Patch Update
Just thought you guys might want to know, the admin over at Anton's forums made these posts to day. Its not much but atleast a update so we all know the patch is still on its way.
Todace: "Hi guys Title update is in QA agian - a few issues with multiplayer were found. More news about title update will be next week. BTW Some news about sequel and PC version of the game will be very soon. And on this forum will be a day before others." Then this was asked " Can you give us any info on what the MP bugs were? Also, this whole issue that the publisher is not going to release the update...can you make any comments on that? Thanks again for your continued support, it is much appreciated" Todace: "Well, first of all publishers are still going to release update. There are just lots of communication delays, like this: we made update, publisher scheduled QA on next week, then QA worked and found issues, then our turn agian. We have repeated this at least 6 times, and each iteration takes time, usually week and more. You know updates are not primary buisness for publishers (any of them) and as they don't have internal QA team it take much more time. I'm talking about PS3 update. X360 will be scheduled for QA not earlier then PS3 update will pass Sony's QA. Bugs are about disconnects in some cases. So most of time we are not making or fixing update but just waiting. But on other hand our works on sequel are on schedule. And all the issues that we have fixed in update or all features that were added will be in sequel. And even more - things like replays or join-in-progress cannot be added in Birds of Prey, but will be in sequel. So, you are not forgetten, guys " Then this was asked "lol they are working on a sequel, having not even fixed the first game. Are you really trying to tell me that, replays, more options and all the other missing things were not on the table for the original and you didn't just cut them for budget reasons ? Be honest, you just wanted this game out to generate some cash and check out the market. Granted all IL-2 releases needed a few patches, but they all included far more features. You should have taken way more cues from the PC versions. " Todace: "Keep your lols for someone else. PC is very different from consoles. If you don't want to listen what I'm talking about - then don't ask questions. Just for example - there is no possibility to add replays for console version. This feature requires more memory then it is possible to have. So that means that this is not just 'add' feature. Join-in-Progress, for example can be done on consoles. But it cannot be done in ranked match which is required on Live, and it requires more tests to pass certification. And as we have no posibility to make open beta-test on consoles it was impossible to have it. And so on. And, BTW, publisher have to pay platformholders for each update. That is completely different from PC. Also we are making update with self-funding, so please, give us some respect for this work - we are not obliged to do this. Our PC version will be updated much often. " So there you have it guys, the latest info on the patch. It sheds some light on the situation a little and lets us know that the patch is still on its way. Have a Great day, Desode |
I understand the dude's anger that made "Todace" mad... but, cmon, this isn't the Soviet Union... these Russian devs are gonna have to start learning their markets, you can't just go around releasing a game, creating a dev's forum and leaving your community in the dark saying, "We don't have any obligation to make an update, we are using our own money" I know they probably grew up in communism and that influence is hard to shake, but in order to succeed in markets abroad you need to know how communicate effectively and not leave people hanging, thinking "We don't have to tell you nothing, it is the way it is, long live Mother Russia"
|
Here we go again with the "please give us respect because we are paying out of pocket for the update and we are not obliged to do this". Are you kidding me! The game is broken and you released it as is! You should do the honorable thing and correct it! I swear they'd charge us if they could for the update.
This is the second time I've heard this from the developers and I'm starting to wonder if their inexperience is the culprit for a lot of the issues we are having. And BTW I enjoy this game and appreciate all of their hard work. EDIT: I've been thinking this for a while but I haven't said it but the poster above me did so here we go. I also suspect some issues and attitudes are the result of cultural (oh what is the word?). |
Now that I know the patch is coming for sure it will be must easier to wait it out. Besides I'm gonna have MW2 to keep me busy. :)
|
Thanks for the update on this... Much appreciated. :)
|
Wow, i find the developpers are often mean..
Anyway, i don't even play the game anymore. So they can be rude to new people now. |
In Soviet Russia . . . game patches you!

Thanks for finding and posting this buddy.

