Happy New Year discussion thread!
Hi folks,
I'm and my team wish you all the very best in the coming new year! As I promised, some development update in the last day of the old year. We are still in office today. EVERYTHING IS WORK IN PROGRESS Some of possible damages in a cockpit of Bf-110 http://files.games.1c.ru/il2pict/sho...230_131706.jpg http://files.games.1c.ru/il2pict/sho...230_131735.jpg http://files.games.1c.ru/il2pict/sho...230_131828.jpg http://files.games.1c.ru/il2pict/sho...230_132006.jpg Rear view (Bf-110) http://files.games.1c.ru/il2pict/sho...230_132217.jpg Italian car SPA TL-37 http://files.games.1c.ru/il2pict/VVV-SoW_BoB-08_01.jpg http://files.games.1c.ru/il2pict/VVV-SoW_BoB-08_02.jpg http://files.games.1c.ru/il2pict/VVV-SoW_BoB-08_03.jpg http://files.games.1c.ru/il2pict/VVV-SoW_BoB-08_04.jpg http://files.games.1c.ru/il2pict/VVV-SoW_BoB-08_05.jpg http://files.games.1c.ru/il2pict/VVV-SoW_BoB-08_06.jpg Technical demo (!). Hangar door mechanics. In future it will work other way than shown now, however I would like to show such things today. Please don't worry about colors you may see now in this video. You should look only for hangar doors! And it is not final look (speed of doors, etc...) http://files.games.1c.ru/il2pict/hangar_mechanics.avi Once more Happy New Year! |
Thank you very much and happy new year!!!
|
Thanks!
Happy new year to you and your Team! |
Happy new year everyone!
|
Is it only me, or did you forget to turn on the light in the hangar? ;) (the movie is all black for me - Windows 7 64 bit, the usual codecs).
Happy new year! |

It's not dark. The screen is completely black. Just installed Win 7, need to install CCCP and retry..

Thanks for the update, Oleg!
By the look in your 110, did you just fly low over Scapa Flow or what? Doesn't matter, looks great !! The car is looking great (actually, interesting way the wheels work in this one), will sure make a nice target in a strafing run :-P Nice to see the hangars will be animated, now that's immersion! FPS isn't exactly high, but we're aware of all the limitations and the fact that the computer isn't high-end. Just to see the cockpit light up after the doors open was already enought. Happy new year (с новым годом might sound better  ) for all the guys at Maddox Games, and also for the whole community. Just taking the chance for some advertising: guys, big party on October, 2010. Going to last all night long. Place's called Storm of War, right over Europe. Everyone's invited. Be there . |
One quick question,
1 AAA blast effects Dear Oleg, in the final version of SoW, will the blast from heavy AA guns have an effect on flight? I thinking about shaking of the planes during bomb runs from barrage, and being pushed a bit aside from blast of the near-exploding AA shell, and also if such effects can be combined with flight model - ie. fighter in a turn suddenly stalling and spinning from the blast from an AA shell disrupting airflow over the wings etc. It would be a great detail IMHO, especially for bomber missions. 2 Night bombing Second question, the Luftwaffe used electronic blind bombing equipment during the Battle of Britain for night bombing missions (Knickebein, X and Y Gereat). Will the operation of these simulated, and can blind bombing be made relying on these instruments? The implementation of this would also serve as good basis for later additions to the SoW franchise (ie. use of similiar devices by RAF Bomber Command). Will there be night missions where some bombers marked the target with coloured flares, to serve as aiming point for the rest of the bombers? 3 Cocpit Instrument damage Will this effect of trashed instruments, gun sight etc. random (ie random instruments get damaged), on/off (ie. if damage done to cocpit, suddenly everything getting broken) or simulated (ie. if bullet goes through exact location of say, speed instrument, then the speed gets damaged, the others remain intact, and if bullet hits elsewhere, something else gets damaged, depending on bullet path)? 4 Aircraft special 'abilties' (for the lack of proper words) On Bf 110 cocpit shot, there's a switch that permits the pilot to select fire mode for MGs (2 MGs firing or all 4 MGs firing). Several other aircraft may have similiar operation options that are specific to that aircraft only. Question is, will it be possible to use such aircraft specific features? It seems to be a good idea to map generic buttons for such special 'abilities' for each aircraft, ie. Special Button 1, Special Button 2 etc., which would activate different function on aircraft upon hitting - for example, glare shield on German Revi sight, boost 'tit' on British fighters. For example on Bf 110 shot (also present on some other German fighters) there is button for Durchladen, ie. clearing the chamber of jammed gun and un-jam the gun during flight. 5, Several aircraft, usually larger had seperate fuel tanks, or drop tanks, which could be selected during flight to use as fuel source, ie. wheter to use fuel from rear fuel tank, or for example use fuel from the drop tank. Il2 as far as I know modelled only one single fuel tank, regardless of the actual number of tanks installed. How it will be in SoW? Will seperate fuel tanks modelled, each with own damage model (ie. not all fuel is lost when only one tank is hit), will it be possible to select fuel tanks, or pump fuel from one damaged tank to an undamaged one (if possible on that aircraft IRL)? |
I'm pretty sure this already happens in IL-2.
Every time you get a near miss by flak, your plane shakes and vibrates. |
Yes but the effect feels pretty a generic shake... I am thinking about something more specifically modelled, ie. if AAA shell burst to the right, plane gets thrown to the left, perhaps change direction etc.
Accurate physics of that happening, in short. |
Hangar door AVI does not play.
Hi Oleg,
Great update, except that the AVI file will not play for me - XP SP3 and windows media player 11. As the file 'plays' nothing happens - I can see the inside of the hangar fine but the hangar doors don't move - nothing changes as media player plays the file. I have re-downloaded the file (3mb) but no change. Edit - fixed the problem - downloaded CCCP (see below) and it plays fine. http://www.cccp-project.net/ Thanks for the update and Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. RedToo. |
Happy new year to All
|
very nice details of broken instrumental.!
why in the bACK view the Bf110 dont have yet the tail? a little small detail. buth very good nice work oleg where are the pterodactylus? http://i970.photobucket.com/albums/a..._mechanics.jpg jaja sry, happy best year oleg & team |
I have to say, it's a pretty short run, and, even if you make it, you need to get past the trees, at mountain and those big rock there.
Not the safest airfield there is  |
Spasiba!
Thank you Oleg & Team for the post!
Whow! That is all I can say. Happy new year and everything! regards Viking PS! Cant see the video. All black. |
Did anyone youtube this vid? My crappy computer doesn't play it :(
|
Best wishes for a happy , healthy & productive 2010.
|
Video was all black for me also.

