Street Landings!?
I was just wondering, how many of you have tried landing in urban areas?
I've been successful landing in Berlin, with the FW190A5, and the Yaks along with La's in Stalingrad and Berlin. But it took me about 5-7 crashes just with the FW to get it right, and perfect. I even have some pics of the FW landed on the street. One of them is my wallpaper, but I don't have the ability to show any of them at the moment. :( So anyway, have any one of you succeeded at landing on the streets of Berlin, Stalingrad, or anywhere else urban? |
the town of Dover.
From the coast heading inland you will see a nice long road, its hard but can be landed on providing nobody is shooting at you. Also the bridge in the dover port. Though not as easy now with the joystick due to lack of brakes. Have been trying (well not for a while now) to land next to the brandenburg gate so i can get a nice pic :P |
I landed in Berlin with a P-47 once. lol. Harder than it looks, but I even managed to take off :)

Ive landed on the roads in Sicily, and Ive landed on the outskirts of Stalingrad, Tried Berlin main city but the streets were overhung by buidings jutting out making it impossible to land. Dover, I landed on the beachfront under the cliffs, the harbour walls, but not tried in the town yet.

I did that road through the park leading up to the Brandenburg gate too - didn't realise it was like a causeway until I was down and (even though it's a game) held my breath until I got to a stop!! More luck than judgement!

France :P landed their to

I've never found France..... :(

from over just head over the sea (towards france), as you get closer the map opens up and france becomes visible. Though hard to land on as you dont have any shadows in france for some reason so its hard to judge how low you are when landing. |
Bottom right of map, really short landing area cause it forces you to turn around.
In regards to updates/sequals/dlcs will there be an increase in playable areas? Also, does the existing DLC add a new area? |
existing DLC offers no new multiplayer areas, just 2 new planes and a few single player missions :)

I landed yesterday my A20-G Havok a bit too hard on a road in Dorset. I broke off the 2 rear landing wheels but my nose wheel was still on. Full throtle for another attemps and i actuall menged to A** land that bomber. i draged it across the ground and i diden't blew up. I stoped, looked for any damage and used all my WEP to get in tha air! I took off with only a 124MPH! that's the best i did so far. I also manged to land down a shot up ME who's engine stopped working and glided it down to earth.
So yeah, after 35 crashes or more, i finnaly can say that i'm an expert on Crash landings! LOL |
Would be so good if you could cause componant failures to practice landings and such like in FSX!
|
I have yet to try and land in the streets.. I need to put that on my "to do" list. However, I have landed on the pier in the port of Dover, as well as landed on the wall around the port (almost didn't get stopped before hitting a lighthouse though). Now, I guess I need to hit the streets..
A new mission.. |
Everytime my engine gets shot black I like to practice dead stick landings in combat conditions! The best part is you can usually watch the other team crash trying to take you out. I even got lucky on time and managed to get a kill as someone over shot my dead plane. They need an achievement for dead stick kills!!

Ok.. Now, I join club "Streets of Fire". I landed on the streets of Berlin..
I think they should figure out how to score unconventional kills. I actually get lots of un-official kills by scraping my enemy off my tail by making them crash. but there is no way to prove that, or score it. Since I don't do well behind the guns, I have crashed countless foe by out flying them. I have crashed I don't know how many enemy on my six into the cliff sides, into towers, building, and of course the ground. I take the low road on most occasions, in many cases, in double digit altitudes only to hear the guy on my six to burst into flames behind me. A kill is a kill, and it stops the bullets from zinging over my canopy.. hehheh.. |
i managed to land right next to the reichstag iv got a pic of it somewhere looks kinda kool
|
I've landed all over the place on maps, watched the tanks fire, taxied round army camps admiring the detail of the vehicles and equipment.... even down to an authentic Whermacht tank engine hoist.
I find landing far easier from the cockpit view for some reason. Perhaps 3rd person make me over compensate when I don't need to. The easiest plane to land is the PO-2 "Sewing Machiine" with the I-153 and I-16 due to size. The amount of unneccessary detail, just their for the hell of it, is amazing..... even the trees sway in the breeze. |

I've flown an I-16 below roof height down a villiage street after being seperated from the main dogfight and being double teamed by a pair of determined Me-163 "Power Egg" players. Once back in the main battle a Spitfire took out one of them and I was then able to deal quickly with the other. On the inverse of this was flying an Fw-190 A5 at just over 42,000 Feet to out ceiling a Bf-109 G6, which I more than succeeded at. The Bf-109 can't fly that high. If the flight model for the Fw-190 wasn't so screwed up in BOP I would have been able to deal with him on more equal terms. |
I have landed on streets in Sicily, Berlin, Stalingrad (but I haven't tried on the winter version for some reason yet), Dover and other towns in that area, etc.
One time I also managed to land on the docks in Dover's harbour. |
Several weeks ago I chased a guy that took it to a street fight. He flew down below the roofs along a street. I assume he was a huge star wars fan (star wars people will understand that statement). I followed him and stayed on his six down into the streets at light post level, but I did end up missing a turn on main street and ended up in someone's 2nd floor apartment... He won that one.. It was a cool moment though..

If you find streets a touch enclosed, you can always try the frozen river in a wintry Stalingrad - plenty room!!!
