Goodbye! a game? a sport? a competition? None of these
I've been playing about a month, a couple hours a day...
this is the end of my online play.. tonight .. tough to find a game .. then when I do... this is the scenario.. team play (or capture the field) about 5 players each side .... the end score ... my side about 6 kills ... the other side about 60-70... every time I spawned.. i was alone.. with 3-4 attacking me.. ... what's the point??.. we could make a new game ; give twenty 5-year old children a spoon... or fork.. we grown men will just use knifes.. but one or two with have guns .. just in case.. great fun... we could do this forever... why would the game designers even allow this? a simple algorithm could distribute the skill.. oh, but that would be a competition .. big guys don't like to lose.. okay.. then give me a plane equal in strength .. and I'll fight it out.. oh, .. well the big guys require an advantage in return for their time and effort and experience .. so .. it's not a competition.. it's not a sport (not sporting.. but I doubt that has ever occurred to anyone) .. a game? .. a waste of time.. spawn. dead .. spawn ..dead .. I've finished 2 complete campaigns... I'll fly the bombers to fill out the game ...the game tells me I'm good, hitting the targets.. bombing accurate... the online doesn't match in any way .. the precision required to score... okay... well then give me an advanced tutorial.. with 'Online' precision.. to practice and judge my skill.. oh.. there is no such thing... why would the developers bother.. they've already got my money.. and they make nothing from retaining me as an online player... okay.. i'm gone |

ad the sim players. there is no ranking or spawnkilling. no one on sim is haunting a highscore. a lot of people on arcade try to catch unlocks (me too), so they play the game, hmmm, efficient...

Greetings
Sorry to hear this Zenmusic but I feel just the same :( I am a newbie at this, just had the game for some 5-6 weeks and are basicaly a flying duck for more experienced gamers. To further gain experience and develop my skills I try not to end up with 3 or more sharks on my 6. Last night I felt the teambuilding became a bit to heavy in advance of Aces VS Newbies so I, for the first time ever, dropped the game. This was not a good feeling  cuz I love the game and the flying but just to respawn to get some few seconds flying with several more experienced pilots competing to kill me doesnt give me anything. |
I havent played BoP but i have played IL2 for like 12 years or so. I can relate to these posts because, on IL2 you can also play on more arcade settings. And when you do this, the same thing happens. Vulching etc, its not fun when you just die all the time without getting a chance to play. I then looked to the way some others were playing the game, as a sim rather than a game, a more mature crowd who played the game in a way where it was more rewarding in terms of learning about history, and actually having a fair flight every time. Nobody vulches in this type of game, as you dont have unlimited ammo, your planes would normally be doing a 10 minute flight minimum before you even got near an enemy base. Much more realistic, and funny enough realism works, games do not.
If thee are options to do coop missions with a squadron or something where people play as a team then i would thoroughly recommend that. Nobody cheats in Coops. And one of the things i used to say to my squadron is, 'if one of us dies, then we are all responsible'. this i think gave us the goal of not getting kills, but making sure that what kills we did get came with no losses. Which made us very good pilots and team players :) |

Hey Winny.
My online ID is kavorland, yes. |
if you are a newbie:
* stay out of "dogfight match (free for all)" because you will get your ass kicked, I bet it is frustrating to be on someone's six and being shot down by a more experienced opponent everytime before having time to line up your shot. * host "team matches" and stick to an experienced pilot, they know how to hunt and can teach you a thing or two just by observing them. Also, they tend to be in the middle of the action and end up with a bandit on their tail and this could be an opportunity for an easy kill :) * dont isolate yourself. Ask if you need help, many of us will be happy to assist. Add as many players as you can from the Sim Players list. * use the La7 (I officially declare this plane a training plane for sim) it never stalls, it turns better than the rest, and its one of the fastest planes if not THE fastest. Also, if you play on cockpit view it has no head rest armor and this allows for a 360 degree view. * practice spotting on training, remember that who ever sees their enemy first is more likely to get the kill. * add me PSN = edal86. I will be your personal trainer :) Im thinking about creating an Edal's Flight School for beginners :) |
Greetings edal86
Thanks for your advice, I will attend your lectures :-P As newbie a would like to state that the grade of newbieness is that I just started the Realistic mode in the campaigns and Single missions. Done some Realistic online and just touched the Simulator mode for testing. I awaite the arrival of my Thrustmaster Hotas anyday and will after finishing the game in Realistic and Sim with that one be back to kick ass online. I do dogfights to see and learn as there are several on each others tails and bein the "slowest" I usually end up last in the row, sometimes being able to get a lucky kill. (my aiming and firing seems to be totaly off ) As host I usually host TM as some of the more experienced pilots have kindly agreed to team up with me and learn a lot from that, thanks guys :) I just love the game and guess I will have problems keeping of online mode, so I be struggling to gain confidence and experience ;) (Maybe I should open a thread called "Newbie diary". This to get help and tips at my everyday issues and to help other newbies ?) |
Not sure what to sugest here. The more experienced players could jump in a rubbish plane and get fed up when another experienced player doesn't follow suit and romps the match. Or the experienced players could ease off but that's dangerous when there is a tournament coming up. All too easy to get out of the killer mindset.
I don't think there is anything but to bear with it and get better. I don't see Manchester United selling their best player to give other teams a chance...oh hang on. No but seriously best bet is to get in Strike where it's a bit more open. Once you get to grips it will improve. |