Not a big deal, and the video is fine (not too dark, not too bright either, but it is too short! :D) Happy New Year! |
Use Divx player to watch
nearly ran into hangar doors, that would've been embarrassing :) pit damage is bad ass |
Happy New Year Oleg and crew. Thanks for th update. Love the 110 'pits.
re the video clip: Is it as bright as the above picture on most other monitors? I can view it and am glad to see a new dimension brought to the game, but I see it nowhere near that brightly. |
Oleg, I asked in another thread but it got missed, I was wondering what SOW would use for sound direct X or open AL? I ask because In Vista and Windows 7 directsound 3d is no longer hardware accelerated, where as OpenAL is still hardware accelerated.

Guys use VLC player , not media player.
VLC plays almost everything except realplayer movies and doesnt need codecs. google vlc player |
S~! Oleg,
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you and your crew. 2010 is the year. Good Luck. |
Fantastic...thanks for the video preview!
Happy New Years, And A Best Of Luck To You And Yours!!! p.s. Even that short clip of a test map is enough to give me a "hint" of the goodness to come. Their is most definitely an improvement and refinement of the lighting effects... |

VLC FTW.
Great shots, thanks, loving the hangar starts but a little worried about another sequence of a plane on the ground with it's gunsight on - could you please confirm the gunsight has an on/off switch in this sim? Happy New Year! :) Regards, Spinner |

With windows player i also had black video, but noh problem with vlc player. The final seccond when you pass the opening doors and the cockpit illuminate because of the sun light its great. Also the hangar looks great. As asked on the "give me some ^%$% ideas" thrad from Luthier. It would be great if we can set on a mission instruments missing or already damaged, and you have to fly without that instrument functioning. :) Great update, and happy new year! |
Thank's for the new year's update, all looks very nice indeed. Very cool seeing the door open, and the life going on outside of the hanger...was wondering if the hanger door makes a mechanicle noice on opening/closing:grin:
|
Thanks again for the update, Oleg.
Happy New Year to all of you. |
Happy New Year to you and all your team Oleg
We have had our New Year celebrations in the land of OZ - it was great. Looking forward to the release of BOB SOW. Thanks for the latest pics - all looking very good. Liked the Hangar door demo.

