Forgotten Battles Gold Pack
Hello, what patches will I need for 'IL-2 Sturmovik: Forgotten Battles Gold Pack'?. http://www.ubi.com/us/games/info.aspx?pid=128
Will I need to patch both 'FB' and the 'Ace expansion pack'?, or are they already the latest version?. |
You need IL2 1946 >> http://www.ubi.com/US/Games/Info.aspx?pId=5163
Then these patches. http://forum.1cpublishing.eu/showthread.php?t=12042 |
I didn't purchase '1946', nor am I going to.
|
Then you will have a hard time to find a online server for your version as it is obsolete.
|
I don't play online.
|
1946 is a all in pack so the best and most complete il2 game you can find ;)
|
You guys aren't helping...
|
If you don't play online then:
1.Run the game and during loading check version's number. 2.Go to this URL http://patches.ubi.com/il2_forgotten_battles/ and check if there is a newer version ( might be il2_fb_aep_v2.01.exe and il2_fb_aep_v2.04.exe ) 3.Install new version if you have to. 4.A directory back is always good ;-) |
Yeah I'll just check the readme file after installing FB. I just wanted to know if it was the latest version, since I have to wait for it to come in the mail first. :)
|
I can't help because I owned this game so many years ago ... then it came Pacific Fighters ... then 1946, plus a ton of updates.
Sorry mate but I can't help asking why you'd stick to an n-2 version of the best flight sim ever ... you can download 1946 for few dollars nowadays. Bye, Ins |
|
It goes for 2.49€ in a electronics supermarket (saturn) in germany
|
Hi, there's several reasons why I didn't get '1946'...
1. I still play the original 'IL-2 Sturmovik' (and I'm happy with it). 1946 has so much content, it's overwhelming!. 2. I don't have a DVD-drive (though I should get one). 3. My rig is underpowered. |

Ahhh .. OK mate, but for the DVD thing, you can download the game from Steam or Ubi online shop. no need for a DVD. As far as the undepowered PC, with lower settings (just a bit lower on terrain and lighting ...) 1946 is working nicely on my 3rd PC, which is 5 or 6 years old, and not so powerful ... not to bother you, but really 1946 is 10x more fun, more planes, more maps ... Bye, Insuber |
I realize that I can can get it for cheap. At Direct2Drive you can buy '1946' for $10.00 (digital download).

You get everything plus all of the latest graphical features and so forth... for 10 bucks! (I'm starting to sound like a salesman) |

2. You could buy one (check eBay for cheap used ones that still work, I'm still using a 2001 Pioneer DVD-106S drive), or get that download copy 3. 1946 doesn't need more hardware than FB 1.0. Eventually you might consider buying a new rig. As far as I remember AEP needs to be patched first to 2.01 and then 2.04. It doesn't hurt if you do so, even if it's not needed. |
S!
And it is relative how expensive hardware is, like a DVD-drive. If you get a basic one, it costs like very little..we are talking within tens of bucks at maximum. Shelling like 30USD on a drive is not much as people tend to spend it on more useless things without an blink of eye ;) Buying the game for a few bucks..comparable to above. You got to a bar and get a few drinks and beers = 1946 already bought ;) I recommend getting 1946 as it has them all in one neat package and if you enjoy offline, it still has it all for you without going to the "other world of modifying the game" ;) |
You can get '1946' for $15.99, from "NWS Online Gaming Store", this is the same place where I'm getting the 'FB Gold Pack' from.

I bought RoF from Direct2Drive, it was flawless. On Steam the 1946 download was at 5 USD before new year, check that also. Bye, Ins |
The game from NWS (IL-2 1946) is a physical copy (DVD) in the case. Same for 'Forgotten battles: Gold Pack', but it's on CD-Rom.

Original IL2 was ok with 16/32mb GPU & 1.5/1.8 CPU 512mb ram Later versions required required more "grunt" in all areas. IL2 1946 is around the min spec of 512 GPU 2.5 ghz CPU and 1gig ram Please note the above is dependant on what settings you choose to use for graphics. |
Just to be clear; I already ordered IL-2 Sturmovik: Forgotten Battles Gold Pack. I'm not buying 1946!.
My system is pretty old but it runs IL-2 Sturmovik okay. Also, old flight sims like Combat Flight Simulator 2 and Flanker 2.5. Radeon 9500Pro 128MB DDR DirectX 9.0c Sound Blaster Audigy Gamer Pentium IV 1.8GHz Windows XP Professional 512MB RDRAM PC800 Logitech Cordless Freedom 2.4GHz Joystick |
It will be nice to be able to use Paul Lowengrin's - Dynamic Campaign Generator with Forgotten Battles, since it doesn't work correctly with the original IL-2 Sturmovik. http://www.lowengrin.com/news.php
|
Have you considered buying IL2:1946?
;) |
I think you guys are getting paid to promote 1946. =)
|
Not even ! Guess how it is good :D