Not everyone's unfair, out of the 4 TB's I played last night I ended up flying off on my own in 2 of them, because of them being complete mismatches (my team being the better one). I get no satisfaction from repeatedly killing someone who is obviously new.. I usually try and go for the top scorer on the opposing team, but if you fixate on one player for too long you're not gonna last long, especially if the other team know what they are doing. This happens in all modes of the game (despite what others have said) I was playing a TB, Realistic, 4v4 and my wingman quit about 4 mins into a 20 min match. I stayed and ended up getting killed 25 times and not managing a single kill (was against oceanx and drkdeath tho). I used it to try and work out what works and what doesn't. I've also had my ass handed to me on lots of occasions in sim.. There are players like Edal on sim who'll at least let you have a go without constantly shooting you down, I had a good game against him a few days ago I was in a spit and he was in a mustang. It finished 2 each but I could see that at times he was struggling to keep the P-51 from spining and I appreciated that it would have been very easy for him to pick a better plane and rack up some leaderboard points. |
Greetings winny1973 and thanks, I´ll add you.
I mostly fly in arcade mode, but will join Realistic on occasion. Just trying not to make my learning curve to steep. I also concider buying a headset to better be able to communicate and have better trainingsessions online. Dkwookie: One night I´ll be Aston Villa ref 12.12.2009 ;) |

Well I think I will be out of team battles for a while after the incident with Olife last night. That was pretty mad match and wasnt much fun head on attacking for 20 minutes.
I will play Strike and leave the TB skies clear |

I've been in a sim game, 2v2 where it was him in that and someone else in a P51. I was in an FW (I forget the model)... I was chasing the P51 at full speed - both are fast planes. We flew by the 153 and I thought I should be ok being that much faster, but no... After a good while of flying directly away from him he still managed to fireball me. So he's either an incredibly good shot at range, or the 153 is a lot faster than it should be. I was gonna rant in the thread about that plane being cheap, but couldn't be bothered. It is still just as cheap in sim as it is in realistic. |

That was crazy! Actually I'm online friends with both or you and I felt a bit awkward.. It was olife- killed by dkwookie, dkwookie crashed, dkwookie killed by olife-, olife- crashed for 20 mins solid.. it was 20+ kills each by the end of it. If it happens again I'll back you up. I just stayed right out of it. I understand it coz I've got a few unwritten rules that I usually stick by.. If you're in a 153, I'm going to kill you as many times as I can. If you're using rockets in a DF or TB, I'm going to be killing you too. (olife had rockets) Bombers in TB or DF.. Sorry but that's like a red rag to a bull. |
strike, strike and more strike
Attention all newbies don't like getting owned by experienced players.......get some.. duh. ..experience: shooting down other players in strike. Even the top players aren't much challenge in a bomber. or go play sim cause if you can't shoot straight in arcade playing sim will really help
This subject of newbies being owned by experinced players is prevelent in all forms of games and there are players in sim mode who behave exactly the same as those like myself in arcade. |
Very true shadow. You are top of the team battle leaderboard but got singled out repeatedly on strike last knight by chamelion. B17 is a flying fighter magnet. Everyone knows it's game over if you get one over your targets so they become priority one. Fighters converge on them, usually while an arado or two are quietly pummeling your base :)

Just talk to people
As many of you know we fly in a group on team battle. Myself, Pudgy V, Unreal Death, TRC Suburu, BearClaws, TurboTim, UntammedCyco and others have been playing together since Blazing Angels. We do it because we have all become good friends and like to BS with one another while playing.
Do we like to win? Of course we do but, we also do not like to slaughter people as that is no fun either. We love nothing more than a good close game. Also, we will try and go random if the teams are getting too lopsided. Don't be afraid to talk to us. We will gladly break up the team to makes things even. We will offer advice when asked. We all got our asses kicked when we first started playing. It takes time and practice. We do not want to drive anyone away from the game. |

