Well, the concept might be to a died in the wool flight simmer, it's different from MS Flight Simulator. Aimed at gamers although of course supports joystick etc. FMs are quite good and in the opinion of many better than MS FS. Its a new approach with the modern marketing idea of free to download (2 aircraft) plus paid for dlc and more maps to buy later.

I use it occasionally for a change of scenery (Hawaii).

Visually not much beyond FSX. No TrackIR. Joystick set up does not work at all well with my Saitek rig. IMO XXXX being polite at the moment. Hopefully they will unlock or add in the full equipment compatibility at some point? poor effort in relation to the sims comunity so far with this one. :(

gees I had no idea it was that bad. I like FSX, but mainly for the ad dons, if there is no support for TracKIR then I won't even bother.

Well u know, it's just some of our opinion. Check it out for yourself, it's free after all.

In your opinion, would MS consider paying me to play their "simulation"? :-D

Troll2k 04-06-2012 02:01 PM

I have been flying it since the day it came out.You get 2 airplanes(Icon 5 and a Stearman) and the main island of Hawaii.

There is at the moment a couple of paid downloadable planes and airports.

It appears to have incorporated some of the Flight Sim Economy into it.You can take on jobs like hauling freight or giving flying tours.

There is also aerocaches.Like Easter eggs planted around. They give you a clue and you have to find them.

You can lean out the side of your Stearman using the keyboard(like TIR) so I assume the modeling is there for 6 dof.I expect Microsoft to enable that in the future for a cost.

The radios are detailed and you can tune the channels but they do not work.I assume that at some point they will be enabled or you have to pay to enable them.

I have talked to a friend that used to fly the Stearman in real life and he said this one is the most accurate of any he has flown online.

I have not flown FSX so I can not speak for the scenery.I think the clouds and water are terrible.

I suspect that true fans of the game will spend hundreds of dollars on planes, airports, and scenery when all is said and done.

It is free and good enough that I will continue to fly it.I doubt however, that I will buy and upgrades or DLC.

The biggest problem for MS Flight I think is that they don't really know which group to target. Yes, it is accessible and easy to get into which is great for newcomers to the genre but it sorely lacks depth and fidelity in the areas needed to maintain interest. So who will fly this game -except for Troll2k-?

I have to say it's nice to see some new additions to the genre, they are always welcome and the added people that get interested in these types of games might even trickle down to games like CloD and RoF and God knows these games needs all the support they can get.

MSFT keeps changing their way of doing things, instead of fixing the problems with what they have already released. They are doomed to mediocrity as they persist in this fashion.
