Most Anticipated PC Game of 2010: vote for SoW!
http://ve3d.ign.com/articles/feature...Awards/p14/c1/
Let's show them that we SoW supporters aren't just only a few. |
Thanks for the heads up. Don't know what difference it makes, since SOW is more of a flight simulation than game.
The console games will rule on this poll. I still voted of course |
Voted! thanks for the info

I voted as well ;)
|
I just voted. I love how we're only about 100 votes behind Battlefield Bad Company 2 at this point :)
|
done
|
Holy crap, at 126 votes it's 6th on the list! It outnumbers StarcraftII right now, and all my friends are going mad over that one.
|
Done. Showing a strong 6th place isn't bad for a flight sim.

Arriba el BoB ! |
for me
1° Place: STORM OF WAR 2° place: SWAT 5 (is not in the list):( they vote startrek, crappy arcade. I hate startrek starwars. I never see a real space simulator combat in my life. |
great we will be #1 in time soon

Fantastic ! Our SoW is in 3rd position behind a couple of space games, which will be 100% forgotten 6 months later ... not even material for the 5 € bins ... that's the difference, if SoW will be as good as Il2, it will last for years to come. The other games will last 6 months max.
Regards, Insuber |
Are you satisfied now, Tanner, that you brought us back to earth???
Do you really think anybody, besides you, wanted to read that??? Of course there are more people interested in games than in simulation-games. Also for shure there are more people interested in quantity than quality. |

you can't know that untill you own it  |

My ego's quiet happy with me stroking it... But yes you're right about the 'fickle' game society, and aboslutely correct about the more stable, consistent, ego-stroking 'flyboys' - this is why we're here  |
It seem's that all who view this thread take the time to vote...some good men here, most polls don't fair well as to actual voting

Comparing quality btw a RTS, a 3rd person shooter and a WWII flight sim is silly in itself too. No one is delusional voting for SOW. The track record of the developer delivering one of the greatest flight sims of all time is reason enough for SOW to be a voting option. You also fail considering another sim that came out right after IL2 with far more money and resources completely failed to deliver a sim anywhere close to IL2's quality. Also, the developers behind Starcraft II and Mass Effect 2 couldn't deliver a sim as good as the nearly 10 year old IL2 if they decided to develop one. They don't have the knowledge and resources needed to make an accurate WWII simulator. They could make a WWII GAME, but not a simulator that could compete with the detail, accuracy, and realism that Maddox games will achieve. It's already proven by other developers trying to compete with far more money and resources and failing big time. |
I'll probably play a few of the games on this list including ME2 and Deus Ex 3, but I don't think I've anticipated a game as much as SOW, waiting so long for this thing to be done.

Anyway, why do you care? We're not 'patting ourselves on the back' for 'subverting' a poll. We're just supporting this game, demonstrating our appreciation. Maybe if it comes 3rd in the poll, a bunch of people will want to know what the hell this SoW:BoB thing is anyway, and who knows, perhaps a few of them will even buy it. Does that offend you so much? |
Quote:
http://www.gamespot.com/games.html?t...c&official=all Its safe to assume that this generates some interest in Sow:BoB too... |
When it comes to what money can do for a flightsim, I think the biggest impact has to be on marketing.
One should think that Microsoft had enough financial resources to create the best WWII flightsim ever, especially considering their experienced staff with a lot of flightsims behind them. But they didn't, and IL-2 is still considered to be the best WWII-sim. If you walk into a gaming store, the IL-2 titles are almost not promoted, and allways in the bargain-bin. Not very surprising for a game this old, perhaps, but nevertheless strange, considering it's strong position within the combat flightsim community. But that community is, as it has been pointed out, quite small. And big companies like MS is probably not able to make money on it. A small company like Maddox Games are more likely to be able to earn a profit. And create a new benchmark simulator in the process. Skarphol |
S!
Voted. SOW was on 3rd place.. |
Voted!
treekies and dentists will conquer the world! |
Tanner,
You are right, we flight simmers are idealists who still believe that better ideas and passion can beat the brute force of big budgets … but as you know this is delusory, and it did never happen in the real world … Regards, Insuber |
Voted & it was in 3rd place....

C'mon guys, VOTE for heaven's sake!
We already have DCS: Black Shark on top of the 2009 Games, now we only need Storm of War: Battle of Britain in the Most Expected position (by the way, I think they forgot DCS: A-10C on that list...) |

