If so, then maybe you overlooked my explanation of CMS as used in the testing:
"Combat manoeuver speed (CMS): Maximum level speed, minus 360 degree horizontal turn speed drop, plus ~10 second WEP acceleration after that."
The reason that I finally used this CMS formula in some of my testing is due to to something that became apparent during the extensive testing that I undertook over the period of a month: IL-2 BOP aircraft performance cannot really be compared to real world aircraft performance. The IL-2 BOP flight models are just not accurate enough to find the so-called optimum cornering speed in BOP. In real life this is certainly important, but the IL-2 BOP flight models differ too much from real life to take this into account in BOP. The maximum speed figures attained for the 22 BOP aircraft included in my test files also make this quite clear. For that reason I used CMS, which is a speed formula that is closer to the speeds that players fly in BOP multiplayer online. In order to test a game, one needs a game test formula and not apply a real life testing formula is a conclusion that I reached based on extensive testing of BOP. I tested a lot more than I included in the three files that I posted on this forum, which led me to this conclusion.
To have some idea of how insignificant and strange the differences can be, take a look at the "Widar Thule BOP sensitivity testdata v1.0.zip" file. In that you can compare the CMS results with 300 km/h results at various sensitivity and flap settings for the Ta-152 H-1, which was arguably all-round the best piston engine fighter of WWII in real life. Basically the fastest horizontal turn is attained at around 300 km/h with combat flaps, under 300 km/h you are just too close to stalling in simulation mode. But flying at 300 km/h also makes you a sitting duck in BOP online. The fastest role, dive and climb results on the other hand are attained at CMS without combat flaps. So CMS is the way to go for most BOP players online, which in effect means that flying at WEP and close to your maximum speed is generally best for all-round manoeuvering in BOP. To take it any further than that in BOP is useless because the BOP flight models just differ too much from reality, there really is no need for further hair splitting than that.
And as aircraft are concerned, Soviet and British aircraft are the best in BOP, the La-7, La-5 and Spitfire specifically are the best aircraft hands down all-round in BOP and in that order as is evident through the data in my test files. I do not mean in real life to be sure, just in BOP. Hopefully the upcoming BOP update (I am on the Xbox 360) will make the USA and German BOP aircraft perform more to real life vis-a-vis the Soviet and British BOP aircraft, since the USA and German BOP aircraft performance as it is now in BOP is generally all-round disgracefull when compared to real life. If that Xbox 360 BOP update ever arrives I will do some new tests to see what has been changed in the BOP flight models by the developer.
