Airfield locations?
The map in this game is hard to overview, So I was just wondering if anyone know the airfields or landing strip locations that are in this game?
|

The pointless multiplayer mode 'capture the airfield' maybe your thing though as the number of airfields are nearly doubled but since October, I've not managed to find a single match other than arcade! |
I think there is five total? Two in England, One on the north eastern outskirts of Stalingrad (something like that), and One in Berlin. I don't think Korsun has one, but Italy has one on the coastline. You can easily find it if you follow the coast line on the map, where it's a straight line.

Actually there is 3 in England counting Manston. Its up on the north-east corner of the map and has a huge runway. Great for formation takeoffs too.
|
as far as i know, there is definately 3 in England as i can fly to all airstrips without using the map (Gotten too familiar with the landscape) ;)
I know italy has one as does Stalingrad and Berlin, Korsun does have one BUT its next to impossible to land on it (Cannot tell you where though) |

Like it or no, BoP was never designed as a full & immersive experience on the ground (or in the air IMO). Like every other arcade title, it wants you in the air, seconds away from the fight & once the last adversary is downed, it wants you 'back' out of there. No bad thing to some & I guess it's in keeping with the whole console experience. With my point, I was talking about the whole IL-2 experience, not just the mission editor but even that (the full mission builder I take it you mean) has no less than 75 theatre maps, (that's before 4.09); each theatre having it's own list of airfields with some theatres having as many as 12 - 20 airfields. And this isn't even counting the masses of modded theatre maps of which there are now some fantastic BoB maps & even BoB campaigns written for them. You can find these B0B maps here, along with thousands of other files & addons. http://allaircraftarcade.com/forum/index.php Just trying to help. ;) |
Ah, I just notice that too... Thanks! :)

I won't disagree that 1946 is much more realistic (and immersive in some ways but not others) and altogether a much better flight sim the BoP. All I'm saying is that IL-2 Sturmovik 1946 (unmodded) doesn't really have 'hundreds' of airfields... Maybe 'tens' would have fit better. |

Think we'll just have to agree to disagree once again, as I'm certainly not gonna sift thru & count each & every airbase, airfield & airstrip of IL-2s '10's' of theatres & maps, lol  |

Back to the point. I never, at any stage, made the comment 'hundreds of maps' because I know thru experience (& like I pointed out), there are 75 maps in 1946's unmodded, default full mission builder. What I DO know is that each of those 75 maps contains multiple airfields, airstations, airstrips etc) & so my original comment still stands up, there are hundreds of airfields in IL-2, fact & NOT hundreds of maps, that's where you seem to be steering me. |

I was just happy you said tens of maps instead of hundreds. I honestly don't know how many airfields total there are, but I don't believe there are more than 200. :) |

I gotta say this is the most ammicable and uneventful internet argument ever. I'm dissapointed lol