That's all any developer is about lately, cheap sequels. Make a quick sequel, no matter how crappy, to make the quick buck.
But there's a rule about sequels: first you have to make a great game and sell a lot of copies, before you can make a sequel. EA is working on their millionth sequel to Battlefield but they're calling it Bad Company 2 which makes it the sequel to the lame Bad Company. They'll only get away with it cause they're EA and they have graphics fanboys. I don't think 505 can get away with that. BoP has to be finished before they can make a sequel. Judging by the number of players on the boards, I'd guess it hasn't sold 50k copies yet, not on ps3 at least. When the game isn't selling well isn't the time to talk sequel. |

join-in-progress cannot be added in Birds of Prey, but will be in sequel.
Seeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeyaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! When people ask was it Lee Harvey Oswald that shot and killed BOP, the answer is no, no it was not LHO, but rather the lack of this one simple item. You see when you have a limited community for a niche product, the last thing you want to do is segment the consumer into isolation where they cannot join or enjoy the limited numbers of players available. Otherwise, you will piss off the limited number of consumers that sit in their big fat lazy boy wasting thirty minutes of their life and their 120" projector bulbs life looking for a match that will never come. And after a limited amount of these wasting activities said customer will buy two more monitors and then enjoy their favorite PC sims at 4960x1600 resolution and not look back at the Russian console developers that love to put nuts in vices. In soviet Russia, not only does the game patch you, but it also pleasures your woman better, abuses your sports car and smokes your last cigarette! And Goat I enjoyed our few skirmishes where you violated me in ways I never thought possible with a La-7, but I fear my console flying days will be few and far between as I have enlisted in WWI http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...2320097528.jpg |
Is that seriously your gaming room?
Wow... And what game is that? |

I have worked for THQ, EA, Vivendi and Insomniac Games... and if there is one constant, it's that no matter how many features or long you spend fixing issues in a game, even if it's one of the biggest selling masterpieces ever...
*many things have to been cut to get it shipped *there will always be bugs *you will always have man-babies whining about all sorts of sh!t on forums. Having a separate QA is horrible and can cause all sorts of delays. Most people have absolutely no clue the effort devs put into a title and that just one bug can be the cause of divorces, ending of relationships, friendships, health issues and sad children. Get a life and enjoy the game you pitiful, pitiful whiners. If not... go make a multi-million dollar selling game and then get back to me about your opinion. any moron can write what they wish to be done... it's a pro that does it. |

As for WWI, I will be joining you very shortly, I ordered OFF today and I'm going to get Rise of flight , in the next month. What kind of rig are you using to run these WWI sims ? I just built a new AMD 3.0 ghz quad, I just have the intergrated Nvidia 750a sli right now but I'm looking to buy a nice card to link with the intergrated card. If you get a chance, tell me your rig and what graphics level your running on the game. I'd appreciate the info. DESODE |
holy crap l88bastard if we were all filthy stinking rich enough to have a gaming pc and 3 big screens we wouldn't be using ps3's would we.
The whole point of putting a game on console is to try to make it NOT a niche product (such as games for gaming pc's with wraparound screens are) but to get lots of people to play it I don't think join-in-progress is needed or that it would even be a wise addition. The last thing a 1 on 1 team battle needs is to suddenly turn into a 2-on-1 battle, or a 3-on-2. Not that it doesn't happen in real life, but it's pretty unfair to the unlucky player who suddenly gets double-teamed. But it should be possible to join the ROOM when the game is in progress. That's standard. Right now there can be a game in progress and you'd never know it cause quick match says there's none unless the match is waiting to start - which usually takes about a minute, compared to 10 minutes for the actual match. If they could just stop the matches from self-terminating after every round, and let people join the match lobby and wait for the next round, it would make a world of difference. what is the url of anton's forums, somebody should mention that the "own money" they spent on the patch will come back to them in the form of sales to people who aren't obligated to buy the game. If the patch fixes the MP then sales would jump probably 500 percent at least. |
Quote:
But you can keep the 1v1 battle a 1v1 battle if you just set the player limit to 2 ;). I'm quite sure the sales won't jump 500% after the patch. I don't think there's that many people that don't have the game, but are waiting for the patch to buy it ;). |
Quote:
there's not people sitting around thinking "I'm gonna get BOP after it's patched" but there are a lot of people hearing "don't buy BOP cause the MP sucks." Reputation sells a lot of copies. |

