Love the game, this is the game Mark Of Chaos should have been. Only small gripe i have is that it lacks grit and character. 9/10 A classic.

Great game!

The A.I. in the game is not bad.
I love the way it targets your routed/damaged units for destruction, and whoa be the player that has a routed hero hanging out in the open.
I also like the way that you have to keep your mounted knights back a bit so they don't go impetuously crashing to their doom into the woods after an orc unit.
I give it 9 out of 10 :)

Excellent game. I used to play Fantasy General to death and now this game gives me what I have been aching for.

I was surprised to see the AI making smart moves and how little loading there is. Furthermore, the game is a nice challenge, something to sink my teeth in. It's technically sound as well. What I am missing at the moment is simply more maps. And a techtree for the Elves on the site ;)

What's holding the game back is that it looks like another Warcraft/Warhammer clone and gamesites do not go deep with it. Personally, I like Orcs and Elves battling it out, but that's me. Also, I think in the age of Halo's and generic racegames, old school turnbased doesnt get the attention it deserves.

I believe that if you call yourself oldschool, this game is a must-have.

I personally miss a campaign map as the Total War series,
with the old school gameplay and a quest sistem will be really a revolution in the strategy games

Feral Knight 01-30-2008 08:48 AM

Nah I don't miss it. That would make it too commercial :P

Besides, a campaign map like Total War doesn't make a good game, just look at Empire Earth 3...

Funny, because I was just thinking how great it was that I didn't have to bother with a Total War-style campaign map. I love how Fantasy Wars focuses directly on the tactical combat.

asadexes 01-30-2008 01:46 PM

Yes but it would be great to take decision about were to fight enemies and about the composition of the forces.

I agree that a campaign map would be a nice addition. But not like the one in Total War. Rather like the map in "Shadow of the Horned Rat" - you make the decision between options A, B and sometimes C, and the campaign continues depending on your choice. You also would get different units, quests and so on... yes, it would triple the effort needed to create a campaign, but it would be so nice... :)

i prefer to be free to accept or not casual quests only with a customizable hero, to develop my troops and cityes, to choose who and were to attack in a totally free world domination campaign.

Hint about branching missions... Guess what is coming in the sequel. :-))
