Continuing with CLoD

One thing I do not quite understand, is why I see so many folks distressed over the recent announcement. Yes I understand that things have changed, BoS will be put out by a new team, albeit a team that consists of some members from the CLoD team, and some from the ROF team. And yes, using a different engine.

But still, Cliffs of Dover still exists in it's current incarnation. The final patch, was just released a couple of months ago. It would seem to me, for the enthusiast, there is a lot of fun to be had still with this title. I believe for many, it just became stable and playable with this final patch. Maybe I am reading some of the posts wrong, but it seems like there are many that the jist I get from what they are saying, is turn out the lights it is all over for CLoD.

I can say for me at least, I fully intend to get many hours of enjoyment out of CLoD, the stock campaign just got redone to something good, more campaigns have been coming out. And yes at the same time I look forward to seeing BoS put out by the new team when it is released, and am pleased to see at least another WWII sim on the horizon.

But at least for me, CLoD is far from dead on my hard drive.

Salute

I think the game is still worthwhile flying.

And its not like BATTLE OF STALINGRAD is going to be here soon. By my reading of the releases we're looking minimum 1.5 years from now.

Its dead, but the corpse will stay warm for about 2 years.
When BoS arrives, the ten people that are still playing CoD will probably drop it like a hot rock.

It's not dead, but the folks at the tiller were going where I wanted a sim to go. They are gone. I'll keep flying it. I like it's sense of place and time.

with no capability to be improved or new content to be added, IMHO it is pretty much sentenced to death.

too bad, it lokked promising

CLOD is great but it still has bugs, how can one create scenarios when AI aircraft keep barrell-rolling into the terrain ???

Do you know how stupid a sim looks when a defiant, being attacked from 6 high (????) decides to barrell-roll continuously until it hits the terrain !! ... even retard-reg would have spotted this bug. This is quite strange because the CLOD engine gives the player so many options for pilot / gunners etc.

A cow, when dead, still exists, and has more uses than when she was alive. CloD is dead and its carcass will be enjoyed by many for years to come.

I have yet to experience even one AI barrel role...do you recall what skill setting you used?

Agreed, the AI frequently ends up as a lawn dart when dog fighting at low levels. The devs opinion was that the AI was perfectly ok. To me this is just another indication of how much CloD was geared towards multi-player. I'm hoping BOS doesn't go the same way.

I'll still be playing CloD for a long time yet, but only because of the add ons that Desastersoft and Heinkill have turned out. Without these the single player would still be a joke.