I will always enjoy the memories of violating you. Once you can take a break from that SWEET ASS GAMING RIG then send me a message and we can fly again. Who knows, I may use a Yak 3 next time. ;) I would join the Civil War if I had a rig like that. |
The WW1 Fokker D.III. pictures looks like "Red Baron II" or "Red Baron III", from the graphics.
I always prefered the Pfaltz myself. Out of all the simulators ever made, the "Red Baron" series was the best ever .... it would make a good console game, so long as they don't loose the realism somehow with the usual "dumbing down for kids" way some conversion to consoles go. Bad Company made COD 4 and COD WaW look seriously crap by comparison. COD 2 and COD 3 were the best versions and the multiplayer on both is superior to the later versions. The only gripe with Bad Comapny is that holding a knife makes a player bullet proof. Operation flashpoint has a few bugs and the first update patch arrived yesterday. Still loads to be fixed and the Code Masters were against releasing it before all the bugs were fixed. Now the game is in running repair. The days of one person writing a PC gaming classic alone, such as "X-Com Alien Unknown" are long gone. The likes of Jullian Gollop just don't exist anymore and it takes a team of programmers just to make something work with Windows. Not all computer or console games have bugs.... "Battle Stations Pacific" is bug free, so is "Left For Dead". Using the excuse that all games are full of bugs is like saying that because the Russian Voshkod motorcycle was a poorly built and unreliable piece of crap (I have a friend who owns one and it has never actually run in over 20 years) therefore it is OK to make all motorcycles like that. OK, so China seems to have fallen for that one. What is wrong with striving to make something as good as it possibly can be and showing up the competition?? |
Actually that looks like "Rise of Flight"
|
It's Over Flanders Fields. It was originaly a CFS 3 mod, but the the creators completely rewrote the code and released a stand-alone retail version. Definitely worth a look if you have a PC.
Cheers! AX |
The crashes on RB 2 and RB 3 are spectacular. Aircraft hit the ground and fragment, parts scattering with true physics and the engine block tumbling for a few hundred metres.
Players have the option of baling out of a plane without a parachute, as the Allied generals didn't believe in issuing them..... the mission / career ends when the player splats on the ground. Does "Over Flanders Field" have the sounds of the aircraft rigging creaking and straining during aerobatics?? Players had to learn to become atuned to their steeds to avoid mid air break ups. |

I can't wait for the patch. This and the Battlefield Bad Company 2 Beta on the 19th will make my month. BTW Battlefield Bad Company Beta only for ps3 and pc players. PC is in December and Ps3 players get it November 19th. Can't wait!

I alpha tested Frontlines fuels of war for THQ back in the start of that game. It had a very ruff start, but the Dev team stuck with it and fixed every issue and added a ton of features that the community asked for. It lost a lot of players but in my opinion once they were done fixing it,,, it was one of the best Battlefield style games to ever hit console. 50 players/ every vehicle you could imagine and drones to boot, zero lag, and proximity chat , I mean you name it they put it in there. Its a shame that there won't be a FFOW II because they had just about everything ironed out and the sequel could have been one of the best MP games to ever come to console. I know my hat will always come off to the FFOW's Dev team, they were some the best and it was a honor to work with them and see how they took care of their community despite publisher pressure. In my experience, the people that make games - and I'm talking about the people on "the frontlines" doing the actual coding, textures, modelling, sound, animation etc - are more motivated by a desire for appreciation of the final product than anything else. It's the guys in suits (that tend not to be gamers either) that ruin it for everyone. Unfortunately they are also the ones that a) get rich off everyone else's hard work and b) put up the funds to get the game to market. Very few studios can afford to say "it'll be done when it's done". But the ones that can afford that stance, often put out some great games (Rockstar North, iD...). |
Hey developers/publishers/whoever is responsible for this series, frankly I don't want to hear about sequels or PC versions at least for another year or two. I want to hear about fixing the version I bought or rest assured it will be the last Sturmovik I ever buy. I've had a lot of fun with the limited time I've been able to spend with this game, but I'm not made of money and I expect this product to be supported for more than two weeks after its launch date. Otherwise, what faith do I have in buying your next product, which will probably be bungled just as badly post-release?

Thanks for the info on your setup l88bastard. I'm not looking at running a 3 screen setup and I just want to be able to run OFF close to max settings at 1080. I just built this AMD Phenom II X4 940 black 3.0 ghz . It was cheap and I just built a new house ,so I didn't have a lot of extra cash, but I think it should do what I need it to do over the next 5 yrs. I just haven't figured out what kind of card to go with. I'm going to use SLI and I'm wondering if one card in SLI with the intergrated Nforce 750a will let me do what I want. I mean its only 1080. MW2 has been out for 36 hours. In that time, IW and Activision have created and released 2 patches for the game.....following feedback from the forums.
So, let's not hear any more nonsense that it takes Sony weeks to test and release patches - clearly it doesn't. It's plain (ignore the pun) incompetance from either 505 Games or the dev. Crazy |

He's not talking about the companies that published the games, he is talking about how long these patches were at sony before they recieved the O.K. I know Infinity is going to rec pref from sony, but there has to be more going on w/ BOP for it to be taking this long.

