Ailerons & Elevator sensitivity help

Guys....

I used to play the game religiously on sim mode in either the Hurricane or Spitfire in combat. I had the Ailerons and Elevators set a certain way which made it easier to avoid stalls and spins.

A couple of months ago however i vowed i would never fly in combat again on IL2 because of certain issues that ruined the game for me. However i joined a game with SEE (Evangeluse) a few days ago and didnt fare to well, i'd lost any skills that i had and my settings had changed.

Im now finding though that with my Ailerons and Elevators set to roughly half or just above im getting severly out turned by spitfires MkXVI's and also the IX if anyone uses it. Im flying the Hurricane.

As it is if settings for nobody had been changed then the Hurricane would comfortably out turn both. I understand the need to change the above settings though so am wondering.... how on earth are the Spits out turning my hurricane when i have the settings as high as they can possibly go without go into a ridiculous spin or stall? What have they done to theirs to make them perform better in the turn.

What have i missed?

The setting i have now btw are the same settings i had to change to on sim mode to make the plane flyable.

Cheers guys

I understand the whole throttle management to, but im still getting out turned when i shouldn't be. Its effortless on their part.

For the Saitek I adjust Elevators only and leave Ailerons at Max. Theres a 'sticky' that gives suggested sensitivity for most aircraft. Hope to catch you on line FOZ as I'm back home..........

Should have chosen the Yak-3 or La-5FN. Not some obsolete British monoplane (crap) that would get chewed up by any plane. ;) lol

Hey FOZ, you may also consider the few hard-core pilots that are still around have a lot of flight time in and have perfected their turning skills – I have noticed there are very few “easy” dog-fights anymore!...:)

Oh…as stated also try keeping Ailerons at max.

Forget about combat flaps on sim?

I did once in a 1v1. Got soundly spanked Spitfire vs. Spitfire and kicked myself after the match was over. Couldn't figure out why the bugger was on my tail after a turn and a half - thought it was because he spotted me first all the time.

Had brightness up and ailerons up, and elevators really low down :(

Feel like a bit of a dick right now. Had it sorted but fiddled with it this morning, changed the weong ones in my haste. Feel like a right twat.

Sorted now.

As for combat flaps...... yeah i remembered lol, though often i forget. Sometimes i simply choose not to use them also. Guess im different.

Its not funny mate, i felt my self burn up with embarrasement when i'd realised what i'd done.

It merits a face palm or "noob" title.

Lets just brush this one under the carpet eh lads, forget it ever happened. :)

Unreal came up with a neat trick to quickly go back to your “favorite” settings: In Options set one of the other Bars that you care little for, (Music, Speech, Radio, etc) to where you normally set your elevators of your favorite plane. That way if you do change your elevators when you fly something other then the Hurricane, (God forbid!) you can go back into Options and visually see where your setting was and just match you elevators back to that setting – quick and easy...;)

Good call :D

it'll be the music that gets turned down lol, i do like listening to that merlin engine....in the Shitfire!! because they somehow forgot to put it in the Hurricane :(

That's a damn good idea (the music setting)!!! Thanks, I'll do it.

Don't feel too bad FOZ. I have been flying for over a week now without combat flaps and just now had my brain unlocked! I was having trouble with them jamming all the time and kind of put them on hold for a few games, then just completely forgot about them in the heat of combat. That's why I've been getting outturned too!!!!! It's age, man. It gets worse, trust me!