In Tanner's world, quanity = quality.
I guess in this throw-away society Tanner buys into the quanity aurgument. Who cares if the game won't be played at all in year's time when the yearly 60 dollar sequel comes out. With a few exceptions, most of those games on his list won't be played by the majority of the gamers that buy them after a year or so. IL2 on the other hand is still being played after nearly a decade. Sure the game lacks "whoring itself out" to mass market appeal, but it is clear the game is for people who want a deep, realistic, and detailed flight sim experience. The reason IL2 isn't more mainstream is most gamers lack the patience to deal with the steep learning curve the game presents. They want to fly, shoot bullets, and get instant success as their online opponent blows up in a hollywood style fireball while screaming "pwned!" through their microphone. What really happens is they fire up the game, go online, and have their asses handed to them by virtual pilots using realistic air to air combats tactics and skills. What follows is, "this game sucks, (insert game) is so much better than this crap!" Then they leave. Tanner, I'm sorry you had your ass handed to you in air-to-air combat. There is nothing wrong with sticking to games with less depth and skill requirement - just like kids have tricycles and training wheels when they aren't ready to ride a bike, there are a bunch of games to suit the weak attention span and skill set of average gamers. They are quite popular I hear. |
Only 800 votes behind the first place game:grin:
|
Maybe a bump is needed:grin:
|
on #3 and only 150 votes from #2 ;)
|
Bump!
61 votes to 2nd! Let´s do it! |
Voted!
Star Wars: The Old Republic - 2712 Star Trek Online - 1742 Storm of War: Battle of Britain - 1688 As I assume this vote gets atleast some visibility I would atleast build up a mini web site for SOW to give the audience a hint that this one is actually coming out one day. |
(pssssst!)
Star Wars: The Old Republic - 2714 Star Trek Online - 1743 Storm of War: Battle of Britain - 1702 ;) |
Bump!
Only 19 votes from 2nd place now! Skarphol |

2º) SoW: 1780 votes 3º) Star Trek Online: 1747 votes ;) |
Wow! would you have believed it?
Storm of War second most awaited game release... When you realize all the kiddies, pre-teens, teens are into the console and Star Wars type games. This is amazing, too bad this poll means about zip. LOL |
Flight Sims are kicking some *** in this one.
Fans of more modern aviation will like this one too (made comparing the top of each category): DCS: Black Shark - 1546 (Top Sim) Killing Floor - 1488 (Top FPS) Dragon Age: Origins - 1245 (Top RPG) DiRT 2 - 393 (Top Racing) FIFA Soccer 10 - 339 (Top Sports) Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II - 324 (Top Strategy) Assassin's Creed 2 - 250 (Top Console) It's almost unbelievable! Only counting games that were already released, the flight simulation community managed to beat every single niche, and by a considerable distance! Way to go, guys. Storm of War isn't in the top because it wasn't released yet, but we'll see some decent numbers in 2010  . |
+1
SOW sits on #2 with 1855 votes. The idea in voting for SOW is to create awareness for the game. If the game even shows up on the list is a good thing for Maddox Games. It can bring more people in. This is a good thing for all of us. More Customers = More content in the future = more n00bs online to cut to shreds. Later today I'll vote from the laptop too. |
As Jaws pointed out, this can bring some extra costumers, and so boost the sales for Storm of War.
Such being the case, I think we deserve a reward, right Oleg ? Just joking, you, Ilya and co. already shown us more than enought (but this is no reason to stop posting screenies now and then - every friday, precisely*), and, honestly, I think all these votes were well deserved. Hell, a flight simulator with only a bunch of screenshots and some old videos lurking around was just surpassed a Star Wars title with trailers, lots of media and with an already world-wide famous name in it. If there was a 30 years-old megamovie with 6 episodes named Storm of War, we'd have already spanked them. Funny thing is, some still use the argument that flight simulation is such a small niche and everything... Well, here's the proof that it is anything but small. Congratulations to the whole flight simulation community, from the developers to players, testers and everyone who made this possible. To the skies... and beyond! |

Niche market ? Two or three years ago an UBI Forum moderator wrote that the Sturmovik series sold 5 million copies ... and running ...
Well done to ourselves, by the way ... |
128 votes over the 3rd!
Hey uncle Oleg, we deserve a New year gift !!! |
Hm... It's only 874 votes up to 1st place, but only about 24h or so to vote.. might be tough to reach number 1.. would have been fantastic, though..
Skarphol |
I think number 1 is still possible, I agree that being number 2 has created some interest from people who have never heard of 1C Maddox...like what the hell are are those guys anticipating that this game is number 2 ???
|
Ok, let´s do it ! Let´s go for first place! Call your sisters, brothers, wives, lovers, cousins, squadmates, Olga, alter egos, etc and make them vote!
|
Come on Oleg!! Come here to say thanks!!! We deserve it !!
|
I will wait and vote for the best in 2012..
|
Looks like this poll was rigged. My vote doesn't seem to count
|
It wont count mate, the vote was started in 2009, its 2011 now, we have to do it again for 2012.
|
Who has been scrounging in the mud and dug up this old thread?
You could just as well make a poll when will Easter and Christmas fall on one day? |
SoW came in #2!!!
That was just behind Star Wars, so IMHO would be hard to beat no matter what it is! Did beat WoW and StarCraft! |
and the most wanted 2011 game ? :)
|

We'll judge it when it arrives - we have expectations as advertised. :) |
