People in russia just seem to have no idea of marketing.

I'm sure there are quite a lot of people, especially new to this series or genre, who see those low quality, medieval screenshots, and decide not to buy it, because it really looks not 2007...2010, no way 2011.

These guys are gone then. No money from them.
They won't probably ever take a look at this again.

Conclusion: Holding back stuff is sth. for christmas, but not for serious business.

Ah, Oleg doesn't need the money, he has the new job. Then he really doesn't need to care about how the game sells.

In almost all period photos I've seen you don't see pilots with their goggles down. My feeling is that they obstructed vision and were used in the brief periods of combat only.
Maybe goggles were down mainly during combat when usually fewer planes would be taking pictures...

...or they put the goggles up to look better on the photos.

Anyway, since pilot issue has floated ( I hope developers are reading and can answer), rumor has it that pilot animation would reflect the PoV of the players one sees - so someone flying formation could see where the other pilot is looking at - could anyone in the know give us some info on the subject?

thanks

That's a pretty big generalization. Heard of viral advertising? Word of mouth and youtube alone will sell more copies of this game post release than any promo video you see before hand. Flight Sims have never been graphically center stage, if you're looking for graphics to sell you, there are plenty of acade sims that can satisfy those needs. They'll be onto something else in a few weeks any way. Some IL-2 guys have been playing and continue to play since day 1.

It's not all about blockbuster day 1 sales, it's about the bigger picture.

I'd also like to see your comparison for graphical quality calling these shots medevil...that's personal opinion and therefore doesn't apply to everybody.

I just can't understand you guys. You're looking at the most precise aircraft models ever produced with virtually every aspect reproduced in minute detail and you call them medieval? What's the big deal with AA anyway...a few lines are not quite as crisp as they could be...so what?

I agree that the highest quality images would have been better for inclusion in marketing material but I think anyone with the slightest interest in combat sims will be drawn to these images and recognise the great leap forward they represent.

The problem here is that Oleg has been asked for material at very short notice due to that jerk leaking the information. I'm sure this isn't the way things were planned. All the same, you've got to be a very shallow nerdy type to be completely switched off by a a few jagged lines.

+1

The UK might be greener than where I live, but ground textures look more cartoonish than any comic Ive seen. Way too saturated. Its been hurting my eyes for several years now, I guess it wont get fixed anymore :(

Fortunately the planes and the water look good :) and probably adjusting color saturation slider in the video drivers will make it bearable.

And how do you know this is how it's going to look in the final release?

Way to post constructive criticism. It's posts like these that drive the devs away. Is that what you're trying to achieve?

I think the more people should realize that if you try to photograph real world landscape att noon from altitude you get ugly colors.

Like in the screenshots

Thats why nobody does it and you never see photos looking like the screenshots.

People want "photorealism", but what we get is "real world realism", which isn't always as nice as photo

Look at the (very few) shots taken at sunset/sunrise. They look mych better colour wise.

Just a thought

Looking really much forward to this, after i get a new PC that is :-)