The scenario described in the first post has happened to me several times, I decide however that if im going down im taking as many of them with me as possible, even if theres not a cat in hells chance of me winning i'm going to bloody a few noses.
Maybe its just British underdog spirit? |

front attack, tight turns attack, dive attack...are a tacticals and we can use all the tacticals...i don' t understand... when i play arcade and realistic(and not in sim because i' m too bad )i try to attack the best player(s)cause i want to shoot down him/them before they have time to shoot the inexperienced players .during our fight there were u,winny and other good guy in your team and if i try to shoot down the inexperienced players(i RESPECT THEM)i think it was with a great pleasure u shoot down me guys!!! in fact i don't understand u won this team battle game dkwookie, why u are not happy? to finish i want say:BEFORE I USED I 153 ALWAYS(NOW TRY TO USE OTHERS PLANES AND I 153 SOMETIMES)THE GUYS SAID:OLIFE U ARE A CHEATER,A NOOB CAUSE U USED the153,NOW GUYS SAID OLIFE IT IS NOT GOOD U USED A ROCKETS AND DO A FRONT ATTACK WHIT AN HURRICANNE!!!????....HEY GUYS!!,IF U WANT I CAN USE A PLANE OF THE YEAR 1909 AND SHOOT U WITH A BULLETS OF PAPER!!!IT WILL BE MORE EASY FOR U TO WIN AND CLIMB UP IN THE LEADERBORD!!!!!!!i try to be cool and sympathetic but i see i m too naive now i will be really more wretched and no pity!!remenber of it guys... |
I printed off the all the psn simmer tags and will be adding them to my lists. Its nice to have all these great pilots around !
|
INFINITESTATES :Let me guess - he was in the I-bloody-153?
NO GUY I USED A HURRICANNE AND OTHERS GUYS IN SIM,REALISTIC AND ARCADE CAN TELL U IT :I USED A HURRI OR SPIT NOW AND SOMETIMES AN I 153 |
stop this
having a tantrum on forums over a match type (which i have played you in as well; head to head charge fight) is pointless and all your statements about leaderboard position are a little hipocritical.
In my head to head with you, i also found incredibly BORING; which is the issue here. |

going direcly at ur opponent puts u in a bad spot, so if ur opponent does this, there are many ways u can turn the situation around to ur advantage: I dont want to b a b*tch about it but complaining on the other guy's tactic wont do u any good... just use it as practice to learn how to turn the tables. And about the biplanes: if u def dont want to play agianst them: simply msg the guy who chooses one while in the game lobby... u'd b surprised what a polite request can do ;) cheers guys... keep it clean up there :) |
Ok calm down fellas, Olife was in Hurricane not 153. I didnt say I was sore about the match, just that it wasnt much fun.
It was pure carnage, tit for tat killing, crashing and wreckage everywhere. I was a bit embaressed at one point wondering what the other players must think we were up to with all those crash and kill messages flashing all over. I dont think two experienced pilots should end up with that kind of nonsence and if I came into a match as a new player to that I would wonder what I walked into. so next time we lock horns lets try some aerobatics I did give you a wing waggle a couple of times to indicate I had had enough....but guess the rocket smoke obscured that :-) Edit: I am as guilty as Olife for it, hence self banishment to Strike to punish some B17s for a while :-) Gillybadmutha wont be happy though |

My suggestion to the OP:
Avoid 'arcade' matches and play 'realistic' instead. It's really not much harder, and less of that crap goes on. 'Sim' is even better if you like it. It's easier to spawn without being noticed, since there's no big red arrow on your opponents screen pointing to you. |
This game throws you in the deep end in online play. Sink or swim dude. Take it as a challenge. You are the only one who can make it easier and more fun thru experience. I have to admit, the arcade camp looks like its split between vets and rookies, and the vets are having no mercy on anybody. I consider myself a pretty good arcade player, but some of these guys lately are damn good. They make amazing turns impossible in the other modes. Just keep playin. I'm an older guy and I guarentee if I can master this thing, so can you. The satisfaction of flaming some of these guys and hearing them get pissed is too much fun!!!! One guy I had to black list cuz his mouth is filthy and attitude is poor. Everytime I get in a match with him, I flame his ass as many times as I can and laugh like hell everytime I do. He never wins with me in the game. HAHAHAHA!!!

just stick with strike untill your ready for a dogfight, the way i assess players is immortal pilot trophy/acheivement. If they've got it they're no rookie.
And more experienced players are in every game mode, it just so happens because arcade has the most players playing, that it has more of the experienced players than the other settings. |
