The "Fairey Battle" light bomber sounds more like a punch up in a gay bar.

Wow the poor idiot that got shot down by that thing......

Couldnt it have been decent at ground attack? With that huge ass turret for defense?

A Sergeant Rear Gunner shot down a German Bf-109 D over the French - German border during the 1939 "Phoney War" period about 6 months before the Blitz Kreig started.

The Fairey Battle was the RAFs first all metal aircraft, was the first aircraft to fly with the Rolls Royce Merlin engine (unsupercharged) and was the first RAF aircraft to carry a 0.50" Calibre HMG (right wing mounted). It also had its bomb bays in the wings.

Top speed was 247 MPH.

Number still flying today is one example in Canada.

Now that is for a whole other thread.;) I'd actually have to think about the question for a bit, but off hand I'd say the phantom is a pretty sweet looking plane.

....and hey, it's got a nice name too!

The F4 Phantom is sweet looking? You ever seen one in person? In Vietnam it was known as "Big Ugly", the plane that "had it's aerodynamics decided by committee" and "Proof that with big enough engines a brick can fly" LoL. Technically the F4 is the "Phantom 2". The original Phantom entered service in 1947 and was the first jet to operate from US carriers. I'm certainly not trying to bash a great plane's war record, but imho, good looking the F4 aint.
