IL2 and windows 7 (64bit)

I recently installed windows 7 professional 64bit. I'm not a microsoft fanboy but I've got to admit, it's a good operating system. Everything works, even older games/program's that had trouble with my vista (32bit). But there is only one thing that doesn't work anymore. :cry: IL2 1946! Nooo!

The problem is (like more people have with 64bit editions) that once installed, IL2 won't start. The dvd starts spinning. Some HD ratling and then nothing!
I browsed some forums for a sollution but I didn't found one that was working for me.

I allready installed IL2 twice in different directory's. I modified the config.ini, ran it as administrator, changed the permissions etc. It just won't start!

Is there a solution/way to get it work under win7 64bit? There must be cause some fellow's are playing it on there 64bit system.

Thanks in advance for the help.

p.s. I'm looking to get the normal IL2 1946 4.09m to work. I ain't modding it.

I have IL2 1946 working just fine in Windows 7 64bit RTM version. Make sure you run it in compatability mode.

I do have problems with SLI studders though. Other than that if I go single card it runs fine.

Windows 7 64 bit here. All working well. Hyperlobby can give some issues, but they can be easily solved.

Feuerfalke 11-16-2009 08:09 PM

Win7 64 HP here. No issues with IL2 or Hyperlobby. Running normally, not in admin-mode and definitely not in compatibility mode.

Disable UAC and maybe WindowsDefender.

Don't be offended by this question, but, between version 4.07 on the DVD and version 4.09, did you install patch 4.08? I forgot to do this myself recently, and spent a lot of time wondering what was going on.

Feuerfalke 11-16-2009 08:16 PM

Have you set resolutions and refreshrates as in your previous OS? It's possible that you forgot a monitor-driver or there's a wrong readout in Win7, so it cannot produce the wanted resolution you set in the IL2conf.ini?

1.JaVA_Zeehond 11-16-2009 08:30 PM

Settings are fine. I did a clean install of win7 (format) downloaded all the latest drivers for my pc. So no problems there. I installed all the patches. first 4.08 then 4.09 + 4.09 skins.

In just even bought the 4.09 version from www.GoG.com. Even better!! It installs for 1/3 and then quits... pfftt... this gonna take a lot of time. Hope I can fix it.

BTW I offer one million spacebucks for the golden sollution ;p

I know it is normally forbidden to ask but it might solve my problem. Is there a 4.09m nocd exe arround? I'm asking this cause it might be a securerom issue!

13th Hsqn Protos 11-16-2009 11:43 PM

Just google, but I think the old ones work ??? Its been a few months since I reinstalled, so don't remember everything. You may be looking at a format ...... there is nothing wrong with this os and IL2. It actually runs damn fine and I have a quadcore. Don't need to set cpu or anything.

hiro 11-17-2009 06:06 AM

Try this

I remember a couple of dudes over at the ubizoo mentioned you can't install IL 2 to the program folder, IL-2 has to write stuff back to the config file and windows 7 (took this from Vista) only lets admins write to that folder. Since IL-2 cannot be granted such access . . . it won't work.

Make a games folder in your root C: and put it in there.

Feuerfalke 11-17-2009 06:09 AM

^^^
Definitely a good point, if you don't disable UAC and WindowsDefender.

It is most likely a securom issue. Try the following.

Go here: https://support.securom.com/analysis.php

Download the SecuROM diag tool and run a scan. Just get it to update the nessesary files and it should then run.

Tanimbar 11-17-2009 01:51 PM

Goto UBI HelpDesk forum for fix ......

I recently asked about this issue on the UBI HelpDesk forum. As always they are a helpful bunch and will email a fix for the 'spinning disc'. Check out ....

Tanimbar

"No, it's not as dire as you think. Windows 7 x64 here, running just fine in Devon UK.

Firstly, not all copies of 1946 sold in the UK are SecuRom "protected". Next, if you do encounter the "spinning disc" problem then let us know and someone will post you the very simple fix."

Exactly right! As long as you don't have it in Program files it will be fine.

Even more practical is a separate partition on the hard-drive. It saves the need to defrag the gigabytes that the game(s) take up, and preserves them if you ever need to format and reinstall your OS. You just have to take care with selecting the filepath when up-dating or adding skins, missions and so on.

I also like Win 7 64bit, it's a good replacement for XPx86 imo

Just wasted another couple of hours because of securerom malfunctioning.

Shipping versions of IL2 at this late stage with a securerom that is totally incompatible with win7/64 and requires the machine to be online to update it is inexcusable and shows no respect for customers.

If anyone ever starts a class action to sue UBI over the time and money wasted due to securerom let me know :D

WTE_Galway 12-06-2010 03:24 AM

I have advised the user to forget about IL2 and they are returning the game to the store.

Does anyone have a link to info about removing securerom from a system?? ... they are not keen on reinstalling windows.