The problem with IL2 is that the publishers have something to do with the delay, in some way no one can explain.. |
Exactly, I'm pretty sure we are on the same page. My concerns aren't just for the patch alone, they are for the future of any type of serious flight simming on consoles. If these guys dont come through I cant see any other pubs taking a chance on a niche game such as BOP.
It isn't a bad game, but the lack of german cockpits (for some reason that is the only way I can truly enjoy flight simming) and any real challenge in single player is holding it just short of what it could be. Cheers! AX |

I think the CoD patches are fast tracked because Activision have a lot of eggs in the CoD basket and a lot of financial clout. They need CoD to succeed, especially after their CEO's flagrant disregard for his customers. Also, Sony has to accept partial responsibility for green lighting such an obviously buggy patch in the first place. BoP has never been as broken as CoD is right now. |

I'm not a COD fanboy, didn't even own cod 4. However, MW 2 is a blast ( I enjoy the occasional brainless shooter) and more importantly MW 2 doesn't have anything to do w/ BOP and it's current state either good or bad.
The community that actually cares about BOP (myself included) will not leave for ANY other game. I know we are just B.S'ing while we are waiting for an update, but lets try to not turn this into a pissing match about which game is better or buggier. I myself was wondering if anyone else finds BOP SP challenging enough. I only play SP on the most difficult serttings in Sim mode and just dont find it a chellenge unless there is a time limit and I just cant find the target(s). I'm not a great pilot or anything, but it just seems as though the AI cant hit the broad side of a barn. This is the biggest reason I want the patch, not just for the MP fixes. AX |

soon... maybe it is the $3.75 question on this forum... ________ Buy extreme vaporizer |
It is way too early to talk about a sequel. There are multiple problems with THIS game. Why would anyone want a sequel before this one is fixed? If you can fix this game, people will buy the sequel; if you do not fix it, there is little reason to believe the sequel will be better. I like the game and flying games in general, but the problems with it leave me frustrated playing it rather than having fun; if you read the posts about people waiting for the patch to play, it is obvious a lot of people are frustrated. I find it hard to believe a sequel will be better, if you cannot write a patch that fixes the flaws in this one (P51D5 turns and banks left when given full right rudder and ailerons). If other games can be patched even before they are released, why no patch 2 months after release? People will compare fairly or not, most have the idea if something is wrong fix it and do it now rather than later. Promises of a patch to come do nothing to relieve the frustrations of problems now. Issue a patch, and if that doesn't fix everything, issue another but don't keep promising sequel will be better. I want to play this game and if I am happy with it, I will be one of the first in line to order the next one.
|
Actually, it's not that rare that sequels are better than their predecessor. Issues of the first game are fixed in the second. It's happened before, it can happen again. Just hope this will be one of those times..
|
Quote:
And just to reinforce my point that everything needs testing whether it was related to the fix or not: MW2 v1.01 was to add the option to skip the Airport Massacre, and broke trophy support... MW2 v1.02 was to fix the trophy support, and broke online connectivity... MW2 v1.03 will be to fix connectivity. Wonder what it will break...? |
I like the single player in this game, but the multiplayer is the worst. I think since I got this game at launch, I probably have had the chance to play it in MP 10 times. Since then I get the usual BOP error finding the servers.
It seems as if they only have one server, and it is probably an old Pentium II. I bet their server is in Chernobyl. I had a friend ask if he should buy it and I told him no. I explained to him that the MP is broken and that I have not felt like even finishing the SP, because there was no reason to. Maybe this patch will make the game enjoyable one day. Until then, I will stick to MW2 and GOW2(which also had a problem initially with MP). Maybe I will buy a better gfx card for my core I7 pc and play some flight sims instead, possibly Storm of War: Battle of Britain. On sequels, I will wait months after it comes out if I even decide to chance buying from these guys again. |

what about the xbox 360 update?

