I'm sorry....
After months (Turns out, I don't think the IL-10 counts towards it) I've unlocked the B-17. I was happy. I didn't really want to use the bloated thing, but I wanted to have it in my hangar just in case I ever needed to pull out some big guns. I took it to training, gave her a few runs, became accommodated to her. And then...I tried my luck with her in a Strike game.
I am so sorry. There were 1200 tickets, but you wouldn't know that three minutes in to the game, when the Mission Completed screen came up. Some people quit. I...felt like a real asshole. The thing is way too overpowering. Sure, you can keep a B-17 at bay if you have the right plane and skills, but...if it slips through, it's all over. I am sorry, Sturmovikers. I won't use it again unless there happens to be an opposing B-17. Even then, maybe not. I feel really really bad about it, and I'm being serious. Forgive me for using it. |

I know how you feel optimus, everytime i use the almighty B-17 i feel i am cheating the opposing team of their points. Unless ofcourse they have one so its even

The B-17 is extremely overpowered now after the patch. The armour increase makes it incredibly tough to down as well, and I've held my own in one against persistent attacks from 3 fighters while still managing to bomb targets. It should only be used to even teams IMO. That said, you can't be blamed for using it Zero, after putting in all that work to get it :) |

Don't worry about it.. It's all part of the learning process!
First time I saw a B-17 in Strike the game lasted about 45 seconds.. Nobody realised how much damage they could do. Now if I see one I go straight for it.. Because I was taught a valuable lesson, B17 = Trouble. This reminds me.. Yesterday I was shooting at a B17 that had run away to the other side of the map, when I started feeling sorry for him. (I'd already killed him 4 times) So I stopped shooting and started rolling around him and buzzing him without shooting. I then flew along side him (he wasn't shooting either), waggled my wings in a cheery manner and was admiring the B-17 when he must of decided it was payback time and blew me out of the sky from about 30 feet away. I deserved it. |
take a bf109-G6 or a fw190-D.
u can intercept the b17 with only one attack. (before he can drop his bombs). then u could get him earlier, after his spawn. |

I've certainly done several head on passes with an enemy bomber and been able to fire at him with my turret pretty much as soon as he comes into range in front all the way until he goes out of range in the rear. I can't hit him for sh*t as he goes down the side, but that's my problem, not the plane's ;) |
when i get in a S match and someone has the B17, i chose the opposing team and use a plane with rockets... not to hard to take one down but not all that easy either. i have never used a bomber in a S game only becuase it's too much fun shooting them down =)

I rather fly against a B-17 than a host who quits the match 15 seconds before it ends. But anyway, like the previous post say, its not too much trouble if someone thats knows what they're doing occupies the bombers.

I don't use the 17 unless someone else does first. I got to use it today and had a ball!! They are tuff to bring down, but very fun trying to hold one at bay. If you have at least 3 players, one does the bombing and the other 2 protect your targets, it can be fun and challenging trying to beat it. Especially if your team has a Thunderbolt. In my opinion, it is THE fighter bomber. You can raise holy hell on enemy targets with those big bombs and rockets, and can take down enemy bombers. And do it at 300-425mph!!!
Ya gotta use the 17!! It's awesome, fun, and you earned it. I don't see it as a cheat unless there is just a few players in the game, and then it can't be stopped. No fun for anybody. At least six pilots and you're OK. |
better a b-17 than an A-20. At least you can catch a b-17, roll around it and deal it some 30mm death if you have the skill. Nothing pisses me off like having to chase a too-damn-fast A-20 all the way across the map, just to get ahead of it and attack from the side. And its damn waist gunner makes it impossible to start the attack from below. So you have start the attack from above, or it turns away from you so the gunner can get you. That wastes precious time that you don't have when the bomber spawns only a few miles from the target.
And better even to have an a-20 than to crash into the damn bunker, which the last a-20 I killed did. There's always one kamikaze, every time. |

I hate kamikazis on CTA.If I do a diving strafe or bomb run on someone on the airfield and I know I can't pull out in time I will move and crash away from the opponent. It's just not cricket

I guess this opens up the fact that if you hold a diving strafe deliberatly too long and crash away from opponent but your last few bullets killed him could also be kamikaze. I could have pulled round for another strafe but I knew I could kill him with guns but die anyway. I guess it's a form of kamikaze. But the main thing is you pull and crash away from him regardless of if you get gun kill or not. Problem is the guy on the deck sees you crash nearby and thinks you tried kamikaze and missed

I cannot commit suicide under any conditions. My code requires me to die fighting or save myself so I can kick more ass later, not to mention giving my opponent a possible kill. The very thought of it makes me putrid (is that a word?). It is cheating and blatantly tells all "I suck and the only way I can try to win is kamakazi". Suicide is for cowards and weak minded ass holes says I!!!!
I hate being any bomber that flys like a bomber. He-111, B17, IL4, Blenheim(what shitty name for a plane). The A20 is excellent and so is the P47. The Stukas are fun as hell to fly but those guns suck and they don't carry that oomph, but can do some damage, at least the D. Those are my 3 favorites. I can take the 17 on occasion and have fun with the guns trying to ward off attackers and the bomb load is great to unleash on bunched up targets. I always end up on the 6 of a bomber. No matter how hard I try to BZ or get side shots. Always end up on the 6. I've got to get him before he unloads on my targets, dammit! So like Kozzm0 says, roll dip and dive to throw off his aim and fill his ass with lead!!!!! |

Seriously though, IL-10 all the way. No suicide here. If I get shot up and my engine is failing, I'll glide it to the ground and stay there until I get strafed. Every time a Sturmovik dies, Stalin sheds a tear. Do you really want to be the reason Stalin got emotional? Do you really? A diving on an enemy? That's not a dive, that's just a hard landing! Pop your landing gear out and you take that airfield after punishing the enemies of the Motherland! Again, it's late...bombers are meant to fly like bombers though, they bomb...stupid Arado...I wonder how many allied soldiers looked up to the skies during WW2, saw the Arado, and raised their fists in frustration as it bombed their generic pillboxes and flew off. Bet they said "Damn you, Hitler! That thing is really gay!" And then rage quit. Guh. Goodnight. |
