ( followed by amusing 'quote') you were pretty impressive, the two bombers you chased and downed with the one shot being the most impressive....or at least that's what you said!!!!

Yeah, that would have been impressive... I guess it was due to doubbel-sight, but I slightley remember (it comes in odd blurs) that I opend up on a bomber directly at his six, and the bird emediatly was on fire. (Both of them!) I guess it could have been a dream too...

When your control pads have a nice coating of powdered plastic from the circular movement you give them in a dogfight. I classify opostion pilots as "light dusting", "heavy dusting" and "coated"
Ratman = coated
Shadowcorp = coated
MB = light dusting

the more i look at my game pads, the more i believe that it is quite possibly that most accurate classification going.

You know you're addicted to IL-2 Sturmovik when you send an email to Product Request at work (Gamestop) and beg them to send your store copies of Sturmovik so you can sell them to people that you've been getting excited about the game.

Although, once they actually come in, you end up buying three copies because you need the one for your 360 since you already play on PS3, you give one to a friend as a present, and you give the third to a girl as a birthday surprise.

And on that same day, turn down a very promising date so you can play Sturmovik. Girls come and go, but a 10 player match of Strike is hard to come by.

Also, I have these. I know one is Pacific theatre, but you try to find friggin transformers/go-bots like these:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...e/SDC10838.jpg

Now you see them.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...e/SDC10843.jpg

Now you don't.

Also, Ransack (the bi-curious plane) is totally the 12 year old kid who just did a kamikaze run on me during a CTA match. I don't know where the hell the other came from. It has to be a go-bot, it's too off looking to be an actual Transformer.

I can only hope that the Decepticon jets in Transformers: War for Cybertron handle like...well, yeah. You know what I mean.

Shadowcorp 02-24-2010 12:50 PM

when you fly a me 110 in strike and enjoy it. If however breifly lol

Zeroptimus 02-24-2010 11:46 PM

And by 'model zero' I figure you want the Jap Zero. Sometimes it gets confusing when you get called 'Zero' on PSN! I really don't know much about it. Found it in a card/model shop amongst some HO scale model trains in Nampa, Idaho. Since Nampa is about 2000 miles away from my current living space, I doubt I can go back to see if I can find any more. It's most likely a Go-Bot, the K-Mart of Transformers. There's probably a plethora of them.

For the sake of humanity, I will give that man in the video my go-bot. I think that 'review' is going to keep me up for a few nights. The last time I saw someone that excited over something so quickly, I was doing a stint at a 'behavioral hospital'.

ok lets start

il2 annoymous

hi im haitch 40 and im an il2 addict

dkwookie 03-03-2010 10:49 PM

I think I have had enough of IL2 for a bit. Not enjoying realistic and not enjoying the game full stop any more.

Had bad night with it last week so decided to give it a rest. Put it on tonight and it was like stepping into a doctors waiting room.

I think I was playing the damn thing too much. This addiction thread was only half a joke!

winny 03-03-2010 11:02 PM

I'm sad about this.. Although I suspect the vast majority of people will be glad the skies are wookie free for a bit ;)

It can be the best game and the worst game all at the same time. (totally dependant on the group you're flying with)

Gilly 03-03-2010 11:26 PM

I'll secony that winny, harsh dk, not the same without you to be honest. I've found realistic a breath of fresh air certainly as far as flying fighters anyway. I think we all have bad nights, Jesus having your backside ripped off by your goodself can be pretty soul destroying at times..... God damn you wookie!!!
Hope to see you airborne again soon mate

McQ59 03-04-2010 08:19 AM

I see what you mean guys... I feel a bit like going on "Empty" myself these days. I really miss flying with you, and at the same time I feel like I can't use as much time online as I did a periode.
That said; I really hope the old "squad" get together sometimes, and rip the skies open!
Take care guys.

KAV 03-04-2010 01:34 PM

Wookie, thanks for the TB match last night. Hope to see you soon back flying.
As said by others, theres seem to be some fatigue about amongst some oldtimers. I have been forced off the game by my damn work for some periode and do not suffer from this :-)

Last sunday and yesterday night I made contact with new flyers make several off combat flights wich was great.
I will be gaming some the next nights (gmt+1) and sure hope to see you "old" fellas up there.

Cheers

I have rediscovered the 190d9, using it in training against lots of b17's. It's useless in a ground-level slow fight but when it's used like it's supposed to be it is faaaast and impossible to hit. It climbs like a maniac, zips right ahead of the bombers so you can dive down on them from 2 oclock. Throw a couple jinks into the dive then quick roll a bit after passing them at 650kph, and they don't even have time to aim. I used to prefer k4 for this, but k4 can't roll, so it sometimes gets hit.

I hate those @#$**% rockets! especially when flying head-on. if you could only hear what I'm saying when I'm not using my mic... haha

You know you are addicted to this game when...

you really wish that Your Boss was inside that He-111 you just shot down about Dover......

You know you are an addict when you struggle to chose from two invites.
One from your flying friends while playing BoP, the other from your wife wanting you to play another game and you are struggling about which to choose......

This is the reason I am grounded. I ended up taking the blue pill. Too much Il2 was killing my family relationship. My family relashionship was shaky but the game nearly ended it!
Appologies to Gilly, McQ, Winny, Branko, F1rebrand, Siteseeker, Kav for going Awol.

I ended up having a bad fight with some guy and it all went wrong. I looked at clock and it was 5.35 am. Time for bed.....time to take a break!

i am going to ration my time on the game from here on in

winny 03-12-2010 10:46 PM

Maybe we can set up some sort of support group for IL-2 widows, where they can all get together and have a good old bitch and stick pins in model spitfires.

Serious note.. Wookie, hang in there.

McQ59 03-14-2010 01:11 PM

No worries dk!
It's allways an honour and a privelage to fly with you wookie, but you know mate... Take care of the close 1's! You are granted "Awol" whenever you need buddy. As far as I'm concerned, I consider the missions we fly togehther a big fat bonus.

Take it easy mate!