I'm actually totally cool with another 3 weeks. I'm not going to whine because god knows that won't solve anything. |

Yes it would be nice, but honestly what is the point in having more cockpits when they are never used! Persides, I still find it nothing short of amazing that all the dials and controls in the cockpits that are in the game are fully working; that shocked me! Maybe its because I found this game on the off chance that I'm so impressed, or maybe its because I've played most of the flight sims available for the PC that I'm glad to see at least someone try to make a game like this on the consoles; but it seems to me that most people are unhappy with the first attempt ever made to put a flight sim on a console; I mean christ, you cant expect everything to be perfect. Yes it was rushed out, yes there are a few bugs and yes there are cockpits missing, but I mean come'on people, its playable, its enjoyable, the sounds are good, the graphics are the best I've seen on a flight game ever on a console, it actually lets you have control of flaps and such, give it a break will you! |

So I find it hard to believe your promises after 2 months of waiting. Knowing the games that you proposed in the past I found that BOP is simply a catcher who can not coillons ankle versions Pc .... So thank you for dreaming but it would have been better to propose a finite set that can compete with the older versions .... Sorry to post in French but I can plus round legs to know who to blame. This game is simply not worthy of the name of IL2. And in any case even if the update comes out one day (I was beginning to doubt it) you've broken my joy and enthusiasm towards this license .... Thx for the patch
We now know it IS coming for sure.
Anyway, IMHO BoP is already great out-of-the-box as it is. There are a few omissions, but I guess the patch will deal with those. I've played many PC sims in my days and enjoy BoP quite a bit. Remeber BoP has to take into account it is being developped for a console ... and just that fact made/makes it great for the PS3. This patch will make BoP stand out even more above and beyond any other PS3 offering that I know of. I've picked up HAWX from the cheap-o-bin and let me tell you all: if you want to complain ... at least BoP can be enjoyed as an arcade game as well as a (not-hardcore) sim ! I love everything about BoP, especially the mere fact that it exists and is one of a kind. Thx for the patch. |
A lot of people like myself want more cockpits for the realism. I still think BoP is really awesome though, even without axis cockpits. When we get them it will be even better! Actually I like to fly with the cockpit on, I used to do virtual cockpit but I got used to having the visual reference of my virtual pit.
Alas Dragon Age is stealing all of my flying time! I'l be back to MP soon though. (Maybe DA:O is a long game!) |

But in MP using a cockpit makes it way harder to aim... if there was a "cockpit only" option online, that would be better. Right now using a cockpit means having to get up close for the kill unless you hardly have to lead the target at all. |

so now its gonna be another 4 weeks to wait for an update!!!
i think this whole saga is bull***t they are just using stalling tatics if you ask me i mean come on MS wouldnt wait for the sony patch to be fixed before releasing there own patch and i dont think the publisher would wait either i mean all the flak they are getting over this patch they would be rushing the xbox version out just so all the xbox users could shout how much better it is with the patch and so buying themselfs time to fix the sony version so why are they holding back on the xbox version ?? i think becuse it aint coming thats why they are just stalling hoping ppl trade this white elephant in and move on to something else so they can focus on making the pc version and a money sucking sequel |

I hafta say, as a 360 owner, I'm a little concerned by the lack of any status on its patch. I agree that there's no reason for MS to hold up the patch on account of Sony -- in fact quite the opposite. But the only status we are hearing relates to the PS3 version, and that doesn't bode well IMHO.
C'mon somebody, prove me wrong please. |

ffs take your head out of your ass for a second and reread what i put i said they were stalling!! at no point did i say they were not releasing the patch so ppl wouldnt play the damn thing !! maybe before you jump on your high horse youmight want to read what ppl are posting properly  let me put it more simply so there is no confusion in what im saying they IMHO opion are stalling us in the hope that ppl get bored/tired of waiting and trade this game in and move on to somthing else they are not going to make any more money in making patches are they the damage has allready been done look at all the hardcore supporters of this game they have allready lost do you honestly think they are going to suddenly gain x amount of new sales by releasing a patch ??? no they wont so IMHO they are putting all there efforts into making a pc version and a sequel |
Still the best game in my collection, patch or no patch! Absolutely love it and still getiing lots of SIM games on line..........thanks Devs for at least giving WW2 Combat Flight SIM fans a damned good console version!

Guys the 360 patch will be delayed anyway due to major content updates for the LIVE dashboard. This November MS are adding a lot of extra stuff just for the dash so game patches have to take a backseat till after thats all done.