Thanks Oleg
Happy new year to all! |

Great update Oleg... Happy New year to you & yours as well.. and the entire 1C team..
|
Awesome, let this be the year of SoW :), any plans on when we'll see gameplay? I guess this counts as a start of something at least :P
|
Happy new year Oleg & Team and many thanks for the update.
|
Nice video ... it should be the very first original BoB video, AFAIK ...
|
The reflection on the glass I like very much, that's a nice detail. But call me a nutpicker, the shadow's reflection should look rather like in the right example:
http://img85.imageshack.us/img85/9541/reflectionc.jpg |
Not sure that was a good idea showing the Hangar avi
The rest of the info is appreciated though. Happy New Year |
The differential of REALLY good sims is detail, and I'm glad we have some chaps like Foo'bar to bother the devs because of the slightest glitch.
Nice eyesight you have there, eh  ? |

Shadow in the screenshot reflection is in fact shadow in the glass, not in the reflection. |

And IIRC I've played real videos with it already. Very old ones (>5 yo) though. Haven't seen any other real media for quite some time, which is good. Only exception are the samples on Amazon where you can listen to bits of music :D. They play in VLC without problems. I still use WMP as default though, unless it's not capable of playing things. And good ol' Winamp for music http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/59.gif BTW: Do we get glass refraction in SoW? I don't want to have 100+ pages threads on the FW-190 bar again http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies...very-happy.gif |
Quote:
|
I bet the SoW-190 wont have that bar again ;) believe me.
|
Quote:
...but dynamic shadow is in-fact having some sort of effect on the reflection in the sense it is making the reflection darker where shadows pass over, whatever the case, I'm just glad there are glass reflections at all. |
Oh, forgot to say, but I youtubed the demo, hope you don't mind, Oleg.

All DirectX based sound gets fully procesed by Windows Vista and Windows 7 in the Kernel, so Soundengines based on DirectX DirectSound or DirectX DirectSound3D (<- yes there is a difrence) are Unusable for the Sound Hardware, wich means No SoundHardware Effects and Acceleration. With OpenAL that does not happen so you do get Full Soundhardware Acceleration and Effects in Windows Vista and Windows 7. So the question still stands, is the game gonna use DirectX based sound or OpenAL based sound? |
Sweet!
Happy NEw Year!
WOW the video!!! Cool. I like how everything is taken into account when the doors slide open like the light near the bottom as they open up. Overall mechanics are sound. I'm going to assume that in final details such as the doors moving slower, the towing feel / momentum of the aircraft is added and other details will be fixed. |
What is it?
When that hangar door opens up what is it we see?
Some strange mountains? Karst formations? And that huge thing that looks like the body of an airplane? What is it? Regards Viking |

I wonder if the 'watch out' thread is getting on Oleg's nerves ;-)

If you look at previous topics on flight/damage/CEM models and authenticity you'll see the flight simmers have slightly different requirements to the console crowd. (I'm one of those too so I don't mean that as a put down) It's just a case of Horses for Courses! Cheers! |
Hi Skoshi,
I don't think we can dismiss WoP as just a console game. I'd classify it as a light sim at the moment and I think it's setting high expectations for other sims in areas like landscape and smooth performance on mid range machines. WoP may be making flight sims more accessible to new comers but that doesn't mean that's it's only target audience. Based on the discussions on this and other flight sim forums it's clear that the same crowd is attracted to both so it's natural to expect comparisons between the two. cheers! |

its Saturday afternoon here now, missing my "friday fix" and getting restless :)

Yeah, I'm curious why nobody asks for the dupdate this time. It seems that BoB is still not that attractive.

Yeah I was waiting for the Friday pictures too.

Nobody asked because we all knew that it is Christmas in Russia ... Othodoxes still use the Julian calendar = 13 days behind Gergorian (ours).
Happy Christmas to Oleg and crew ! (and Olga too :-)) Insuber |

LOL no it wasn't a "pluralis maiestatis" but rather an attempt to make cold humour ... too cold indeed :D

video looked very laggy imo in frame rates? , however it was to short to tell really in great detail.
would like to see a full ingame flight vid if possible with audio engine running. |