I used to run Forgotten Battles on my old Athlon 1.0 GHz, with Geforce 2 GTS with a whole 64MB of ram on the GPU (I remember that Sturmovik used to crash after a random time, and FB would crash reliably after two hours and some number of minutes (I never did time it exactly to find out what the number of minutes was)). I could play at 1600 x 1200 on that, since I had a pretty decent monitor.
I built that computer in 2000. I built a new PC in 2005 for Pacific Fighters, it was an Athlon64 3000 (actual clock speed 1.8GHz) with DDR memory and a Radeon X800 pro, I don't think it was really needed for IL*2 after all, though other games certainly required it. IL*2 1946 will run on anything half way modern, though you're probably better off with a graphics card that's a bit ahead of a Geforce 2 GTS. |

It's just a good advice as you'd get more bang for the buck. The main reason: It's the same + more. And just by looking at your name, I get the impression that you might want to fly the Corsair. It's in the 1946 package (= FB + AEP + PF + Pe-2 + Il-10 + 1946), but not in FB Gold (which is just FB + AEP). Technically it's the same simulation, so it doesn't need better hardware. Graphical improvements are optional. Just make sure you put some graphics settings down, especially in the conf.ini (effects=0 is very useful for example). |
Igo kyu, the ATI Radeon 9500 Pro 128MB DDR is better than a Geforce 3 card. Also, IL-2 Sturmovik never crashes on me, ever!.

I got my copy of IL-2 Sturmovik: FB Gold Pack :). I'm really liking FB, but I have a problem. Out of the box Forgotten Battles is version 1.0, I downloaded and installed patch/upgrade v1.0 to v1.22 and installed it. I'm also using a No-CD rts.dll file which works great!. The problem is with the sound, I tried many different settings but nothing helps.
In IL-2 Sturmovik (original) the sound was awesome!, but in FB the sounds I was accustom to hearing, aren't there anymore. Sounds like flak bursting around my plane and shells whizzing past, are no more. The engine sounds are great, but I don't hear the rockets when fired, nor do I hear bombs being released. Bullets hitting my plane are faint, if I crash next to the enemy I can hear their engines and can also hear AAA firing but the whizzing doesn't exist. I can't see the No-CD rts.dll file being the problem, I also use a No-CD rts.dll for IL-2 Sturmovik (no it's not the same one I'm using for FB). I'm using the latest drivers for my Sound Blaster Audigy Gamer. Turning off 'enable extensions' doesn't fix the problem and causes static to be heard. |
|
I'd appreciate the help, I can provide more info if need be. Sound is an important factor to me and adds to the overall experience.
I'm using DirectX 9.0c and it's latest update release. |

You mean this site? You really should have gotten 1946... It's your money... but the Gold pack is in 46.. That's why everyone was telling you to get 46.. 1946 is Forgotten Battles The Aces Expansion Pacific Fighters Pe-2 Sturmoviks Over manchuria and 46.. The Gold pack is just the first two. Forgotten Battles 2.0 .... You wont even get all the great Pacific content from Forgotten Battles 3.0 (FB+AEP+PF) like the carriers and the Zekes, Tonys & Oscars... (I'm just sayin.. with a name and an Avatar that's a Corsair... ) did I say carriers..? and even if you only flew offline.... your offline experience would be GREATLY enhanced by having the options that are available to you only with 46... Just in terms of gameplay improvements between FB 2.0 and FB 4.07...... 46 is a no brainer. It is what my son's math teacher calls... "a gimme" |
Hey, thanks for the link!, I thought it was gone. The old page should redirect to the new address.
As for 1946, I've already explained why I didn't get it, in an earlier post, in this thread. I can hear the sounds when I switch the sample rate to 44100 (not all), anything less and the sound is lacking. I still don't hear flak shells fly through the air like in the original. The Flak sound is differnet from the one in IL-2. Also, I still don't hear rockets being fired, but I hear things like the brakes and flaps. In external view I can hear bullets and shells being fired from other planes including my own, but half-tracks firing at me I don't hear (wierd). Is it normal to be able hear machine guns being fired over the radio from other friendly planes?, (this is new). |
I believe you can tweak that somewhat.. go to the UBI community help site.. I'm on my way out the door.. but if you can run FB GOLD you can run 46... and be prepared for that a lot.. ;)
