By using the direct connect link, restarting the game takes less than 30 seconds from exiting the game to reconnected and spawned in a plane. I don't think most of us get annoyed by having to wait 30 seconds and a couple mouse clicks after an hour sortie. At least I hope not. ;)

haha That isnt the point... On your server you have full realism on and seems to be the only sever populated. 40mins isnt long enough to spot a plane or anything for that matter.. Most of the time I get up in the air.. fly around hoping to find a target to shoot at.. realise im chasing disappearing dots.. and boom crash. Looks like to me also that yeah most people are annoyed by this and the main reason people arent playing multiplayer. And how can you even say that restarting is an option to 'alleviate' the CTD's.. this is just a manual way to do a crash basically. the 30 seconds more is the least of the problem.

Sorak,

I usually spot an enemy AC before I take off on most occasions, let alone fly around looking for them. If you read the briefing, note where the spawning airfields are, read the radar messages etc., if you're taking more than 10-15 minutes to spot a contact (10-15 minutes happens to be around the time it takes to get some alt and go across the channel) then you need some glasses :). Btw, ghost dots don't show up on radar. So I usually only go after radar call outs to avoid them. Also, most people use coms for teamwork, spotting enemy etc. If you read the chat messages, you'll notice the screen is usually filled with deaths on both sides, constantly scrolling. This should be a huge hint that many people are finding the enemy on a regular basis ;)

Noone is saying the game is working great. Quite the opposite. It's just for many of us, I guess with high end systems, that we've tweaked to get the most out of IL2COD, it's a very enjoyable experience even in it's buggy state. And because of the feeling of flight, the GFX, the immersion of flying around the huge channel map, it's quite fun.

Speak for yourself. Ive got a nice "high end" system and haven't even bothered to fire the game up in a loooooooooooooooooooooooooooong time.
Until its working in single player, its just dead in the water.

1946 is sweet to smooth the patch abstinence... Flew an online mission yesterday evening on Uk Dedicated 1 in a Ju-88 with torpedoes. After getting in under heavy aaa off the North African coast I got a good hit on a British battleship, on the way back I got badly shot up by a pair P-40:s but my trusty gunners amazingly managed to get both of them - but my plane really was in bad shape, leaking all kinds of fluids and one aileron shot off. My wife came in disturbing me right then so limping home to my "Sicily" airbase I realize the was another P-40 stalking my base! Arghh! In the confusion I had flown to Malta and the British base :) Doing a 180 turn towards my own base I have to reduce power as the overheating was bad, the only gunner alive is the belly gunner so I have to do some dolphin flying for him to get a number of bursts at the chasing P-40... He starts smoking after a while and just as I realized that my only gunner hero was out of ammo he stalls at low altitude and spins into the med. I gain some altitude as the gasoline has been leaking for 15 minutes and the engines die just as I pass the Sicily coast line... Manage a perfect three pointer and my smoking plane shrieks to a stop...

Does it get better than that?

I was going to get this while I wait, but I wanted to know what type of planes you fight against and are there ground targets? Can someone please answer this because I cannot find this information anywhere. Also, is this a beta and how much of it is complete percentage wise? Thankyou!!

Gave up and uninstalled CoD, tired of the crashing and stutters and just all round poor software. Flying this now. Its a beta and runs smoooooth and no crashes and looks great. And it has antialiasing too! Sound is awesome. I'll practice my dogfighting with this and check back in a year or two to see if CoD has caught up.