Wutz 12-06-2010 08:18 AM

Hmm I am running also a Win7 Professional system, IL2 1946 works fine. Only online there is a issue that the landscape turns black every now and then, and then with in minutes crashes. Shifting my screen resollution to a poor setting. When reset I can fly right away again, and the problem might first appear in over an hours time again. This does not happen off line. But I am guessing it is either a graficscard issue, or my DSL conection is not fast enough.

_RAAF_Smouch 12-06-2010 08:28 AM

I have no problems with W7 64bit Premium.

Initially it installed fine to the default file path with UAC turned off but when I ran the game I found that I have no sound from my wingmen or ground control. Once I moved the whole game folder into it's own C: folder I have had no problems with it or HL.

And if for some reason it won't fully install I once had this happen (in XP) as well and this is what I had to do to get it to fully load onto my machine:

From Micrsoft Support Article ID: 314810

Method 2: Change the memory settings for installation
To change the memory settings for installation, follow these steps:

1. Click Start, and then click Run.
2. In the Open box, type msconfig, and then click OK.
3. On the BOOT.INI tab, click Advanced Options.
4. In the BOOT.INI Advanced Options dialog box, select the /MAXMEM= check box, and then change the setting to 256* (or lower if your computer has less RAM).
5. Click OK to close the BOOT.INI Advanced Options dialog box.
6. In the System Configuration Utility dialog box, click Apply.
7. Click OK to close the System Configuration Utility dialog box.
8. Click Restart to the following message:
You must restart your computer for some of the changes made by System Configuration to take effect.
9. After you restart your computer, install Office as a Complete Install.
10. After you install Microsoft Office, follow steps 1 through 8 to clear the /MAXMEM= check box.

At step 9 installed 1946 and then went to step 10.

* = I had 2046 in the box, I lowered it to 1024.

sorry I have somehow sent this off thread but it did help also installing another game by another company onto my machine in W7 as well

Azimech 12-06-2010 09:45 AM

I had a dual XP 32 multiboot and added Win7 64 about a month ago. Didn't change any setting of IL2 1946 and it ran immediately with all my controllers, in perfect mode. As if I didn't change anything. I have a directory with an unmodified version that I duplicate if I want to throw mods over that one. I have the DVD upstairs and use a nocd, obviously.

I don't agree you should install your game anywhere on drive C. I have my games partition on D, where harddrive speeds are not the best but where filesystem fragmentation is less of an issue and reinstalling windows can be done with a format of C, as it should.

For Windows 7

Create a folder (IL2 1946) on the destination drive C: or your preferred drive, and install into it.

C:IL2 1946\IL2 1946 v4.10m

Also

The maximum RAM limit for 32-bit Windows 7 editions is 4GB, when it comes to the 64-bit editions, the amount of memory that the OS can address depends on which edition you are running.

Here are the upper RAM limits for the different editions of Windows 7:

* Starter: 8GB
* Home Basic: 8GB
* Home Premium: 16GB
* Professional: 192GB
* Enterprise: 192GB
* Ultimate: 192GB

These limits are similar to those for Vista editions, expect that Vista Enterprise and Vista Ultimate have had their upper limits raised from 128GB to 192GB.

The one to look out for there is the 16GB limit on Home Premium. If you’re building a Core i7 system then it’s quite easy to exceed this limit.

322Sqn_Dusty 01-01-2011 08:10 PM

Win 7 Ultra 64 bit here with 4Gb ram.

Haven't got issues with Il2 1946, i'm only running it as administrator but that's more like a habit. It's installed on another partition to seperate win from programs.

I hope that the new safety won't cause such problems..it turns hairs to grey...

zakkandrachoff 01-01-2011 11:24 PM

can i ask a stpid question?

i have windows 7 64 bits ultimate

and i already install il2 in this folder:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\IL-2 Sturmovik 1946

CAn i cut the /IL-2 Sturmovik 1946/ folder and paste in C:\IL-2 Sturmovik 1946 ???

teld me it is posible :|

AndyJWest 01-02-2011 12:09 AM

You can usually move (or copy) IL-2 from one folder to another ok (this allows multiple installs too). You'll need to create a new desktop shortcut for the moved .exe, but otherwise it should run as is.

[URU]BlackFox 01-02-2011 12:12 AM

If your installation is working ok, a copy/paste makes a valid alternative "installation". I've got 3 copies working (a stock 4.10 and 2 modded)

Azimech 01-02-2011 11:53 AM

Some programs and games are dependent on registry settings and they fail if moved to another location. The IL2 series are not among those, you can even have multiple Windows installed and run this sim from the same folder while in XP, Vista or Win7.

That's the beauty of programs which have ALL of their configuration files in their own folder, instead of the other philosophy: user and configuration files somewhere in "My Documents" or even worse, inside an obscure folder named "Application Data".

Where can the latest patch for 1946 be downloaded?

Head over to Mission4Today
This link is probably your best bet:
http://www.mission4today.com/index.p...etails&id=4088
Updates to 4.10.1, which is the latest version until 4.11 comes out.

steppie 07-30-2011 08:37 AM
