AMD Bulldozer

I haven't been keeping up with the trends for a while now, but today I was curious about bulldozer. Went to one of my favourite reviewer sites and found this ...

4 GHz on air ... I want a Bulldozer CPU now :P

Lol with the i7 2600k and even the i5 2500k there are reports of 5GHz on air.

I could go out today and buy a pre overclocked I5 running @ 4.5 GHz (If I had any money! ;) )

Getting 4GHz on my i7 950 and could push to 4.2 if I wanted to risk higher temp in FSX (using Megahalems air cooler). CoD doesn't push it any where near as hard.

Mine's a scan.co.uk 3XS system (I couldn't be bothered to o/c myself this time)

But you're right in principle :)

i have a amd 1090T that i have had running 4.4ghz on air before now but that was just for some benchmarking , can run 4.0 ghz 24/7 but actually atm its running stock which is about 3.6 in turbo mode , for around £134 thats not a bad cpu .

need a better gfx card though as my 2 x ati 4890's seem to be struggling .

I have the 1055t AMD 2.8ghz running at 3.6ghz on not just Air but the crap cpu fan too that they supply in a bundle from Novatech lol and it cost £100!

One thing about AMD's they are very stable and the black editions are very overclockable..

Ive been toying with the idea to get the AM3+ Mobo that can use my existing CPU but also will take the bulldozer should i choose to upgrade...My MOBO now isnt even taking advantage of the 1600GSkill Ram i have as its only running at 1333 presently

I'm interested to see how Bulldozer performs. I was trying to wait for BD to come out, but the wait became unbearable.

The frequency of a CPU means little. Its all about the chipset design and how efficient it is. We'll see if AMD can match Intel over the coming months. :)

Hmm in not sure that will happen, or it might for a while but then Intel will release something to make them ahead again..

I think Intel have the edge slightly but AMD are very good value for money and have always been considerably cheaper

Bulldozer 8429 MHz - World Record :

http://www.guru3d.com/news/amd-fx-pr...-world-record/

Bulldozer have a Turbo mode, that maintain quiet cores unused and overclock used cores, it can do 4.2 GHz by itself.

The FX-8150 have quiet frequency of 3.6 GHz and a turbo frequency of 4.2 GHz, by default and on air.

And that is with 8 physical cores so any comparative with i7 have no sense.

Is true that the speed is not all and what is important is that core structure, but that Buldozer can overclock well dont mean that the core structure is slow.

We should wait and see but it looks good certainly. :)
